OK with the L&D gone from official rules (but never from our hearts!) what are the best ways to keep using them?

I see a few options

IG or Inquisition - with tons of options from crazy units and IG doctrines (at least till GW nerfs them) this seems the easiest.  Plus it's the closest to WYSIWYG.  I think =I= with IG troops and Kroot mercs (they're stil legal right?) is the best way to go for mutants and heretics.

Witchhunters - Witchhunters have their frenzied mobs from WD, optional IG or marine allies and I think they can take Kroot too.  Another good option.

Orks - Cultists as grots, mutants as orks, ork vehicles as civilian vehicles, it could work but you'd basically have to start a new army from scratch.

Bugs - Cultists and mutants as gaunts, warriors as big mutants, tyrants as demons, psykers as zoatntropes... This might be the most appropriate list but it strays the farthest from WYSIWYG

Thoughts?

Did you notice that they are absolutley legal for the 'Ard Boyz Tournaments that just popped up? Chaos uses the 4th edition (soon to be defunct) codex for the 1st round, but the 5th edition codex for the 2nd and 3rd rounds. LatD uses the 4th edition codex throughout.

I am just starting my army. I'll be getting the army together for this tournament but build it up into a Vraksian army during Apocolyse. With any luck, by the time I tire of Apocolypse, LatD will be back in full force.  My best mutants will become the workers rabble for Vraks or Conscripts for regular IG.

Ogryn's for big mutants....

But it would all be just a modeling project. What made the LATD so fun were the rules....

That being said, I think Witch Hunters with (space marines (chaos space marine) allies would be one way to go.

Really? The rules didn't do much for me, it was too dependent on the CSMs. I'd prefer more of a cult/guerilla army than marines with mutants.

But yeah, I miss them.

Well, I'm obviously raging against the dying of the light for LatD. But if they're gone and the Daemon codex is daemon-only, I'll look to the new Ork codex. I can probably make it work with yet more time and money, although it's not quite how I envisioned the army. I have it easier than most LatD players, as my army is a Genestealer Cult and is a "counts as" in the first place. It seems a lot sillier to have an army with Chaos imagery everywhere and then count them as Orks or Tyranids or something.

I still think it's ironic GW is suggesting LatD players use "counts as" when the LatD list is the best "counts as" list in the game. I guess we'll all be better off when everything "counts as" SMs.
