Like it or not, Teh Space Marinezzz! will remain GW's most popular and well supported army.

Obviously Space Wolves are on the list though not for a while.  And there are the rumors of a new codex (kiss your options goodbye).  Plastic drop pods are just about the only product we're waiting on.

So what else can GW do with them?

My modest suggestion is Codex Space Marine Companies.  Rules for scout companies (no tanks, no power armor but various commando options), Vet/Termi Companies (not just for Deathwing any more), fallen companies (the 13th, the Legion of the Damned), and recon companies (speeders and bikes).

it would be nice to see GW explore this, perhaps as an update to the Index Astartes series that was done in 3rd ed. Those were some great little articles, and gave ways for people to play their favorite chapter.

Frankly, a lot of what you suggest, Alex, are changes to the FOC, so they could use Apocalypse as a starting off point.

Guinness: for those who are men of the cloth and football fans, but not necessarily in that order.

I think the lesson here is the best way to enjoy GW's games is to not use any of their rules.--Crimson Devil

I'd buy a scout company. Heck, I've probably got a hundred of the guys already. Add some bikes and an orbital strike or two, and viola!

In fact, I played a game with just scouts; they had to get to a certain point on the map and set up a locator beacon for the Drop Pods or somesuch. I think I won.

I second (third?) the Scout Company.  Termies I can do without, but I loves me some Scouts.

The only wish I have is that termies get to keep two heavy weapons because termies are overcosted at 40 points otherwise.

Drop em to 30 points and give them one heavy weapon and I wont feel so bad.

But 40 points....sheesh. Nope, theyre not not worth it when only one heavy can be taken.

My Space Marine wish list....well, where to begin!

1) Scale the buggers right, GW can do it with Ogryns etc, why not Marines.....at the moment the only Giant thing about them are the guns!

2) Gimme a Strike Cruiser ( well, its a wish list isn't it! )

3) Plastic Grey Knights.....

4) Not quite Marines, but sometimes a Marines best friend...gimme more and better Inquisitors!

5) Remodel Azreal Grand Master of the Dark Angels....the current model is sh*t

6) Remodel the Head Librarian as well!

7) Give me a Bilial figure, so I can avoid paying through the nose for special one offs from Micro Art Studios

Thats a good start!

3) Plastic Grey Knights.....

You don't worry about less detail for those models? Is this true or just a myth?

And the humpbacks! I'm guessing those who become Terminators don't go back to being regular marines.

Yay for the scale!

Other than that, I feel the Space Marines are pretty completed right now. I mean they have a lot of stuff in plastic and
it's not that the space marines shine with their variety of statlines.

I would rather take a slight hit on detail to be able to field a varied GK force. I've just finished converting a GK Terminator so I could inject a little character and show a face....it took me hours.....plus those minis are not cheap, so if you screw up you are throwing money down the drain!

On that note how about all of the historical armors in one set? They could call them vets, they could call them anything but I want them!

And an all beakie squad too!

Oh and a scout Hum-V.

I want them to stop supporting space marines so damn much.
That's what I freakin' want.
Aside from that? Pre Heresy marines would be fun.

Seconded.  I would buy that.  Actually, if I ever start getting into 40k again, I plan to represent all of the armors somewhere in my army.  I also want a few squads of Rogue Trader beakies, but that's more of something for eBay to handle rather than GW.

Considering how long it took for Eldar to get their waveserpent, it doesn't really surprise me that GW hasn't released a plastic drop pod... that's really the only thing on the wish list worth mentioning.

I concur with others; GW should put a little more love into other races in the 40k universe. Necrons could use a little variety, and Dark Eldar could do with a good, unified resculpt and infusion of ideas.

Now that the Vindicator is once again being released, everything I can remember being mentioned (sans drop pods) is covered. Perhaps actual kill team gear would be in order... that might be fun. But it's all kinda blase right now.

1. Plastic Drop Pod
2. Plastic Armour Marks sprue
3. Plastic Thunderhawk Gunship
4. Legion of the Damned (I don't give a fig for the other Cursed Founding chapters)
5. I would have said reserve/scout/vet company rules, but those seem most appropriate in Apocalypse, where they can already be fielded, anyway.
6. A competitive army list that rewards fluffy units (ten-man squads, basically).

I've never understood why space marines operate in ten man units. In modern warfare, I'm pretty sure teams are usaully around 4 guys or so.
Ten is a nice number for a box, but I think combat squads are probably more likely as a configuration.

US army squads are 9-10, I believe.

huh!
That i didn't know.
Special forces and royal marines apparently use lower numbers, or at least, seperate into smaller units once a firefight breaks out.
According to my brother anyway.

So are there just no such things as scout bikers anymore, or are they going to get redone eventually?  They could also recut the land speeder sprue to make it fit better and throw in a sprue for tornados and typhoons while they're at it.

Similar, but not too close to combat squads.
