YOU WON'T BE READING THIS IN THE CAPITALIST RUNNING DOG MEDIA!

China Daily Nov 13, 2007
‘Democracy’, deceptive garment of Dalai LamaQuote: “What truly happened in Tibet before 1959 when it was ruled by the Dalai Lama who claimed democracy was his ideal? Before 1959, lands and people were fiefdoms of institutions of Tibetan local governments, monasteries and nobles, who sustained the Tibetan feudal serfdom as the three major estate holders… Serfs and slaves, who accounted for 95 percent of the population of Tibet, had no basic human rights or freedom… With spiritual enslavement and promise of happiness in the next life, the privileged group of monks and nobles deprived serfs of not only their personal freedom and property, but also of their spiritual freedom… In contrast with such a reality, the empty talk of democracy by the Dalai Lama and his international supporters is merely a cheap garment, which they use to fool the public.”

So, we're supposed to listen to the words of a newspaper in a country whose communist government that is notorious for slapping down anyone or anything that dares speak out against it openly?

Or was your post "tongue in cheek?"

You could go by Gamespy, or like me, you could remember it from playing in an actual arcade when it came out. That's right, arcades aren't just myths, they used to exist.

DDR is more popular than you might want to believe. And the cool Asians will always play those driving games I suck at.

I don't recall anyone saying DDR was not popular. I know that it is insanely popular overseas and has a good following in North America as well. Still doesn't change that the arcade scene is radically different now compared to when Bad Dudes came out. The number of arcades is quite a bit smaller and the ones that are around tend to have less machines and more event games, like DDR or the sit down linked racers.

Also, just becuase it is popular doesn't make it good. DDR is a horrible game and only truly horrible people would play it. Puppy eaters, baby rapers, ect, ect. Just awful.

Hey Ahtman. How many dudes would play "Duke-Nuke-em" if the arcades could support it? I would not have as much money for gaming if any Arcades did that! lol

ha! I have to admit that nerds and their women DDRing is a far cry from the days of yore when I had to decide between slurpies and more quarters at the 7-11.

Ahhh Bad Dudes...I remember it well. It was all about low kicking and getting the nunchucks.

Arcades full of side scrolling beat'um ups were the best. I have no idea how much money I pumped into Bad Dudes, Double Dragon, Final Fight, Warriors of Fate, X-Men, Dungeons and Dragons: Shadows Over Mysteria, and Aliens vs. Predator. All such good games that now only seem to exist on MAME.

Best strictly side-scroller: I really did like Bad Dudes vs Dragon-Ninja, although RoboCop and Rolling Thunder get honourable mentions.

Best more-or-less side-scroller: Final Fight, hands down. One of the best games ever, IMO. I think it was one of the first of this type (obv Double Dragon was older but that game blew huge chunks), and inspired the side-scrolling-plus-up-and-down-the-screen genre which included some real gems like X-Men (the huge double-wide six player version was my favourite )

I was lucky enough to see the Dalai Lama in NYC in October.

VERY interesting man, and surprisingly humorous. If only everyone could be that funny.

And, you know, good in other ways too.

From what I understand, the truth about the Lama is that he's a permanent fixture of the DC cocktail party circuit.

If you're having a cocktail party, you can invite the dude and he'll show up. He gets to pretend to be a big deal, and everyone shows up to your party. It goes something like this:

"Yeah, I'm having a cocktail party on Tuesday. A few guys from the gun lobby are going. So is the chair of the HELP committee. Oh, and the new undersecretary of education is going to make an appearance."

"Is Lama gonna' be there?"

"Lama? Most def!"

"Oh man--I'm there."

"The last known instance of common sense happened at a GT. A player tried to use the 'common sense' argument vs. Mauleed to justify his turbo-boosted bikes getting a saving throw vs. Psycannons. The player's resulting psychic death scream erased common sense from the minds of 40k players everywhere. " - Ozymandias
