Would it be possible to cast it in transparent/transluscent resin so you can see through the windshield?

Brother Bartius - Thanks! I think you'll be even more suprised when its finished. I've still got a couple of tricks in store.

Lemmingspawn - Thanks! My dad and I took turns holding the head on the body last night and just looking at how it completes the model. It looks really cool!

Flachzange - Thanks for the comments!

Sok - Yeah forgeworld had a cool idea with their "Just buy a titan and cut its head off" objective in the apocalypse book so I decided if we could get the head to resin we'd cast up some extras. You'll see in the photos there are 5 heads. The one on the far right was a pulled out of the mold a little early so it warped abit (as well as caving-in in a couple of spots) so I've already got an objective picked out.

The_Blackadder - Thanks! Legoburner asked me to write an article on casting for the new system (since i'm basically there already) so it will be put to good use.

CrimsonFist - Great minds think a like! I had some old micro mark crystal clear resin sitting around and tried pouring some into the mold. After waiting almost 6 hours for the stuff to dry (an estimated 90 minute dry time BTW) I went ahead and pulled the head out of the mold. It was a goopy sticky mess. But it finally harded (24hrs later) so it will become another objective.

Develain - Thanks! BTW I'm loving your thousand sons thread. I'm deffinatly going to be stealing some of your ideas and colors for my biggerized thousand sons.

NICE! Great progress Foda. Is it the shadows of is the head not quite flush on the jaw on the RHS? Also, I was thinking, whilst it saves time to resin all the heads, maybe a bit of extra work individually on them is a good idea, to provide some originality to each titan.

Excellent work as always Foda. I for one am really, really looking forward to an article on casting, as I'm looking to break into that aspect of modeling too. I've gotten my hands on the pump equipment (I work with vacuum systems in my lab all the time, hooray second-hand spare parts) but I'm still trying to find the right "chamber" of sorts.

Can't wait to see these puppies fully assembled!

DaMaGe - Actually its not as bad as it looks. There's a little slop between the peg on the nose and the slot on the plate. This allows the head to fit on loosly which decreases the number of paint touch ups. There woun't be much of a gap when I get the head painted as the paint will add some thickness to the model.

Teek - Thanks! The hardest part about the "chamber" is finding a table to use. I'll have to see if I can get the name of the rubber I used for the floor in mine. The glass is probably the easiest part to find (a decent one anyway). Just look for bell jars (which I'm sure you have at a lab) or even cheap cake stands.

Any plans for further lights or sounds? Seems like there may be room in the cockpit for some cool lighting effects with some LED's.

Azmodai - I pointed it out the other day and with the 5 titans I have 10,300 points of painted guard.

Phoenix - Yeah there a plans for lights all over. For the cockpit we've gotta finish the pilots first before moving on, as they can take up a bunch of room. I picked up a sentinel driver as well as the forgeworld standing titan crew to see if they can be put together anyway.

I just found this thread. Really impressive. I would like to have the time to try something like this but as it is I feed the FW machine to have my titans.

As a gesture of respect and appreciation for the ambition of this project, and for the quality of the execution, I think the Machina Opus symbol can be bestowed by Mars.

I can send you the little one that come with FW titans and can fit on the side of a rhino door, and the big ones that FW sells separately. From there you could probably cast more.

Thanks Fabricator-General I'm sure I'll do the machine cult proud with these beauties and my mechanicus army (which I've started drawing plans for).

Since the head, cover, and nose are done its time to flesh out the cockpit. You can't have a titan without drivers after all.
Fist up was scratch building the moderati's chairs.

Here are some pics of the detailed up princeps chair and the moderati chairs inside the "tub"

Nah you guys are wrong! Genius like this just lives to inspire us common peeps into building our own and improving our skills!

where would we be if we just gave up ? Azmodai you wouldn't have that warhound and Sleazy your Reaver would just be a "What if!!!"

Sure we might never be as great as this but that shouldnt stop us from being good!

Three cheers for Titans!

Look everyone. I found something wrong. We have hope for our own projects to have meaning.

Ha! Your excuse for a Titan battlegroup has so much detail that the crew have no access! Ha!

You need the princeps throne to be swivelling, set up to look like it can swivel 90 degrees. I think it is a little too wide to do that. Then the moderati can clamber through past the princeps chair, over their own into their chairs. The princeps follows rotating the chair behind him. You cant get out in a hurry, but ergonomics is not one of the Imperium's priorities.

thealternative is to model and access hatch on the side of the head in front of the princeps chair.

Nothing to add, just a quick question.

Where do you get your plasticard? Do you buy it online or at a FLGS?

Also, let me add my praise to the choir. Not only is this one of the most impressive projects I've ever seen, it is also one of the best modelling blogs ever in regards to not only showing the finished product but what goes into it.

Cypher037 - Thanks!

sleazy - Don't give up I post these pics to give y'all ideas on how to clean out your bits boxes and build cool titans!

Azmodai - LOL, if you want to lazily build an interior buy an airplane or helicopter kit with an interior and then modify it to fit your titan's head.

f74 - Thanks! I'm glad I can inspire people just like some of the old dakkaites inspired me.

Orlanth - Not quite. The princeps chair is pushed to the side so that the forgeworld titan crew on foot can just walk sideways by. The moderati (since they're less important) have to climb over their chairs.

Sgt_Scruffy - There was a chain of craft stores called Michaels that closed down about 10 years ago and they put all their plasticard on 90% clearance so we cleaned out every one in north central Texas (about 6 shops). We're still using some of the 1/2 rounds and stuff from that purchase but the bulk plasticard I get it all at my FLGS. Thanks for the compliment!

sleazy - With forgeworlds new totally broken rules for the reaver I would indeed fear the beastie! I'd also fear the pus coming out of f74's titan if I ever actually got the shields off!

Hmm, so the chair does move. It must be the camera angle, it doesnt look like the crew can get in, the round 'things' and other protrusions on the wall seem to get in the way too much.

I can't take a picture showing you, because the chairs are now in a mold box but we will show you after we pull some copies.
Don't worry though, because the back door is resin, and can't open, so according to assumptions, no one can get in.
Remember the top of the head pivots from the back like a fighter plane, so they could crawl in that way if they had too.
There is a limit to how deep we will go. It can never ALL be to perfect scale because of plastic versus steel thickness, etc.

Sure, but when you do work this good critique raises to the next level too, not to complain, but because you can.

With anyone else, it would be picky to comment on the ergonomics of titan cockpits. So my comments are in a very real way a complement.

I did wonder if the canopy was hinged, but unless the head tilts forward it doesnt look like it will work.

We like comments, both good and bad, because it helps all of us in the group to get better. I’m a big boy, and welcome constructive criticism. Lately, however, it seems like you just flat don’t like this model… If that is the case, why do you follow the thread? I can’t really tell where you are coming from, because I haven’t seen any of your models to use as a point of reference. Please advise.
