Continuing on with the fiends for some reason I've decided to use tape to smooth the transition from the skin to the skeleton. Stuck on what to use for a head for a while I decided to go with gems, mostly the hood will drape over it anyway and I'll probably just keep them black but make them glossy.

I've started twisting wire for the tentacles, though by the looks of it I'll want to make them first then attach them before adding the outer layer to these.

i am not too sold on the use of tape for modeling materials... after some time it might come off...but if the whole structure is covered in sculpting mass then i think it wont be much of a problem? also i think those gems coulod look pretty well if you keep their surface true... then some nice wierd highlights when all is done could make these fiends really spooky...

so this means you then pin the tentacles after making them? probably a wise move so that you can get the most in the detailmaking then!

Something like that, the gems get the hood over them and I suppose the tentacles go over the tape but under the robes. :/

Learning as I go with this.

i second the proposal of Vik. keep the gems as they are it would look wicked. and if it looks rubbish you can always paint them black

oh...i thought the gems should be painted... no unpainted stuff on the table... natural stuff always looks out of place with painted stuff...

but all those bevels on the gems would look badass painted and then drybrushed nevertheless...

They will be painted, though not sure if as gems at the moment. Though thanks to Eldar I should be able to paint them alright. One tank has something like 60-70 gems on it.

Maybe OSL or keep them dark under the hood to try and make it slightly ominous. I suppose I could leave them without hoods. Another thought I had is the gems themselves actually fit in since greed should have something to do with Slaanesh, making them like a sort of lure. Unintentional though cause I was more after them for their shape to hold the hood, then was going to maybe file down the front to give them a sort of Shadowseer look.

you should definatly do hoods...everything looks better with hoods...and rivets of course...but that goes without saying^^

Now I want to fit rivets into it somewhere.

lol... that´s what is needed... the league still needs some choasy (perverted) aspect of rivetmaking LOL...

the more i think of it i don´t see it as a joke anymore...do it! slaasnesh want´s you to do it!!!

...The crystal heads are cool but i fear they are too large and might have a cartoony effect, if that's what you're going for cool but if you want it to look like the picture I would try to get it thinner. You can get some small ones at any craft-jewellery store. If it were me I would try to make things tapering thin and tall.

...yeah it's better to make the tentacles separate and have them cure before you attach, assuming that the final step will be a cloak covering everything. Just try to find a quick and easy way to make those tentacles....

...and making that cloak will be hard, but not crazy hard. Make sure you use greenstuff or even get grey stuff if you can it's better for stuff like that. You're going to have to roll out a single huge sheet of it. Don't use tape underneath. whether you use wire, clay, sculpey, take the time to make sure that the shape under the cloak will be the shape of the final form you want the figure to take, and it will save you time and frustration in the end. That way you just drape it over everything and it comes out the right shape

hope this helps!

Definitely helps, don't worry the tape may as well be part of the skeleton it'll be built on then the tentacles and cloak will go over that.

I've decided it's probably easier if I work on them one at a time rather than as a production line sort of thing. So far the tentacles are attached to the sprue skeleton through the tape with a tiny bit of GS to add structural support. It's cured at the moment of these pictures meaning I'll add to the structural support with more GS before adding on the cloak, but these are firmly attached at the moment.

I may fix up the tentacles a little, though I'm also contemplating putting a claw on the end of each of them.

the pose of these tentacles i can live with...but i hope you have planned to add details to them galore... as for now they look too thick... by the way... would mechanic tentacles also work with a slaanesh army?

I suppose mechanical ones would as well, at least adding variety to it. For these I'm thinking I need to smooth them out, but after the robe goes on and I get a better look at it I'm thinking maybe a few rings and bracelets.

that design is somehow really doing some crazy things... they even gave me ideas for future uses......disturbing as i am a loyalists modeler....and it seems i get now tempted by chaos...ohoh...

No scale shot this time, forgot I was going to do it the whole way through.

Fleshed it out to mostly the shape it'll be, but made it smooth in case the cloak misses some spots when it is draped over it. I've also thought of simplifying the design for the later ones by having the tentacles as bass wires, though I'd be able to fit more tentacles in easier I'd still be keeping it to six per fiend. The main difference is that they'd look more mechanical though likely would have less potability and more likely to just be sort of trailing behind it on the ground.

well... you certainly worked on that one more...tho it is still a long way to actually comment in quality about it... i have no idea how even i would begin to get a cloak all over that one...but therein lies the true suspense i think

Slowly getting there now, the gem created the exact shape I was after for the hood. So a bit of luck there I suppose.
I also like how the light reflected off the gem in this first picture.

Next I think I'll try to work on the tentacles a little then finish it up. As a break from building I'll probably paint it after that.

the cloak really helped carrying the look... yet i still think the tentacles are a bit too beefy...maybe you add a thinner tip on each when you add the details...

the head and cloak is looking great! but I would do something about those tentacles... it would probably look a lot better if you just had more of them, covering up and coiling around the base of the cloak. did you make them by rolling them out with wire? getting a round and tapered shape is just impossible trying to do it with your fingers... also not sure if people mentioned it but it helps to wear some vinyl gloves when working with greenstuff.

Indeed I did do them with wire though I probably could have done them better, all part of the learning process I suppose. As for the amount maybe I'll add in more to the later ones I wanted to try and keept it to a multiple of 6 to fit it in with Slaanesh a little subtly there.

Worked on the tips of them a bit, hopefully got them to look a little better, though some of them I like a little more than the others. The hardest part of them was probably making sure that they blended in with the existing tentacles as well as shaping them a bit with my fingers while leaving as much of an impact on them as possible by constantly keeping my fingers wet with water. Though some of them show finger prints a touch I think it was subtle enough to give the appearance of some sort of fancy skin texture.

Shame the bracelet on the middle tentacle doesn't really show too much of its detail in these, I gave it a similar pattern to the Daemonette's clothing.

In the future though I think I'll try to keep them more on the base as after narrowing the ends a bit they're starting to stretch out a fair bit. At the moment I'm not sure if I should add the suction caps or not to them, they sort of seem fine to me without them.

Oh yeah for sure. the first picture you posted a few pages back looked like a lump of poo but now it looks like a real cloak! that's not easy. I would have to do it myself to say how exactly but a general rule with greenstuff is that it's a lot easier to work when its 'half-cured' and not fresh just after you mixed it.

Yeah they look a lot better now, the new coils distract well from any irregularities in the shape.

Like I said I would grab some cheap vinyl gloves. Greenstuff is not like clay, it's an epoxy so its not something you want to eat or absorb in the skin over the long term. It's not the texture that is the biggest deal.

I would experiment more before you do suction cups on something else. Its hard to do now because you have the other tentacles twisting around them.

I guess I can experiment on the old fiends I gave up on before, the ones that look like crap.

Didn't know there was a reason to need gloves other than the finger prints but I'll look into getting some for it now.

i use gloves all the time when sculpting...also when using superglue too... as i am very afraid of any mishaps ...and i must say it gives you a whole lot more freedom when working...

the tentacles tips now look million times better... and the added braclets and whatnot details suit them very fine! next time i would but only make not so long ones... but other than that you have made a really good job for this mini!

by the way... i think suctioncups are not a must on these anymore...the braclets then would be probably lost?

Odd that I don't use gloves, I've had the fun of having a pot of super glue basically explode when opened, then having to hurry before it glued my shirt to me. Yet I don't really end up getting cut when I probably should, it's just super glue for me when it comes to hazards.

I also noticed this was on the front page at the moment. Even though it probably doesn't mean anything, ego boost go.

lol...yeah...still front page...and with a nice shot even!!!

that accident sounds awfull...i only ever had "scroched" fingertips from superglue but that made me then already extra cautious...

well...the good thing when working with those medic gloves is that whenever you leave marks with them it looks almost as if intended and you never leave marks that look bad...

That looks like a fantastic idea, it looks really good already, the cloak especially I think the tentacles are are also pretty impressive

Thanks everyone.

The accident only sounds bad I managed to stop it from touching me as I figured it'd likely burn, then cause of the fabric I knew I wouldn't have too long as it was the type that catches easy then melts. Which meant of course it was left to soak in water before being thrown out. Then the fun of getting it off my hands (easy enough with Pine-o-clean I think it was, was stripping something then remembered it also seemed to dissolve super glue bonds), but at least my fingers didn't stick together. I suppose if I did wear gloves at one point or another they'd end up glued to me somehow.

I guess I can take the replies as a sign it's good enough to start painting, as fun as sculpting is I like seeing a completely painted model more. Then I get to repeat the process another 11 times, perhaps mix them through some Daemonettes or something; keep it interesting for all of us.

Pictures seem to be a touch brighter, though the gem will really be the only part to remain close to its current colour; pretty much only getting highlights to make it more gem like. As for the cloak, probably pink though maybe a little darker than the Daemonettes. The skin tone will be the same as them and for the gem it holds in the most outstretched tentacle I'm thinking maybe green.
