Neat, I saw the video demo of the game earlier and didn't realize it was on the USB.

Neat. The board game inspired by video games become a video game itself. The circle is complete.

Played the SD:T alpha demo, it wasn't terrible. Ran better than Warmachine Tactics (actually ran pretty well on my gakky laptop). Its definitely an Alpha/Beta build as there is no AI implemented, so you have to play as both heroes and Consul or hand off the mouse/keyboard. It takes a little too many clicks to do anything atm, which slows things down quite a bit, but I can see that being fixed later on. Consul is OP.

I could see picking it up when its released/Kickstarted.

I have to say - I'm super excited about the idea of SDE: Tactics. I assume it's in the vain of Final Fantasy: Tactics, (or better yet, Tactics Ogre)?

Were the characters the named heroes we are familiar with? (as opposed to just generic character classes)

New spawn point I am less thrilled about - namely as I am already DROWNING in SDE stuff to paint. Good gods Soda Pop, the second wave of the Kickstarter JUST shipped. Give me a few years to catch up.

Beasts of War interview with SPM.

Mention resin going forward for RK and redoing some of the "older" models. Good news I'd say. Wonder if I'm gonna re-buy anything as a result.

Also mentions new SDE stuff in October.

Interesting he mentions scale issues as a reason for redoing some of the older Relic Knight stuff. I wish they'd have taken that into account for some of the Forgotten King stuff!

Still - it's nice to see Ninja Division/Soda Pop growing into a real force here. They've got quite a diverse (and growing) lineup of products.

No, it was more like a gridded XCOM than like FFT/TO. There were no height differences in the one map, it was a lot like just having a video game version of the boardgame.

I want to say it was a mix? It was the Barbarian and Fire Mage from the 1st edition box, and then the Knight with a Lance and Bloodborne Crossbow dude from Forgotten King VS a bunch of Kobolds

Gencon pre-release stuff went up on their store yesterday.

Wasn't quick enough to grab a Calico Kate. Ah well, have to wait for release now.

Razor Ramon HG really let himself go there... sheesh.

Technically he could be there as the Ninja All Stars character. Ingenious!

They have the new resins on sale, right? Anyone pick any up?

So, D&D-like SDE becomes a true D&D game? Interesting.

I was about to sell off all my SDE stuff.

Something like this may keep me from doing so.

Biggest issue still is the rules complexity for my kids. They love the figures, but there's just so much going on, even for me.

Nice - but I hope the KS stays small and sticks with mostly the book(s) plus a few minis.

I suggest you read SPM's SDE:FK postmortem.

It's a very good read on the successes and challenges of the SDE:FK KS.

Having seen SPM's Relic Knights sprawl, result in a cap placed on Forgotten King, and the much tighter Ninja All Stars, I think it's safe to say that Legends will be a far more focused product on similar scale to NAS.

The problem for me is SDE:TFK failed to fix the issues of SDE 1.0 and added more problems, and their response on their forums was basically "We don't care, we like it this way with 5 hour overcomplicated gameplay sessions."

Without fan re-writes, this product would be unplayable. And Arcade mode is gaarbage.

And NAS has very suspect issues which were pointed out by the community only for "We don't care" response when it was pointed out how core aspects of the rules were broken.

I simply can't trust the Sodapop people as game developers... They make fun models (to a point, they can't seem to figure out how to make consistent scale) but I don't feel they are deserving of backing rules sight-unseen anymore.

And all the post-mortem shows, is they want more profit for figures, which means less and less value. NAS was almost choked twice by stalls directly caused by fraudulent stretch goals which were seen for what they were. And they may not like it, but retail price points have been cemented due to TFK. If you can't fill a 30$ add-on with the same number of models as the TFK boxes, people will not go for it.

Inability to write good rules, Ninja Division's greed and every KS since has been less and less value, Fake stretch goals, Model quality issues... Things are not getting better for them, especially when there is drastically better games with better rules coming out on similar timetables.

I didn't really have a lot of issues with SDE 1.0 - is it still 1.0 if you downloaded their FAQ and updated rules? - but my games were usually very simple core box runs.

I did! But Ninja All-Stars still produced, what? Nearly 100 minis? I feel like I am drowning in SDE minis atm having gotten wave 2 of TFK last month. I need them to focus on Relic Knights or something for a while (say a year or two) so I can catch up.

No doubt, SPM is minis-focused rather than rules-focused, and definitely they were lucky rather than good with SDE 1.0. (Kinda like GW in some ways, but even more scuptor-oriented).

Super Dungeon Legends Kickstarter

Soda Pop Miniatures and Ninja Division Publishing are happy to announce the upcoming Super Dungeon® Legends Kickstarter! This exciting Kickstarter will feature three brand new products in a single pledge: Super Dungeon® Explore: 2nd Edition, The Midnight Tower level expansion, and Super Dungeon® Legends boxed set.

Super Dungeon® Explore: 2nd Edition, brings players the rules from our highly successful Forgotten King expansion, in an all new affordable boxset. The ruleset has been updated to include all of the errata and clarifications from the last year of player feedback, and will continue to be fully playable with all existing cards. Super Dungeon® Explore: 2nd Edition, features new sculpts of the nine classic Heroes, all new kobolds, drakes, Rex the kobold ogre, and Starfire the Ruby Dragon. The classic Dragonback Peaks tiles have been updated and reimagined, featuring all new stunning art, to bring them in line with other 2nd Edition tilesets from Forgotten King, Von Drakk Ghost House, and Dungeons of Crystalia. To further increase replayability, all monsters come with multiple profiles. Battle shadow kobolds from the depths of the Nether Rifts, elemental drakes from the Fire Flows, a mighty armored kobold ogre, among others!

The Midnight Tower level expansion reveals the dreaded armies of The Midnight Queen. Armies of baroque-armored Nether Elves issue forth from the corrupted Tower of the Goddess. Within their ranks, cursed Spider Speakers summon scuttling hordes of spiders, spinning webs of shadow and poisoning their foes. Alongside them march powerful Knights of the Tower on spectral steeds, while Tower Stalkers lurk in the shadows weakening the mightiest Heroes, before their fellows strike the final blow. Three new Heroes take up the call to adventure: the rugged Hearthsworn Tincan, sneaky Cat Burglar, and brutal Riftling Warrior.

Super Dungeon® Legends is the centerpiece of this mighty Super Dungeon® extravaganza. Legends introduces progressive campaign play to Super Dungeon® Explore. Heroes battle through adventures earning crystals to spend on powerful new skills and abilities. Advance in class to unlock even more powerful versions. Dismantle your loot and treasure to craft bizarre and wondrous new items, under the watchful gaze of the Golden Eye of the Goddess. Two new and powerful dice are introduced—Citrine and Amethyst—providing new possibilities to combat. New smaller dungeon rooms and hallways make their debut, increasing the diversity of dungeon layouts. If you have always wanted to roleplay in the world of Super Dungeon®, Legends provides rules for narrative adventures, nonplayer characters, and out-of-combat skills. An all new world guide further expands on the realms, races, monsters, and personalities of Crystalia.

All this and more awaits you in just the starting pledge for Super Dungeon® Legends! As always, we have thought up a wide range of fun and unique stretch goals to further increase the possibilities for your games of Super Dungeon®. Over the next several weeks we will preview content for the upcoming Kickstarter. Be sure to check back every Monday and Thursday so you don’t miss a thing!

I just sold off my Forgotten King pledge, much to the chagrin of my kids. They REALLY wanted me to keep it. Damn the rules, they loved just playing with the figures.

I guess they may rope us back in AGAIN if they can simplify things a little bit. But if the sweet spot pledge has lots of new toys to play with, hell, we may end up with yet another SDE game.

Oops, probably shoulda kept SDE:FK if the kids liked it, but I hope you got a good price for it... Rules-wise, there are a number of houserule suggestions and a few variants to try and simplify and streamline the gameplay (e.g. Retro). However, if you are just playing the game, I don't know why you don't simplify it yourself.

I'm not sold on the sculpted eyes (smooth eyes, please), but I do like the notion of Legends expanding the game. Not likely to re-buy 2.0, though. Definitely going to watch SDE:L pretty closely.

Started a Super Dungeon Explore : Legends topic for the Kickstarter, as I know there will be plenty of discussion down the road.
