This is Dakka Detachment One's first year for a comparison
shot, or for another article?

I was going to insert those pictures after this line:

"In 2006 we brought mechanized Imperial Guard and then in 2007 it was Stealer shock Tyranids. In both cases, each of the four team members built and painted their own portion of the army and then brought it to the tournament. This led to a very disjointed look and feel to the army. for Adepticon 2008, we tried something different and created a new Tau army from scratch."

To illustrate the point he is making, but I lack the motivation to change the article.

Tetras are absolutely fantastic units, I desperately wish they could be used in non-IA games. They give the Tau something you can't get any other way, fast-moving markerlights, at BS4 (with a targeting array) no less.

A normal Tau army only has a few real options for getting markerlights, and all of them have serious drawbacks:

1) Sky Ray. It can move and shoot (and has two of them), but it takes up one of your valuable Heavy slots and especially in a team tournie (where you have limited Heavy choices available) that would be almost suicide.

2) Pathfinders. You get a whole heap of markerlights but they all generally have to fire at the same target (unless you pay extra points for a vet sgt with a target lock) and you're stuck purchasing a devilfish for them. We just didn't have the available points to put into a unit like this, plus they have to remain stationary to fire and they aren't too hard to kill.

3) Stealth teams. You can take a min size stealth team, a team leader with a markerlight and 2 marker drones but this is still fairly expensive, BS3, must remain stationary to fire and relatively easy to kill if the enemy gets within 21" of them.

4) team leaders on firewarrior squads. You can give them markerlights but you have to pay 10 points to upgrade them with another 10 points for the markerlight plus you really need another 5 points to give him a target lock so he can fire at another unit. And it's still just a single BS3 shot that has to remain stationary to fire. Plus we weren't taking any non-mech firewarrior units so this wasn't much of an option.

All in all, the Tetra is an amazing buy for 55 points. I don't think it is over-powered either and they should definitely consider adding it to the codex in the next update IMHO. Although I also think pathfinders should be available without a devilfish if a player so chooses (just infiltration).

Also Yakface and I partnered up in game #4 against Mech Eldar, and my one Tetra took about 2 turns of fire from their entire army...but your results might vary.

Here is a funny thing about the team tournament. You get to see how others play, and what they are thinking.

Centurion99 plays a lot more aggressively than I do. But in my defense my dice have it in for me, so I can't take any chances. Jathkin is more laid back than I am, and Yakface is in the middle of the road kind of like me.

So who do you think the weakest partnerships were? In the past 2 years whenever we were paired up with Centurian99/Jathkin, Blackmoor/Yakface our record was 0-3-1, and our record when were were paired with any other, was around 12-0.

This year was a bit difference because the Centurian99/Jathkin, Blackmoor/Yakface was our strongest combo. Go figure...

Good info guys! Thanks for clearin' that up on the tetras. I don't have the IA that has them in it, but maybe I'll have to check it out.

And Blackmoor, sometimes the matchup is unfavorable regardless of who you are paired up with.

Actually our total record up to this point is (I think) 18-3-3.

Yeah, that is kind of screwy. Another way of thinking about it a bit...

2006 -
Centurian99: Std
yakface: Std
Blackmoor: +1 FA
Janthkin: +1 HS
1 loss: +1FA/std
1 draw: +1 HS/Std

2007 -
Centurian99: Std
Janthkin: Std.
yakface: +1 FA
Blackmoor: +1 HS
1 draw: +1FA/+1HS
1 loss: Std/Std

2008 -
Centurian99: Std
Janthkin: +1 E
yakface: +1 HS
Blackmoor: +1 FA
1 draw: Std/+1 HS
1 loss: +1 HS/+1E

Nope, no patterns there that I could see.

Tetras are the greatest thing since sliced bread. cheap, mobile, fast, BS4 (with targetting arrays) markerlights that also happen to have the scout rule.

What's not to like?

Nice looking armies and report you've got there. This cracked me up though:

Sixth, maintaining some mobility would (be) a primary consideration.

Too bad it actually can't match our 37-3-2.

DD1 has quite the long way to go.

Sure. Same bet as Bill and I.

Best Team in Generalship wins the steak.
Best Team in Overall wins the location.

The location is either persons home town.

I do not want you to have to come all the way out to what ever city I might be living in at the time.

How about the winner pays up at the 2009 LVGT or Baltimore?

Well, I actually want you to have to come up to ever so exiting Toledo.

But, 2009 Vegas or Baltimore GT sounds fine.

Your Draw/Loss are reversed (we drew our Std/Std game against Nidzilla).

If anyone failed to notice, I've started putting up BatReps from my TT games.
