For the next survivor I want to do orphan armies. Armies that once had rules and models but no longer do.

Armies that got nerfed or are barely possible would NOT be included in this (ie most of the Eldar craftworlds) they're more less around, just not the same.

And it would be fantasy and 40k

So I can think of:
Adeptus Arbites (NO I do NOT accept that they are in the witch hunter book)
Adeptus Mechanus
Legion of the Damned
Lost and the Damned
Squats
Genestealer Cults
Kroot

Chaos Dwarves
Nippon (long, long ago)

Who else?

Kyoto-san was a humble government worker. Everyday he shuffled
from his house to the embassy, bearing documents to be signed by
great public officials promising big promises between his native land
(so far away) and "the Red Land" (where all government officials learn
their trade). He did not meet the eyes of those that signed or sent him
with orders to get signed. His eyes remained low, bowed, respectful,
and Kyoto-san only ever saw the folded hands, the desks, and the
feet of those men in power above him.

In this way, Kyoto-san lived. - Malfred

Exodites. No more dragon knights.

Actually, aren't Chaos Dwarves still hanging on to the Ravening Hordes list, or is this completely invalidated now?

Zoats
Chaos thug longbowmen

These are units that used to be available in WFB but then got deleted, leaving me with models that I could no longer use.

I don't necessarily agree that all of the above lists are orphaned. I'd shorten the 40k list to Squats, Harlequins, Genestealer Cult, and Kroot Mercs.

I think that LatD generally plays just fine as a IG force with Inquisitional allies.

I take exception to the idea that Adeptus Arbites has been orphaned - as I see it, Arbites are very well-represented by a pure WH force or an IG for with WH allies.

Pan-Fo. I mean seriously wasn't 3rd edition the last time we saw anything rules-wise for them? It really is a shame too because I bet Jervis' son would love them.

LATD as a list is gone. I can use IG/marines for Squats as well.

Second the Pan-Fo. For too long the terror of that list has slumbered. We await its resurrection, rising unbidden from its tomb, a slayer of dreams and mortal men.

When did Arbites or Ad Mech have army lists?

Don't forget Sensei Adventurer Bands.

Chaos Dwarfs still have a legal army list, IIRC.

Arbites had a list - for Necromunda.

Ad Mech had a set of 10 models available under the long-discontinued Skullz promotional program.

Chaos Dwarves are still valid as a Ravening Hordes list for Fantasy. And quite viable.

I don't know why everone is complaining about LATD I just use my cultists as demons now.
"Is that a genestealer patriarch?"
"Nope its skull taker on a jugger."
"Are those guardsmen with warrior weapons."
"Nope they're blood letters."

Thanks GW your "count as" rule is going to infuriate you until I get a proper LATD list again.

I don't know why anyone is complaining about LatD, you can just use "counts as" LOL!

Because clearly, any unsupported army that you can "count as" two or more different current armies has a lot going for it.

They had rules but no models, so they're borderline.

I'll grant zoats, but I'm not worried about invalid units like chaos bowmen or IG with conversion beamers.

Arbites and Mech has lists and models in 2nd edition. You've not been reading my retro reviews!
Sensei, no models, did have rules. Borderline.

Why? Only the bolter armed Arbites were missed. Arbites had all of four models in 2nd edition.

Fimir have gone too. Nippon were never really up to much, much like the Sea elves.

I wish GW would cast their Elric line again.

Funny you say that. For my LatD to be legal as Guard I would have to buy 20+ more guard models. And what to call my demons or Oblit?

LatD are truly Lost and Damned.

It is hard to draw the line between gone, and almost in another codex.

For example:
13th Company
Harlequins
Feral Orks

What were those Space Marines called? The Cursed Founding?
Minotaurs
Fire Hawks
Black Dragons
Legion of the Damned

I was going to say, Citadel Journal Harlequins would be a good one. Although they were their own army in 2nd ed were they not.

Legion of the Damned were not really the cursed founding. They've been around forever.

All those "other" crapters were added much much later.

They were so original, they could be called 'neutral' versions of most major smurf and chaos chapters.

Anyway to add to the list--the Sisters Drop Pod army, the Ordo Hereticus Strike Force. Sure they were just a Citadel Journal list, but it was quite popular among sisters players.

Then came 'Witch Hunters'.

If I vaguely recall there was some kind of flagellant alternative list for Sisters way back when, like a militia or something. Anyone recall?

My Army Builder thinger has these listed under 2nd ed.

Chaos Cult (different from Chaos Space Marines)
Daemon World
Post-Heresy Chaos Marines

Eldar Pirates?

I am going to use my first, and perhaps only post on Dakka to make certain that the Fimir are not forgotten, also I believe that the Slaan used to have their own list back in the days of yore.

I have returned to about 95% working brain cells since I wrote this so I will change it.

Chaos Cult
- Beastmen, Cultists and HQ
Daemon World
- Beastmen, Demons, "Chaos Warriors" and HQ
Post-Heresy Chaos Marines
- Looks like Space Marines with demons, and Chaos Marine named characters. Abby, Ahriman, Cypher and presumably the original Huron Blackheart. Interesting.

Sensei
Slann
Zoats
Eldar Pirates
Eldar Harlequins
Adeptus Arbites (they also had a CJ army list, they are IN!)

To be honest, the Ordo Hereticus Strike Force was Citadel Journal, so it was presented as a trial list.

The older 'Chapter Approved' version had Redemptionists in it... Is that what you're thinking of?

I'd suggest you make squats.. You may covert them with WFB dwarves with guardsman arms... Also you can make some customization with their dreadnaughts too!

The Storm of Chaos lists have generally been incorporated into the main lists as Army Books have been updated. That is why things like Arbites shouldn't be on the 40k list. Just because you don't like how GW changed the list, that doesn't mean there isn't rules support.
