I over-painted some Karman figs (pre-paints for AT-43). I was feeling down about
how they looked. They were like Red Blok rejects! Just to make sure, I put an unpainted
Wendigo next to a painted Anakonga, and said, "Which do you like better?"
"The blue one!" she said.
I burst into tears, "You DO think I'm fat!" I cried.
Anyway, do you have any Spouse, significant other, child stories about your minis?

Then you turn to her and say, "EX-cons."
Then turn back to painting.

When I start getting on my wife's nerves she tells me, "go hang out with your dork friends down at THE store." She never questions my purchases or fascination, just the people she sees when we go into the store together. Granted, there are some "special" people there that are fun to play against but I wouldn't tell them where I live or go grab a beer with them.

That sums up the hobby.
My wife went to ONE Games Day with me. In the long line for the GD entries, we were cut by some jackholes, and all my wife remembers (to this day) is how bad their breath was. She has yet to go back to a GD. We did make the 2001 Games Day website though. They had two females in one shot (not me and my wife, ZING!), so it had to go on the website.

My girlfriend is pretty cool with the hobby, although she has her limits. When I picked up the Apocolypse Gamers pack I proudly showed her the backpack, and promptly said "If you ever wear that in public, we're breaking up." so, up on ebay that bad boy went....
We went to BASHcon in toledo this year, I was in the 40k tournament while she browsed. After running into the chainmail people, she freaked out and left to go shopping. In all fairness, for a southern sorority girl, she's doing pretty well acclimating.

My wife paints 1/8-1/4 scale resin garage kits from Japan. We steal techniques from each other (she's got this cool ground-up pastel shading technique I'm trying to find a good use for...).

My wife is pretty cool with it, mostly because it requires less travel than SCA events, and I don't give her sweaty hugs after painting for a few hours. She even plays around painting 6 pink space marines, though she has been painting them for about 6 months now. She does periodically joke that she is "going to put (my) termie's out on the road and see if the Emperor really protects" when I tease her.
I do sometimes suspect that she considers encouraging the painting of tiny plastic men and women a strong anti-cheating hobby. I could have sworn I heard her tell her friend "He is dead to woman kind" the other day.

My wife once volunteered to paint a fire dragon unit for me. She got through it, and afterwards she had a lot more appreciation for how difficult painting can be.

My wife keeps asking me to buy her models, and then half-painting them. Still, she buys me Forgeworld stuff for birthdays and christmas, so that's cool.
For my 35th birthday, I took all the furniture out of the living room and rented party tables and hosted an apocalypse game. Her only concern was that she get to be the gargant.

Huh, what a coincidence. Of the 20something RTTs I went to, the one time my wife (fiancee at the time) decided to come with me and see what these things were all about was also in Toledo (Glass City Games IIRC). She managed not to be too freaked out despite 1) having had two hours of sleep the night before and 2) the guy who excitedly told us about the miniature he'd converted to look like his favorite porn star- fortunately he didn't have it with him.
My wife is pretty supportive overall; sometimes when she gets bored she'll even prime tanks for me. I think the only aspect that genuinely bugs her is how my hobby projects tend to spread out and conquer large portions of the living room
The really funny thing is actually my mother-in-law, who's totally obsessed with beads and making beaded necklaces. She pretty quickly equated miniatures being to me what beads are to her, so I can usually count on minis for Xmas and birthdays- once I even got a ForgeWorld kit.

Whenever my girl friend, or any other female relative I have, asks me what I'm doing when I'm painting I say "I'm painting the silver pants blue" because we all loved the 40 Year Old Virgin. My best friend does the same thing too.

when my latest ex dropped the bomb on me that she thought i had a girl on the side, i told her,"yeah, she's 32mm's tall and made of white metal...i don't have time to cheat...i have deadlines..." the odd part was, she really appreciated the art of my mini paintin'...
since i'm not a gamer, i don't have to deal with the gamer friend dilema, and i'm way too smart to bring her to the shop and let her watch me geek out on the lastest minis...
my main snag is that i paint at night, so the girls get mad when i cuddle for an hour after sex, and then get up and go home to work...the ladies love that i have a job, but don't seem to consider workin' at home paintin' toys to be "real work"...bollocks!!! i work my tail off, and i don't even get to keep the damn minis...
cheers

At our LFGS, we have a huge hobby table that can seat around 8-10. Really nice affair.
Anyways, it is quite popular on the weekends to gather and shoot the breeze with your buddies "Hobbying". So a guy and his very timid looking "Librarianesque" wife were sitting across from me while they were painting Napoleonics. I was brownstuff molding and a couple guys next to me were sculpting. I noticed them using mineral oil for the lubricant to sculpt their GS and commented on how water based lubricants were superior (mind you, keeping a more civil tongue than usual, noting fairer sex present at the table).
They went out to go buy some astroglide when she piped in, "Hold on a sec" and reaches into her hand bag and pulls out a smallish bottle of water based lubricant. That simple act might have made some nerds shocked in itself.
Embarrassingly enough, that wasn't all that she pulled out...
A small marital aide also fell to the ground as she procured the aforementioned water based lubricant. It could have easily been mistaken for a simple stick of lipstick if it wasn't for landing on its power button, as it started to buzz violently on the ground.
We all just stared for a moment , trying very hard to avert our gazes and refrain from commenting at the item popping about, like a mexican jumping bean on the ground (quite unsuccessfully I might add). She turned a very bright shade of beet red and hurriedly turned it off and stuffed it back into her hand bag. Her husband said "You're on your own honey, you just offered the proverbial 'christians to the lions' I cant help you here" and started to laugh. Thankfully, she laughed as well.

My girlfriend just sits there laughing, pissing her pants (ala cartman and the midget) at me everytime I break out the painting board and the mini's making nerd jokes. She doesn't mind getting me drinks or food in between fits though so I spose it isn't too bad...words are like bullets...:(
