When I look at it, is it pretty much a given that lists will be Chosen Warriors,
Chosen Knights, Marauders at the core? I never played against a Hordes of
Chaos list either, so this is new ground for me.

3 min-sized Marauder units, and 2-for-1 chariots. Bland, but probably effective.

I have only glanced at the get by list, but quickly I could suggest small Marauder units with flails, some Warhounds, lots of Khorne chariots and a Lord on Dragon with Golden Eye of Tzeentch. Maybe a Hellcannon every now and then.

One of the top tourney players in Oz has been using (at 2250 points)
4x25 marauders with flails
x2 mages
BSB
General on chaos dragon
2 chariots.
Extra points of your choice of filler.

Very tough nut to crack.

The two "arch types" I saw would be either:

Lord on Dragon w/ Eye of Tzeench for the 3+ Ward from Shooting.

Or the "stupid enough to maybe work" list that takes 3 units of 20 or so Slannesh Warriors, and the Units within 12" are Stubborn banner to house a Level 4 and 2 Level 2's, with Knights and Chariots making up the rest of the army as you have points.

Voodoo, the list you just suggested is about 2k just for the Warriors and characters, before you get any chariots or knights.

Warriors are still overpriced suck (the loss of Mark of Undivided is awful), though I could see using one unit as an anvil in combination with the banner of the gods BSB, or maybe 2-3 ten man units. But in reality you're most likely going to see A unit of warriors in fluffy lists, and nothing but marauders and dogs in core in more competitive lists.

Hey at 2k you can fit ONE unit of unmarked Chosen Knights w/ non Tzeench Level 2's, or a unit of normal knights and all Tzeench Casters (in Slannesh blocks so you don't autobreak to VC). But you're right I was considering 2250 where you can fit in 2 units of Cav and a Chariot along with the aforementioned setup, you can drop one of the level 2's for more specials if you wanted.

It was just something silly I thought of when considering it; I don't think it's some super list, but it's something offbeat you could do.

The 90 point T5 exalted is about the only thing that gets me excited in the list, and that's mostly for considering 1000 point games.

The list is full of lose. Warriors are still overpriced and now their is no way to get speedier stuff like herd or furies for WM hunting other than a lord on dragon (cannon bait) or cav. Marauders with HW+S are a decent holding option (but still overpriced compared to swordsmen). A big unit of flails is kind of meh as it is so vulnerable to shooting, magic, and panic. Dogs are okay, but very squishy and knights are still expensive. The Eye of Tzeentch character also worked alot better when it could cast spells. As it is, it's okay, but probably not going to win you any friends, comp scores, or tournaments. Fortunately, most groups I have seen seem to be sticking with the HoC book.

I want to know whic nutcase priced the basic weaponry and armour (i.e. non magical) for the chaos lord?

Its like GW deliberately went out of their way to cripple a list and ensure that noone wants to buy any models until the release of the next army book.

Course they did, they want ya to buy up all those shiny new daemons (and cause those lists are boring and predictable they did the same thing only WAAAYYY worse to the mortals)

The only glimmer of hope is that in the blurb before the army list they indicate that a new book is being written, therefore it should see the light within the next year.

However if I was still running my chaos mortals (sold them a couple years ago) I'd just use the HOC list.

20 pt Great Weapon? That's insane. And 15 pts for the Exalted Champion. Charming.

Oh, and how about 15 pt Additional Hand Weapons and 15 pt Shields? And for good measure, they've cut the amount of magic weapon options in half. Fantastic.

Ive been playing with MSU slaaneshi warriors and the banner of the gods - thats rather effective.

In terms of what is good about the list, cheaper knights and chariots are the real stand outs - lists focussing on them will be very powerful.

The weapon costs actually make a lot more sense than previously - you now actually pay for the effectivness you gain, and given VC are paying 20 points for GW+HA, chaos paying a similar cost is hardly surprising.

They really do need a compensation for the loss of MoCU though, I guess it will likelu be +1Ld on all the elite bits.

I just think it's funny that the magical enchanted shield costs less than the regular shield .

Indeed - obvious oversight though. When the common magic items become recosted to Mortals, id expect a points decrease for the sword of battle and striking and an incease for might and the enchanted shield.

The sink.

Maybe they will overlook the costs again and give us cheaper magic items? eh?
