Or did you run away to your abacus and slide rule like a dirty little
luddite? (joke)
I like it. I haven't tried to make custom lists on it or anything yet, but
I do like using it. So far it hasn't done me wrong with my Wood Elfs (that I
know of).

When I got back into Warhammer after a year, year and a half hiatus, one of the first things I did was buy Army Builder 3, as my version 2 wasn't updated anymore. I simply don't point up armies without it.

It also saves you a little bit of Cash, when your opponent tells you his Army for the next game, and you are like "What the hell do 'Scything Talons' do?"
Create a 'Nid list, and go through the descriptions.
For really in-depth stuff, you will need to purchase a Codex.

I thought Excel was invented for Tax Evasion.
I like writing out lists by hand. It's a visceral process and very satisfying to
add up numbers and see what you get on your first go-through. But eventually
you want to tweak or confirm your math ability (or lack thereof) and army builder
makes it easier to figure things out.
It's also important for Fantasy as the amount of Magic Items can be staggering,
at least for my small mind.

Ignore this post, it would probably not be right. I was under the impression that when you purchased the product you were given three licenses, and you could use them as you see fit.

As I believe akira pointed out in the other thread, plain and simply, it is the best program on the market. And until there is competition they will get away with their draconian licensing practices just fine. That is what we (not I! of course!) get for abusing our hacked copies of AB2.
I still don't know if that makes me for or against, so just put me down for a 3. I am a picky sort.

You seem well qualified to write a capable army building
program, Tacobake. Any lKai Lord would do so.

I am well qualified to do a lot of things, if I didn't spend all my time on dakka ... I think that is actually what happened to the Kai Lords in the first place.
that, and I don't want GW coming after me.
Edit:
now here's a thought. I would be willing to write it for dakka, along the same vein as B&C's Spaze Marinez painting thinger. If GW was going after anyone, it would lego and yak. I would be happy with credit, same as any sourceforge program.
in fact I think I will start a thread in N&B ...

I voted 4, I like it, but I am still upset I had to buy it when AB2 worked just fine, and needed only current codex updates...
Subscriptions, limitations and activation codes are obnoxcious, I have 4 computers at home including 2 laptops...
I don't see anything there that was a monstrous improvement over AB2 really. I still found plenty of bugs in the newly released armies as they came out.
I have used the watermark feature and I always use it for my lists so...
Overall I like it.
(Eagerly waiting for AB4... not really)

I like the idea of army builder. I like that it adds stuff up for you and presents it in a useful way. Don't like the interface much lately and can't really be bothered with AB3 as AB2 does it all and has the cool tools to do it all yourself.
I enjoyed using the tools to create custom bloodbowl team files. It's not too hard once you get into it. So all those people who complain about not having their files updated are just being lazy.
Mostly I dissaprove of AB3 because it doesn't do enough over AB2. Kind of like going from windows 98 home to windows 98 pro. You just get the same thing with less bugs. Why pay for it?

I give it a 4. I really liked AB2, and belong to Anarchisitca's Yahoo! group where dedicated users still create current updates for AB2... but I'm also bone-lazy. I usually just wait for AB3 to find the newest file, even though it usually takes at least a month after the army book comes out, and the first version of the file is almost always a little buggy. Not too fond of the yearly subscription fee, either, but I pay it nontheless.
I think what I like most, aside from the sheer convenience, is the ability to use Army Builder with different games systems, not just WHFB or WH40K.
Did anyone reading this thread buy/use Games Workshop's proprietary army creator program, back when they were pushing it a few years ago? I seem to recall that you had to buy different programs for different armies- like, one program for the Imperium and a different program for enemies of the Imperium. Are those programs even still available, let alone supported with timely updates?

Armies of the Imperium, Enemies of the IMperium. two seperate CD's that cost 30 dollars each. The support for those 'CD;'s was attrocious at best. I was gifted them when they first came out and honestly, after waiting for updates, I just went back to pen and paper.
It was a great idea, but someone at GW dropped the ball. From what I understand the person updating it was solo and was very slow.

What's with the hostility against sharing a license? I did it for v2 and have had no reason to get v3 because the Tau file wasn't too hard to modify. Are you guys against sharing an online account for MMos or Xbox live too?

Enlightened self-interest.
If we support the interests of software developers, then
ultimately we benefit through their continued development
of software.
I was going to connect an example to the porn industry, but
that might be a bit much.

Voted 4.
I can't quite give it a 5 because of some of it's quirkyness with updating licenses, reinstalling etc. However, I'll deal with it because I hate making army lists any other way. I still like it enough to recommend it to friends. Plus, my handwriting is atrocious so my opponents undoubtedly appreciate me using it as well.

Ihave the previous version and use it. once fifth hits things may change. PnP is 10x time, but ussually less willing to be changed, or is that related to the 10x time. yea. it is.
How should I vote.

I voted '5.' My first armies were IG and 'nids, and fiddling around with lists would've been about as fun as death my paper cuts. I've always been curious about the love that v2 gets, because the only way you could improve on 3 would be whenever you made a list, it purchased the models for you using it's stash of leprechaun gold.
