With the Imperium of man not being known for "NEW" technology, where did the Thunderfire Cannon
come from?

Were these around in Rogue trader or 2nd edition?

No, but a four-barelled cannon known as the Thudd Gun was. This is just a modern take on the same style of weapon.

I can't wait to see its rules, and I pray the gun is plastic.

Yay! Now marines have a shock attack gun!

Really though, do marines really need their own version? Mekboyz have shock attack guns, techmarines have Thudd gun/Thunderfire cannon.

Seems like marine players just want to have their own version of every single model in the game. I play marines, but I don't think they need as much stuff as they tend to get.

The Thudd Gun goes back to 1st edition. IIRC, squats were the first ones with it, then it went to other Imperial armies (game-wise).

The Shokk Attack Gun came about in 2nd edition.

The model looks pretty cool and it looks to be, in part, plastic. Part of it looks to be taken from a tank kit. I'm also hoping for a plastic kit and some fun rules. Can't wait for October.

that is a pretty hefty piece of metal, if metal it is. But so is the Shokk Attack Gun.

I just think it is cool they made a new techmarine/ have not forgotten about them completely.

... plus on the side.

I love that "speed loader" on the tech-marine's servo harness. It's like he's loading a giant revolver.

The thunderfire cannon is from epic. It was a squat weapon, something like a two barreled earthshaker. Pics on stuff of legends. The new 40k design is very different looking.

What in the Emperor's name are you talking about? Shokk Attack Guns and Thudd Guns have been around since the RT days. This is nothing new.

If you're going to complain about something, like I usually do, at least try to make it a valid criticism.

It came from a designer's desire to acctually see some people take techmarines in their SM armies.

Techmarines are gonna come of age in V ed.

Master of the Forge, conversion beamers, thunderfire - its all good!

I just wished they'ed reintroduced the rapier rather than creating this thing, the model looked a lot cooler IMO.

While you sleep, they'll be waiting...

I hope its not a 0-1 per army weapon, I would love to see a 'grand battery' of thunderfire cannons. might make a cool apocalypse formation at least.

Well, I'm sure you could take as many as you want for Apocalypse

Can we bring the mole mortar back as well? And, you know, Squats?

The Thudd gun is already available as a brand new model: the Forgeworld Quad Launcher. See for yourself.

This Thunderfire cannon thing is completely different. While I have no idea what the rules might be like, I suspect that it's being included because the studio wished more people would field techmarines.

I never said it was new, I said that's why they (may) have included it in the most recent codex.

Also, I'm not complaining, I'm criticizing. I can't wait to get my hands on one. It simply seems like SMs can't go a codex without having their own version of every type of troop in the game. And anything they can't supply themselves they simply pull from an inquisition book.

Finally, it is valid. Who says SMs need such a weapon? Just because it did exist doesn't mean it should exist.

Anyway, that's enough a that. Can't wait to start fielding my techmarine again

I think you misunderstood HBMC's tone as angry, when it was in fact bitter. In that light, its basically a nuetral comment, and in no way insulting.

I like that they may be getting old school, am curious what this thing does. at first i thought it may be some sort of new mole mortar, but I doubt it. I'd love to see a termite model, with the option of just using the front half to model it emerging.

As someone pointed out earlier, FW have their own version. This is more techie however, and the FW version is actually a mortar launcher...

I for one love the new Techmarine, and I hope that the rules are up to scratch.

Yes, the argument that it was available before doesn't hold. By that logic I want my IG landspeeders and landraider back.

Having said that I like the mini

I think the confusion about your comment is happening because a thudd gun and a shok attack gun are nothing alike. A thudd gun was like a 4 barrel repeating mortar, and a SAG is a thing that teleports snotlings, or gretchin (?) into things for hilarious results. Some people reference the mole mortar when talking about this new marine thingy. That fired subterranean rounds to collapse the ground beneath a target, or to attack underground vehicles. I am not sure why these things make you think of the SAG.

Yeah, the termite was cool. I found an old White Dwarf that have an ad for the termite models (above ground, and surfacing) as well as the giant termite thing who's name escapes me at the moment. I have been thinking about making something like this for Apocalypse. Essentially a drop pod with slightly different rules... perhaps it pins units that it emerges under.

The mole was the other one. I thought that only one had troops in it and the other was a seriously huge bomb that drilled up underneath your stuff ...
