This summer I have planned on spending safely cooped indoors with my sculpting tools and toxic putties and now, a few weeks into it, I thought I'd flash a bit of what I've been up to...

Let me know what you guys think.

My center is giving way, my right is in retreat; situation excellent. I shall attack.

Here's my issue... What's it going to be? You've put SO much work into him now that, if you put any clothing or armor on him, you'll be covering the spectacular work you've already done. It makes your effort up until now pointless if you simply sculpt something else over it.

Great anatomy, dude. I would cast that as a nude and then use it for an armature for other models.

Slick sculpting!

Add a head and 50 pounds of fat and he looks just like me! (I have wire arms.)

10/10, excellent sculpting work

Thank you all for the great comments! Muchly appreciated.

The point of this model really is just to portray my talent at sculpting a good male figure, and to some point, prove and remind myself that I -can- actually sculpt a little... Sometimes its good to be reminded of it.

But yes, as I am personally quite pleased with it and it will be small and easy to cast as a single piece, I might make a mold of it and cast a few copies if only to show off equipment and stuff like that, as I do plan to keep the original naked.

The material I use on my sculpting is actually this marvelous stuff called Magic Sculp, a two-part epoxy that cures good and hard and most importantly for sculpting purposes, has no organic memory like green stuff and a lot of the other sculpting putties out there, meaning that Magic Sculp will not seek out a round shape... so once you sculpt a sharp edge, it will remain sharp (until to the point when your thumb or other fingertip finds it... Blasted be those stupid, wondering digits!)

Also Magic Sculpt is -dirt cheap-, and seems to last through the ages. I am still using the same two -buckets- of the stuff I got close to ten years ago...

Looks amazing. What other projects do you have planned this summer?

I got my Magic Sculp (Yes, it is Magic Sculp without the 't' in the end... go fig...) years ago from their own webstore if I recall correctly, but they no longer sell through their own site so you just have to make searches on the stuff. The web is full of sellers.

Though, a word of warning, I would have to say that I think that Magic Sculp, for all of its brilliant sides, -is- actually a touch more difficult to figure out than Green Stuff as it is much softer at first and thus, every mistake you make shows, so its pretty unforgiving unlike green stuff that is a bit more user-friendly...

I have a few other projects going on at the same time, as is always great to have when you are sculpting so you are not just twiddling your thumbs while your putty cures, so one project I have going is a prize-statue for a painting competition at RopeCon, Finlands biggest rpg and miniature gaming convention. I will post pictures of those as well when I have them finished...

Looking at that sculpting (just plain WOW), I think the cast and armature idea is a really good one. It would really be a shame to lose that detail... I mean, in that it has to go SOMEWHERE.
