Looking at Codex: Daemons, it seems that Skulltaker's true name is U'Zuhl. If memory serves correctly, U'Zuhl is the deamon inside Archaon's sword. Has the Slayer of Kings been broken, letting Skulltaker out, or something like that?
I only have the codex to refer to, so is there any clarification in WH Armies: Daemons of Chaos? Just a thought that's been bugging me, hope someone knows the answer

U'zhul is his name in the WHFB book too.
He had his ass kicked by Sigmar and still bears the scar.
Reading Hordes of Chaos: The 'Greater Daemon U'zhul' is in The Slayer of kings. Bound by the second Chosen Vangel.
I know Archaon was slapped around at the end of Storm Of Chaos but don't know if his sword was broken.
Damn it wife wants the net, will check later for SOC info.

Who is this Archaon? There was never an Archaon. There never was a massive Chaos campaign led by some Lord of the Endtimes. Warhammer fluff has never changed, what you are experiencing is a false memory. Here, take this pay stub and get yourself some Victory Gin.

Why did Archaon attack the Empire? The only thing that's stopping Chaos having millions of huge daemons are the High Elves. Chaos thrives on the winds of magic, the elves did that funny ritual thing (that's the technical term for it) that drained all the magic. Before this happened Chaos had daemons twice the size they are now.
If i was Archaon i'd have sent everything i had to Ulthuan (and bought some shares in a ship building firm)

I imagine this is a case of "time is strange in the warp". U'zuhl is simultaneously chopping heads off folks and riding Archaons scabbard.
|
All in all, fact is that Warhammer 40K has never been as balanced as it is now, and codex releases have never been as interesting as they are now (new units and vehicles and tons of new special rules/strategies each release -- not just the same old crap with a few changes in statlines and points costs).

no comment to that alph
and im guessing GW needed a quick name so flicked through a book and used the 1st name they saw.

Archaon attacked the Empire because he wanted to destroy the Fires in the temple of Ulric in Middenhiem, doing that he would destroy Ulric and become a god himself thats his reason for attacking the Empire, in regards to sword thing it may like has been said the design team being lazy or a cock up, still prehaps only part of the daemons essence was bound in the sword or something to that degree

A fist full of Mork and Gork put an end to that campaign. Maybe a bit of greenskin boot kicked the daemon out of the daemon-blade?

For the life of me, I'm not sure how Archaon avoided Spawn-hood after his epic failure during the Storm of Chaos.
Of course, GW tried to spin the a$$-kicking he got into "He sure did rape and pillage a lot on the way to failing miserably" but still, I think this was the campaign that finally let everyone know that, no matter what happens, NOTHING will happen...

I'm pretty sure they are just identical names for different daemons, though admittedly this is coming from reading "Blood for the Blood God"
According to that book Skulltaker is a daemon prince, just one that hasn't grown large for some reason and I don't know of any fluff saying that Daemon Princes can can bound into weapons, so the similar names could just be coincidence.

It is probably two different daemons as in the Mortal book it says the GREATER daemon. Whereas Skulltaker is a lesser daemon, a kickass lesser daemon, but lesser nontheless. Although interestingly, the Daemons book lists "the slayer of kings" as a nickname for Skulltaker, this was also the name of Archaon's sword

Ya know, looking at the rules for Grimgor and Archaeon ... I don't think Grimgor could every really beat Archy in a fight.
It's just that Grimmy's got better publicists. Archy ate his.

The Strength, amount of powers, and Will Power of a Daemon Weapon in Inquisitor is equal to what type of Daemon is in the weapon, whether Beast, Lesser, Prince, or Greater.

The Daemons do appear to be the same but here's another fun point to bring up.....
Model wise he is shown as a beefed up Bloodletter. But find the fluff on the Skulltaker and you see that he is actually very much humanish. Sure he has Khorne icons but he is w/ out a doubt humanoid in appearance. There are no stories of him all daemon in appearance while he does Khornes bidding
|
You flatter me. But really, I'm just an ordinary guy. I put my pants on the same way anybody else does: I put a gun to the head of my manservant and bark Russian military commands at him until the poor blighter either figures it out or watches his brains exit his forehead.

Ozymandias, King of Kings
You know better dude
Archaons greatest weakness is the pinky, Slaanesh woggle wiggled around his sould. And as Grimgork came along it was enough to laugh about the pinky woggle and Archy was done.
It´s shameful but better blame Slaanesh than admit your hardcore badass King of Armageddon IC got owned by a greenskin.
