I have been selectively reading some of the Heresy Novels, and I have to say one thing. I am currently beginning reading the one about the Battle of Calth by Abnett, and damn, what an opening sequence. I'm a long (almost 20 years!) time 40k fan, so I am used to the crazy proportions, but I had to think a minute to imagine what an entire Grand Cruiser falling out of orbit would even LOOK like to the people below.

Great read it is. I'm digging my way through echoes of the long war which despite having the best title today's is definitely the most disappointing since book one. It's a good story just feels a little like a filler.

I asked Laruie Golding on First Expedition if we were going to see a Tallarn anthology and he said one hasn't come up in discussions yet which is making me lean towards picking up Ironclad but I'm convinced they'll eventually release an anthology with Execution, Siren, Witness and Ironclad all bundled together.

Apologies if this isn't the best place for this but I'm not sure it merited it's own topic...

For those of you that are, or just want to keep track of what's been released in the Horus Heresy serioes I've created this spreadsheet which can be accessed here:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/16y9Fs3HvjkCUJmSFrWxAk3iEt718FBw_IDlkuJn2HGk/edit?usp=sharing

It's not great by any means and I lost my sanity a bit with it as I was creating it but it basically breaks down the full Heresy series into the following sheets:

- Full total overview of everything in rough order (by year)
- Numbered novels
- Anthologies
- Audios; this could be redundant though as everything's getting a prose release
- Novellas
- Other i.e. Tallarn: Ironclad, Macragge's Honour

You'll see I lost interest in trying to colour code it and if I ever re-read the series the data can be updated. At the very least it might be a useful base for other Heresy fans to make their own version

Ah right, I've not read them yet so assumed given the background that they'd be Iron Warriors focussed.

Well in fairness it's a bit hard to research that sort of thing without potentially spoiling the stories themselves, I just had a quick look at the synopsis for one of the shorts and got an almighty spoiler straight off that basically told me who won the battle!

Like I said - what's been created isn't great by any stretch of the imagination and people are free to mess around with it as they see fit, just thought I'd share it in case anyone else wanted to make use of it as a starting point or as it stands.

Anyhow don't want to get dragged off topic with this, appreciate the feedback though so if probably best if anyone notices any errors or omissions to PM me and I'll amend it and update the link periodically?

David Annandale speaks07/06/16
"With the new novel 'The Hunt for Vulkan', David Annandale becomes the first author to write a second book in the hit event series. We caught up with David to find out about his experience writing the novel, and of tackling a certain very famous character.

""Writing this volume of The Beast Arises marked a new experience for me. This was the first time I had come back to a series in progress, and it was a lot of fun to find where characters had wound up since I had last worked with them, and how their crises had evolved. And then, on top of that, there was the title character…

This was another first for me – the chance to write a Primarch, and outside the Horus Heresy, no less! This raised a number of questions concerning the state of mind of this last of these great beings. What really appealed to me, too, is the weight of history and legend now at work in the arc of The Beast Arises. The more we learn about these orks, the more ominous they become, not just in terms of their power, but in their significance to the history of the Imperium.

So now, Koorland and the Last Wall must find one legend to battle another.""

Thanks David. Check out 'The Hunt for Vulkan' now in hardback, eBook and MP3 audiobook formats."

The Angels of Death13/06/16
"With the new Horus Heresy novel 'Angels of Caliban' out this Saturday, we asked author Gav Thorpe to give us some teasers about what we can expect from the book. As is the way with the Dark Angels, he delivered five secrets, each of them hinting at exciting possibilities and the danger that lies ahead for the First Legion. Here's the first:

Gav: ""The Dark Angels have the longest history of all the Space Marine Legions – predating even the Imperium, though not with their current name. Before the discovery of Caliban and the Lion were known, before the Emperor’s warriors left the Sol system, they were known as The First. And even earlier, during the Unification Wars, the Legions had not yet been created and the Emperor’s finest warriors existed as the Six Hosts of the Angels of Death. Known as the Hexagrammaton, the exact organisation of which has been lost, these hosts were renamed after ‘wings’ that existed in Calibanite culture – the Deathwing, Dreadwing, Firewing, Ironwing, Ravenwing and Stormwing. Each has its own strategies and access to unique devastating Terran technologies.""

Come back every day this week for a new teaser, and to be amongst the first to know when the novel is available to buy, sign up for the Horus Heresy newsletter."

Medusan Wings

An Iron Hands novel

It's death from the skies as the sons of Ferrus Manus take to the skies to defend an Adeptus Mechanicus facility from the greenskins. The flesh may be weak, but can Medusan steel prevail against the orks?

READ IT BECAUSE
It's fast-paced, pulse-pounding airborne action from the 41st millennium, with some fascinating insights into the Iron Hands.

THE STORY
The flesh is weak. The machine is perfect. All of the Iron Hands Space Marines know this to be true, and none better than Atraxii, a gifted pilot of the Clan Company Kaargul. He returns to Medusa as a newly ordained Techmarine, only to be thrust into a conflict that will test not only his flesh, but also his most strongly held convictions. As the pilots of Medusan Wing scramble to defend an Adeptus Mechanicus refinery against ramshackle greenskin squadrons, what secrets are their allies hiding from them? And will the Iron Hands be able to transcend their weakness?

Written by Matt Westbrook

Sounds cool enough..

so I'll wait for either w'stone/similar vouchers or the softback release in x months.

Eh. Just once it would be nice to get a "propaganda" novel for my favourite chapter. You know, one where they just embrace the concept and ideals of the chapter and don't spend half the "runtime" of the story "testing most strongly held convictions", or inevitably featuring that one AdMech enclave that didn't seem to get the memo that the Iron Hands are probably their most trusted allies among the Astartes.

Wraight's effort came closest, but even that had that fething awful Ferrus "quote" at the beginning that gave rise to the Nu-Hands robo-Vulcan fluff.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks
-----
"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal
