That's what she said!

Another excellant episode, thanks lads.

This time I've actually already bought the game you're reviewing (MPoc) beforehand, so I can't blame you for this one.
Me and 5 friends did the buy-in approach Eric mentioned and bought 1 case of monsters and 1 case of units. It worked just like he said and we got at least 1 of everything. It's really not too pricey doing things that way, though, I feel like a drug dealer is offering me the first hit for cheap!

I've only gotten through the Achievements in Gaming so far, but noticed you didn't give an end date for the contest. What's the deadline?

Remember, remember, the Dalek December
With Paris in ruins and London in ember
In times of the future when fears are abating
Don’t try to forget them, the Daleks are waiting
Quietly planning and scheming and hating…

The deadline for the contest is midnight GMT on Tuesday, Oct. 21.

Keep 'em coming, guys!

Far-stretching, endless Time
Brings forth all hidden things,
And buries that which once did shine.
The firm resolve falters, the sacred oath is shattered;
And let none say, "It cannot happen here".

I would hazard a guess that you might find it in your nearest branch of Forbidden Planet. Not sure where that would be though... Manchester perhaps if you're in north wales.

Order it on-line Owen.

The two UK suppliers who supply to my L(Irish)GS are both out of Mpoc starters, and have no idea when they'll get more in.

PP's warehouses are empty according to their own posts. So if you're interested, I'd try and order it online now.

Though, who knows, maybe ebay will be full of people dumping it over the next few months. I don't think so though, it's much more interesting than I originally expected.

I'm very seriously considering converting my terrasaures into Godzilla and baby Godillas.

Which would, of course, be Godzookie.

You guys keep talking about how horrible the demo at gen-con was but you keep neglecting so say exactly WHY the demo was so bad.

For some reason I really want to know what the demo was doing so wrong!

There were two problems with the demo:

1) The demo givers only received the rules the day before and weren't really clear on them.

2) In an attempt to keep the demos "fast and light" they left out large chunks of the rules which makes the game MUCH less interesting.

What Russ said. In addition, I'd say that the demo guy we got was making for his lack of knowledge with enthusiasm, which came across like certitude, and we didn't want to argue.

I completely understand the concept of the 'streamlined demo', I was trained on it by one of GW's luminaries. But this was more like: "OK, now it's your turn. You have to move your units. move them here, here, and here. Now they will shoot at the big scary monster because he's big and scary! You'll be combining fire so roll x dice of abc colors and bam! you hit him! Now move the rest of your dice to your monster pool, as you must alternate between units and monsters . . . "

You basically learned almost nothing, and what you did learn was 50% wrong.

Again, though we don't blame anyone. It was an unfortunate confluence of events, and we're glad to see that the game isn't hurting for the bad initial buzz.

Don't really know what a dutch accent sounds like (other than Mike Myer's Goldmember) so can't help you there.

Nice one. Just got around to listening last night finally and it was worth the wait.

Good segment Owen. I spent 6 months of my youth in Llanelli and never yet learned how to pronounce it properly! I don't think I have the right number of teeth to speak the language ...

Another exquisite When Wives Attack! Karen and Nicole can manipulate this particular sock-puppet any day. Definitely once again the highlight of the episode!

And now for M'poc.

I bought the starter for £14.40 online and was reasonably satisfied with the contents. The component quality was nice, and I agree the gameplay seems fun. So, I popped into my FLGS for a booster. Which was SUCH a mistake.

It cost me £10 and on opening I was crushed. Not one single unit to match my monster faction and the box was just full of empty air - the unit models are just absolutely teensy-weensy and feel like very poor value for money at that price! Hmmm. for £20 I can buy two boosters and possibly end up with two tiny little models I may want, with a load of junk I'll end up having to flog on eBay.... or I can buy a box of models for Infinity, AT-43, 40k, LotR or whatever - knowing that I want every single one of them..... Hmmm. Now which shall I go for...?

Now, I know I can get a booster online for around £7. BUT here's the rub. This game is fun but its not THAT fun. Its no more fun than I can get from a zillion and one other games I currently play. So my decisions to buy another booster rely on my impulse - splashing out on a booster for cash while I am browsing in a store. If I require the level of planning and forethought required to make an online purchase I will be not going ahead with the purchase, because the rational side of my brain is telling me that I'm unlikely to get the models I want.

So, for me I concur with HD (or whatever he calls himself now...) and the "collectible" nature of the game just kills it for me. There's not enough of us in our gaming group to justify going down the "case purchase" route to get all the factions we want, so we are stuck with buying individual boosters. Which just SUCKS big, salty, chocolate ones! Its a decent game. A game I'd happily play with my friends from time to time. But not one I'm going to "collect" as such, as the ratio of disappointment to cost is too high.

Either the has to come down price significantly to entice me to buy boosters "on impulse" (£10 is just too high for me to justify when there is no guarantee of getting what I want), or they have to give me access to individual models if I'm going to bother to progress with the game.

I can see the appeal of "collectibility" for those that like swapping and have access to many other swappees. FOr me that's not an option, so, I guess I failed my "re-roll"...

I would give it a 4+ (if you like Kaiju its probably a fun game for you. If you aren't that bothered about Kaiju - and chucking Godzillas and giant robots around a city doesn't appeal to everyone - I can't see you being interested and you are likely better off buying a boardgame in a genre that does appeal to you. Or just buying more models for one of your current favourite games.)

And as someone who owes no loyalty to a gaming store, I say "go the ebay route". As Russ explains it the only "winners" from the whole blind purchase methodology are the stores, so stuff 'em! Personally I find it frankly rather immoral to sell blind boosters to kids - its almost as bad as scratch card gambling! If they're prepared to do that I'm not prepared to be their patsy! I'm prepared to help my local FLGS, but only so far. Once they start trying to rip me off, they can forget it!

The whole collectability thing does add many levels of suckage to the whole experience.

I think that MPOC will end up being nice for booster drafts if you've got enough people to go in on it. Normally I'm not a huge fan of that format but I think it will be a good way to get appropriate faction models for less money. Other than that, I like the game but I agree that the collectability + cost of boosters will prohibit me from picking up many models.

Chaps, to answer your question about Grimnir.

He was an ancient dwarf hero / God type chap, who fought with Caledor (pansy high elf) against the forces of Chaos. He was also furnished with a pair of axes by Grungi, one of which is wielded by Gotrek, and one by Grombrindal (the White Dwarf).. Although there is speculation that they are the same axe, so there is one unaccounted for...

Of course, the origin of the name is from Nordic mythology, the name meaning 'masked one' or possibly 'hooded one' and is one of the nicknames of Odin. Specifically related to the Grimnismal (song of Grimnir).

Not that anybody here is likely to be interested in this tidbit of trivia, but still, couldn't leave that lying about.

Not really.

And I should know - I only have to listen to myself talk when I'm tired to hear a Dutch accent.

I have to agree with previous posters, that thought I am a huge kaiju fan boy. (I have numerous godzilla and other monster statues in my house as well as various godzilla plushes and all the movies I can get my hands on.) I am simple not interested in sinking any money into a collectible game. I am playing mutant chronicles for that very same reason, they switch to a non-blind purchase so I am much happier to spend my money on that than on another CMG that will most likely be a flash in the pan in my local area like every other CMG.

I have to disagree withy all the nay sayers out there on MPOC. It’s a great game never mind the blind purchase god forbid unless you are a hermit or are just so socially introverted and don’t want to talk to anyone but part of the fun is trading the units you don’t need for ones you do. Not to mention the monster you got may be one you may end up playing with ya never know. Don’t be afraid to play a few games and see what ya think. Don’t let the collectors blind purchase talk you out of trying out a very fun game.

By the way great show and keep up the good work
