Okay, I came up with this force a while ago to power-game up a 500pt force of guard that would counter pretty much anything thrown against me. popular ideas for 500pt forces included 3 whirlwinds et al, so deepstriking an entire army barring the Stormtroopers into the thick of things is rather amusing. The list was made for 4th ed, and I'm not sure how effective it will be in 5th ed, but thoughts are most welcome.


500 point Imperial Guard Army:

Doctrines:
i) Grenadiers
ii) Drop Troops
iii) Special Weapons Squads
iv) Storm Trooper Squads
v) Independent Commissars




HQ 1 - Command Platoon = 48 points.


Junior Officer (40) 48pts
Bolt Pistol (1) and Power Weapon (5). Surveyor (2).
4 Guardsmen.
Lasguns.

Support Squad I = 45 points.
Special Weapons Squad (35) 45pts.
6 guardsmen, Lasgun. 1 Demolition Charge (10).

Support Squad II = 45 points.
Special Weapons Squad (35) 45pts.
6 guardsmen, Lasgun. 1 Demolition Charge (10).


Troops I = 50 points.
Stormtrooper Unit.
5 Stormtroopers (50) 50pts.
Sergeant with Hell Pistol and Close Combat Weapon. 4 Troopers with Hellguns and Targetters. All Stormtroopers have frag and Krak Grenades.



HQ II and Troops II - Last Chancers Detachment.


Split into 5 Sub Units. Each unit may either Deep Strike or Infiltrate if the mission permits it.

Group I = 168 points.
Colonel Schaffer (75) 75pts
Power Sword, Plasma Pistol, Carapace Armour, Bionics, Macaharian Cross and a Medallion Crimson.

Lieutenant Kage (75) 35pts
Bolt Pistol, Close Combat Weapon, and Invulnerable Save (Crazy).

Last Chancer (11) 11pts
Laspistol and Close combat Weapon. Frag and Krak Grenades.

Last Chancer (11) 11pts
Shotgun. Frag and krak Grenades.

Last Chancer (11) 36pts
Specilist (5), Frag and Krak Grenades. Demolition Charge (10), Power Sword (5), Bionics (5).


Group II = 36 points.

Last Chancer (11) 36pts
Specilist (5), Frag and Krak Grenades. Demolition Charge (10), Power Sword (5), Bionics (5).

Group III = 36 points.
Last Chancer (11) 36pts
Specilist (5), Frag and Krak Grenades. Demolition Charge (10), Power Sword (5), Bionics (5).

Group IV = 36 points.
Last Chancer (11) 36pts
Specilist (5), Frag and Krak Grenades. Demolition Charge (10), Power Sword (5), Bionics (5).

Group V = 36 pts.
Last Chancer (11) 36pts
Specilist (5), Frag and Krak Grenades. Demolition Charge (10), Power Sword (5), Bionics (5).


Total Points Cost = 500 Points.
Total Troopers = 31.
Total Demolition Charges = SEVEN!

P.S. Looking at the list again actually, I could drop the power weapon and bionic abuse in the Demo-Last Chancers and get some plasma guns/flamers in the command squad/Stormtrooper units. But still 2 power weapon attacks is still good, meh.

Thanks mate, I don't either...Tempted to get this little force though, would be quite fun to mess with.

To expand it to 750pt's, I'd add in 2 Indirect Firing Earthshaker Tanks, the whole long range artillery support is always useful.

The other thing I've seen done with the Last Chancers is you get a Cullexus assassin and make all the last chancers psykers, it's an expensive unit but that Cullexus gets a solid 22 strength 5 AP 1 BS 5 (or 4?) shots a turn at 12"'s thanks to being in range of the entire unit of psychic last chances. LOL! One trick pony that which will go off maybe once and never again. Still, damned hilarious. Actually...you could split the chancers down and stick em in separate chimera's and move em up to the cullexus, whilst the chancers are in the armour, they are better protected and still within range of the Culexus despite being inside the tank...heee...

P.S. For the Demo Corps Force, collect it as a 500pt detachment for Apocalypse games, and if you can take any of the funky items then a Vortex Grenade on the Junior Officer would be appropriate, lol.
