I got this email from the Avatars of War: Deathmatch folks. I haven't had a chance to fully look through the rules yet (although my brief glance at it tells me it is a VERY nice looking product at the very least).

Hi Dakka Dakka team,

I am from Avatars of War and I email Dakka Dakka because I think this info could be interesting for your community. I know you are open to every miniature game and for this reason i want to announce that we are published our first miniatures game: Arena DeathMatch!

It has been a very big project, and I am especially glad it finally sees the light.

The electronic version of the rulebook contains everything the "real" rulebook does, excepting the front and back cover. However, all images in the electronic book are low-res versions of the real images to decrease the file size. If you like to have a look you can download the electronic version of the Arena DeathMatch rulebook (zipped PDF, 23Mb) or http://www.avatars-of-war.com/adm.htm

I invite you, as a one of the most important communities about the miniature gaming hobby to take a look and I hope you find it's been worth the long working hours behind the game and the book!

To summarize Arena DeathMatch game information:

  • Arena DeathMatch rulebook

  • 140 full colour pages rulebook. Contains all the necessary rules to play Arena DeathMatch, background info and maps of the Darklands fantasy setting, lots of artwork by artists like Mark Gibbons and Des Hanley among others, a painting guide by Mike McVey, a "building an arena" guide, and several scenery templates to build and spice-up your arena. The rulebook is of the highest quality, with thick varnished pages and an extra strong binding to resist continuous gaming use!

  • Arena DeathMatch Band Maker

  • The easiest way to create a band of Avatars is to use the Arena DeathMatch Band Maker. Not only does all the math for you but also lists all available training options for each Avatar of War and prints your band in an easy to use roster sheet.

    (zipped Microsoft Excel file, 1Mb)

  • Record cards

  • As an alternative to using a band roster sheet, you can use the record cards. Each Avatar of War card lists all the necessary info to control an Avatar of War while playing Arena DeathMatch!

  • Scenery templates

  • You can download the scenery templates included in the rulebook. Ready to print high resolution scenery templates to spice-up your arena.

  • Gaming templates

  • You can download the gaming templates included in the rulebook. Ready to print high resolution gaming templates for different in-game effects.

How nice. Somebody actually going for the 'something for nothing' idea and letting you download the rules!

Mark Gibbons and Des Handly did the art work? Well that explains a lot. Wondered why it looked so much like Warhammer.

I really do wish Gibbons still did art for GW. Best artist they ever got, lost, got and then lost again.

GW apologists make baby Jervis cry.

"As a customer, I'd really like to like GW, but they seem to hate me." - Ouze

"Hoping for balance with GW is like hoping to live while playing Russian roulette with a glock." - Shaman

"I am amazed at the numbers of plastic space marines sold. I can't believe it, I keep expecting it to be a front for drugs." - Jervis Johnson

    Agreed!

It may be heresy to say, but I'm more than a little tired of Mr. Blanche...

They'd need to learn Adrian Smith to draw some proper faces for a change, all those blocky and square faces are so passée these days!

The main sculptor for Avatars of War is a former GW sculptor as well. IIRC this all started by him sculpting beautiful alternate hero figures for use in Warhammer fantasy.

Wherever he came from, the sculptor is a genius! My only gripe is that we need more more more!

I guess he (Gibbons) could hold a candle to Dainton.

Funny thing, I'm personally responsible for the boar snout on the Orc's belly armor. I wonder if that entitles me for a discount.
