As the subject says. Curious to know what you think. I have played the army in 4th ed vs a Khorne beserker army. It destroyed that army in HtH. Is it still viable in 5th Ed? I am gonna test it again but wanna run it past you fellas.

Hq Deciever

Hq. Necron Lord with res orb
destroyer body, disruption field
Tr. 10 Necron Warriors

TR. 10 Necron Warriors / with disruption fields

TR. 10 Necron Warriors / with disruption fields

Fa. 10 Scarab Swarms / with disruption fields

Fa. 10 Scarab Swarms / with disruption fields

Fa. 10 Scarab Swarms

Hv. 3 Tomb Spiders

Hv. 3 Tomb Spiders

Hv. 3 Tomb Spiders

2000pts

How it has worked in the past is to run the lord with the swarms up as fast as possible, lord will stay back with the Warriors if the opponent has a chance to get to them. Spread out as far as possible. Engage multiple units. Run the tomb spiders every turn till they hit CC. Making a swarm per Spider till it reaches the front line. Which adds 27 wounds per turn to the army and increases the army points total by 108per turn, as long as the spiders survive that is. Deciever jumps in and helps mop up. Doing what he does best. Confounding the opponent and then jumping in and eating what ever is left. Necrons run up and shoot whatever is not in CC. Or chill on objectives by staying in cover and going to ground on top of them.

Wondering if anyone has run or faced this army. I know it has weaknesses. But what armies do you think it will excel at beating and what armies would just tear it up. I think jump armies would be a pain for it. Drop pods I think will win or lose in the first drop.

How would you make it stronger and still staying with the same theme? I like the idea of tons of scarab and spiders blocking out the sun with the warriors mopping up what ever wasn't swept up.

Also not looking to make it a top tier army just competitive enough for local RTT.

What do you think?

scarabs are the only actually good melee unit in the necron list so i'd take the max of 30. 5th edition is more melee oriented than 4th was, but the metagame has shifted such that people come prepared for hordes more than they used to. It could work, but i think you'd have really big problems with any mobile army that can deal with scarabs.

You speak the truth. I used to run 3 x 10 scarabs but in a normal game, not using this list, the destroyers just killed so much that it was hard not to include them in this list. But your point is well taken and i may switch back after a few trial games.

NC

If you want CC, why not take a few out flanking flayed ones? It could help trap your opponent and make him fight the spyders.

Well flayed ones are nice. I run them in my regular list. Problem with this list is where to drop any points. besides it is more of a swarm type of list. But if i were to use them I would drop the Destroyers.

Update.

I was able to finally play this army in 5th ed. Holy cow it is fun as . I played a marine player and a BA player. Both with well rounded armies and the BA had a ton of HtH. I could not believe as I watched it just roll over them in sheer killing ability. One game was close but the BA game ended on the top of turn 4 as he had very little left on the table. I was shocked and our dice were average. If you play crons I recommend this army and giving it a shot if for nothing else other then seeing the look on their face. They had no idea what to expect and it took them by surprise. Both were class A opponents with good lists. Not Duel lash or Nob biker spam type of armies but will hold their own vs the best.

Is this the best army? No but hella fun and confusing for the opponent.

What about working in some wraiths? I think they are one of the best necron CC units, as far as tying up a unit goes. And they can be hidden behind cover and then phase right through on the charge. A unit of 3 wraiths attached to a necron lord on destroyer body with a warscythe makes for a CC monster. If anything that unit will force your opponent to try and engage it at range taking some fire away from your spiders who will be creating new swarms and advancing to charge.

Well I have played Necrons since they have first come out. I based this army around the visual of the scarabs blocking out the sun. For this reason the Tombs spiders making more swarms to keep a high level of swarms on the table seemed mandatory. I like the idea that it was like a first strike before the hordes of warriors were assembled and would make use of the anarchy created by the swarms.

There are many ways to make this list better. However keeping the list to the visual and theme is a bit tough. I love wraiths and will swear by them but they just don't fit for me in this list.

Good suggestion for a better list. However the best list was not my ultimate goal.
