Method:
Squirt a little 'hard as nails' or 'no more nails' into the rough size of flame your aiming at. Tease at the glue to make points using the sharp end of a craft knife. Make sure your points are going roughly 'upwards'.
These are some I made earlier.
As soon as I work out how to colour them like flame, I'll update this!

THis works well, I just tried it. My only recomendation is to do it on wax paper to make it easier to get the flames off.

I can see it working with a flamer, but it would be difficult because of the small size. You would use a guide wire (either projecting from or to be later inserted in the nozzle) and bend it up at the end opposite the nozzle. Apply the glue to the wire and spike/tease it upwards and probably slightly backwards (towards nozzle).
To the op: Prime white, making sure to get in all crevasses. Then paint from yellow to orange to dark red to possibly even black in sort of a reverse highlight method that leaves recesses bright and surfaces darker. Remember, fire cools and darkens the further it is from the core heat source.

That wouldn't hurt, but I've been remodeling my kitchen, the stuff is sticky and rigid, you wouldn't need to do that.

If you're talking about construction adhesive, any hardware store, maybe even walmart. I'd give it 24 hours to cure.

That is a truly ingenious idea. Kudos dude . Please post some pics of what they look like when painted .
I am definately thinking of using this technique for making a vehicle which has just begun to explode, with flames starting to come out from tears and rents in the metal.

Very nice! Much easier than fiddling around with GS and the like. This will be a cool technique for making dangerous terrain ruins and the like.
As an aside, another good trick to doing fire is to put extender in your paint, and do all the shading and highlighting (or anti-highlighting really) while it is still wet, so the colors blend and mix as you add them in. Makes for a smoother transition as well as adding some chaos to the flames so they look more natural.

I didn't use "No more nails", I used "hard as nails" and it worked just fine to sculpt fire, although the end result looks a little different that what's above. It was harder to make the flame wide or spreading out, I could only make them taper to a point with the stuff I was using, but it still looks like fire after painting. I bet any glue with a high strength and a low viscosity would work. Many caulks would probably work, as well.
This is an awesome idea, and worked great for the extra stuff on my Salamanders.

All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.
