I am not really sure where the idea came from, but a bit of inspiration hit me and I concocted some "grot tanks" with Zzap Guns to be my Big Gunz battery. I will be building the third one soon. Here is what I have so far:

I had a blast making them from a Wartrak back section, new Grot Turret, BW Zzap Gun, plasticard, and a few other odds and ends! All the additional crew for the battery will have tools and fixy bitz!

Let me know what you think.
Jeff

Those are awesome. Grot powered tanks and such bring me back to the days when Orks were really funny, instead of hardassed semi funny. Nice job and a good idea

Wow, that's a great idea and a perfect way to use those parts. I already have a normal Zap gun battery so maybe I won't steal this idea

Jeff, would it be possible to get a shot of one next to a Chimera, Russ, or Rhino? I just wanna see the size comparison before I spend the money on Buggies to make my Imperial Guard version of the TALON robots.

Where'd you get the bitz for tools and 'fixy gubbinz'? Nice work. I'd think about giving them a Blood Axe affiliation (well, the Runtherds at least, I guess the grotz aren't really in a clan).

I still have a handful of the old ork assistants and mek boy assistants (the one with the toolbox was my personal favorite). Never knew about the resin fixy gubbinz though.

Well done! This looks like it would be a great way to integrate Big Gunz into a KOS list.

Yeah, I will try and get some pics this evening of them next to a Russ and Chimera.

Thanks for all the kind words guys! I had a blast coming up with these. For the third one in the battery, I am going to try and take some step by step pictures and put a more detailed tutorial on my blog.

Great idea, consider it looted!

The best part is, with magnets, you could swap out the turrets for different big gun types. You could also make skorcha wagons this way, maybe with the giant flamethrower from the Land Raider Redeemer kit.

If I didn't have a bunch of cannons to assemble (which, ironically, I think that I got in trade with Jeff), I would do something similar. Instead, I'm going for pirate-looking deck guns.

Those '2nd edition tool bits' are something else!

Anyone have a collection of them (on sprue even?) that they could take a picture of and share?

Where did they come from?

Anyone know where to get similar bits today?

As well as Mad Doc bits?

Thanks!

the tools are from the 2nd Ed 'battlewagon' kit - sort of a cross between a 5th Ed trukk and battlewagon. I too have some of those tools sitting in my bits box, simply coz I never thhrow any cool bits away

Fantastic work.

I'd take it a step further and do up wartrakks/buggies in this way, rather than just zzap guns which to be honest, aren't the best option in the ork list.

Actually, what is the size comparison compared to an ork bike, these would be a great (albiet expensive) unit of bikers.

i love this idea
ive had the old trakk's laying about doing nothing for years, allways thought about using them for something, maybe some "grot tanks" might be in order

keep up the amazing work.
