...But hypothetically
I know that in WAR online where scarring on the character models is fairly common, Orc/k (Ork henceforth) scars were pretty consistent with our human friends in that they appear as a non ork flesh tone, almost brownish. From a modeling standpoint i cant for the life of me find a picture of an artist who has used scarring on an ork model. It seems very common to use the chop shop style stitching but as for long past wounds im coming up short.
So the question is what is the general consensus? A dark flesh looking scar (brown, as seen in WAR), a darker shade of ork hide, or a pinkish shade similar to how some human scars manifest?
Sidequestion: Given that Orkoid blood is red, is it reasonable to assume their bruising patterns and color would be consistent with ours?
*I know this could fall into the fluff forum but as its being asked to directly influence painting technique i figured it would be ok.

I think pink scars look good and a nice contrast to green skin.
I'd take aesthetics over really hard fluff any day!!!

A dark brown would be best. As Orks are plants essentially, it would make sense their tissue would behave like it. A plant that is cut open will turn brown and die around the cut. For an ork the wound wouldn't kill him, but the plant-y part would likely die a bit in that area.
And a rsuty brown can also look like dried blood, which can also be acceptable.

@OP are you asking the color to be visually appealing, or according to fluff?
In fluff ork blood are very dark green to pretty much *gloss black . And the cuts are often dark angels green.
But artistically , well i dunno ork boggles my mind when i try to think of them as fungus.

Why yes! Its a little early to be thinking paint but being able to visualize a finished product helps me.

Really? I always thought it was red, i could swear there was a Q/A or a chapter approved in an old WD that clarified this. I think it may have even come from Chambers.

They said its the algae contained in their blood that makes it green. But.... i bet they just say it for the convenience of having red paint
as tatoo / war paint makes them more appealing :"P

Rofl well this thread certainly backfired as its raised more questions than answered them! I feel like my whole world is crashing down. I dont know what to believe in anymore!
Seriously though, if thats the general consensus about the ork blood looking more like darker ichor that would contrast really well with the red "human" blood that will be inevitably be spattered everywhere. Im still stuck on that article though, ill have to dig tonight.

I'd say scars would look good in dark green/brown.
Depends what sort of shade skin you are using.

For what it's worth, my (older) larger scars are no longer pink, but a very pale shade of my own skin tone. It's even more apparent in the summer, when my skin tans but the scar tissue stays very pale.
In that vein, I'd say darker orks with very very light green scar tissue? Maybe that won't have the visual punch, so I've voted for pink. Contrast creates interest and draws focus.

Ive actually seen some really good artists make conversions on orks. one...I dont remember who did it, but someone made a REALLY cool warboss on a bike, the bike was red, and the boss had a REALLY sweet chainsword looking thing for his weapon. ANYWAYS that one had pink scars and even the veins were pinkish and I have to say that looked REALLY awesome IMO

I go heavy on the thraka green to make it looked scarred and dead, usually over snot green which is my highlight. Multiple coats of it will definitly get the job done.

Ok so one person thinks like me about red blood. Those that don't, how would you think you would paint open wounds or exposed muscle tissue? I would think that the color of a creatures blood would dictate the hue of the internal tissues.

I used liche purple for my "old scars" and I'm pretty pleased with the result. Check out my runtherd here http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/229309.page I would go with pink for fresh ones as well, though.

I would say a dark brown maybe like a raw ubmer which is sort of greenish. Also maybe a grayish green like a Baltic green. I also view orks as having green blood red blood is for umies panzers and stunties.

Darker Green.
I remember in one of the first editions of Gorkamorka it explained that the reason the skin of nobs and bosses was darker than lowly boys was that, not only does it darken with age, but ork scar tissue is very dark green.
Other than that, orks have red blood (high levels of haemoglobin, much higher than in human blood) but its the algae underthair skin that makes them appear green.

I voted for pink, just for the contrast and aesthetics.
Gotta agree with Teek that very pale green for old scars would look best. Maybe put some tiny slivers of GS on the mini to raise the area and give a nice scar tissue effect too?
