I was playing a game today with my Orks, and my trukks moved 13" (red paint job). They're fast vehicles, open-topped. Since I can move 13", deploy out 2" and then run/fleet forward (or assault) I presumed that I could shoot as well. Apparently that isn't a case?
My opponent showed me in the rulebook where vehicles moving at cruising speed cannot have models shooting out of them. And here I thought I was getting a freebie!
Now I'm confused: If I can't move 13" and shoot my models out of the transport, why is it that I can move 13", deploy out of the vehicle, and THEN shoot? And then assault? =p
I happen to be in love with a 27" assault.

Because that's what the rules say. It's a balance issue to keep vehicles from being mobile pillboxes.

Ghaz has it.
It pretty much forces you to deploy your unit out of the vehicle if you want them to shoot after having moved that fast. So, for balance they will be exposed to some degree of retalitory danger after they shoot.

Balance or oversight. Doesn't matter, the rules are clear.

In one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 6", kill a few guys with his flamer, assault 6", kill two more guys with his bayonet, flee 12", regroup when assaulted, react 6", kill one more guy with his bayonet and then flee another 12".
So in one game turn an Imperial guardsman can move 42" and kill more than 5 people. At the same time a Chimera at top speed on a road can move 18"... |
