Rather than invoke some serious threadomancy, I'm starting a new thread to update the progress I've made on these guys. Hopefully they will be done in time for the new guard codex so I can finally run some rough riders in my iceworld army!

For now, here's a closeup pic showing the re-sculpting I've done on the face. Most significantly, I've added in the sabre-fangs that were missing from the last round. (Thanks to Savnock for the insistance upon fangs!)

Looks like a tauntaun met a Llama and had sabertooth babies.
Awesome sculpt work. Familiar enough animal features while being 'fantasy' enough to look like an alien breed.

Thats the first thing I thought of when I saw it, a rabid tauntaun! anywho, I agree tho thats a really nice sculpt. Thats gunna make bad ass rough riders on an ice world. Ill watch this one for sure. also.... theres a new IG codex comming out?

The plan is to have him finished in time for the new codex. I am salivating for the new guard book, and want this guys on the table for the new book!

Ha! Excellent! Well guys, I really am going to try my best to get a rider, harness, and weapons sculpted right quick. The plan is to have a separate rider, who will be after my own design (no desire to anger GW) but should fit in with my Valhallans and Steel Legion, even though he will not really be made after either of those two "patterns". The current design is for tall riding boots, a mid-thigh coat, and either a Russian style fur cap, or helmet, goggles and rebreather. I may sculpt a couple different heads for the first rider, if I get ambitious.

February is going to be slow month sculpting, but March should pick up a bit. I'll get Dakka posted!

(And thanks again for the comments, they keep me going. (Though crits are welcome too!))

Well, excuse the threadomancy, but I finally finished this guy and had him cast by Troll Forged miniatures. Looking over my WIP threads and pictures, I think this guy was just under 3 years in development. Let's hope the next one takes less time!

And there you have it! Ed over at Troll Forged really did an awesome job with the molds - something that would have caused me no end of frustration and probably never have worked out so nicely. The model has options for shotgun, lance, and three different rider heads.

Now to sculpt some more squad members.
