Ok, I'm trying to paint up some bloodletters. My painting is pretty bad imho. I have been having some trouble specifically with the scales and trying to make different effects work properly. First off, I'd like the red to fade into the horns to make it look more like they grew out of its head. I also want the sword to fade from white to orange to red to black or something like that. From what I understand this effect can be achieved through blending. I watered down the red and tried to pull it across the horns, but I dont think it worked too well as I can still see strong lines of red.

The scales I'm just not sure I'm doing it right or maybe my brush has too much paint on it, but when i try to highlight the scales on the back I can't seem to keep it just on the tops of the bumps. I've tried dry brushing it, but I'm not sure that's really the effect I'm looking for.. I'll have to try again with a second test model.

Also, any advice on how you guys paint up blood letters would be appreciated too. Right now I have them primed with chaos black then based in mechrite red. Then I washed only the recesses and scales with devlan mud. Highlighted up from there with red gore then once more with red blood. I plan to do extreme highlights with blazing orange maybe but I kind stopped before that cuz the various problems I'm seeing on this test model.

I know this would be easier with pics, so it can be tough to tell exactly what's going on. Monday I should be able to get my hands on a camera so I'll have to post back later.

Thanks!
