About to get paid one of these days and seeing as my Heresy flame has been rekindled, I've decided to order VULKAN LIVES, the Unremembered Empire, Scars and Legacies of Betrayal to keep me happy for some time to come, or to collect dust on the shelf once I get annoyed with Unremembered Empire, like I did with Know No Fear, blegh.

Scars is excellent, one of the best in the series. I like Unremembered Empire but it has mixed reviews, although I really liked Know No Fear so...

In my opinion, Abnett does still write good stuff, but he's so overrated these days. For me KNF was a slog, the fifth Forge World book did a much better job of telling about that day on Calth than the novel did. I fear that Unremembered Empire may be more of the same, as it is just filler for the main arc, as they've already in the novels, several times now, mentioned that it is indeed an unremembered venture.

I do have high hopes for Scars, as I really liked the Path of Heaven and how it concluded the White Scars arc in a most satisfying way.

That is something they're building towards, as throughout the White Scars arc Calas Typhon has been absent, so much so that Mortarion is making it a personal quest to track the git down in time for the final battle on Terra.

There should also probably still be one Thousand Sons book in the making, that shoves their legion into what they are today.

But other than that, the final pieces are slowly (or should I say.. fething finally!) moving in place, with just the Blood Angels absent from Terra now on the Loyalist side, unless I missed something.

I find most of the White Scars stories so similar and boring - speed, speed, bikes, speed, the storm, speed, bikes, khan, speed, bikes, speed.

There, I just wrote a WS novel

The Path of Heaven may surprise you then, as it puts them in a situation where they must decide to stick to what they've always done, laughing all the while, or do what others expect them to do.

Chris Wraight made WS more interesting [at least 30k ones] so both Scars and Path of Haeven are not typical SW read [yet IMO not that great as many claim].

The White Scars stuff is still way more interesting than say, Battle for the Abyss, Nemesis or Prospero Burns. Ugh.

Agreed about the first 2 but not Prospero Burns, which I think is one of better HH books.

Prosperous Burns killed much of my interest in the series. Fear to Tread delivered the coup de grace.

What's so bad about it? I've read some excellent reviews

EDIT: regarding Fear to Tread, I've read Prospero Burns, hated the first half, loved the second half...

The actual title drop doesn't happen until the end, in proper "Dan rushing through the end" style. A Thousand Sons is so much better IMHO.

A Thousand Sons did spend a bit too much time just waffling around with universe-y stuff. It was mostly good, but I almost lost interest at a few points early on. Magnus also killed my favourite character near the end -_- Prospero Burns was very meh, although I read that awhile ago. I quite liked Nemesis tbh, although it had basically no relevance on the rest of the plot.

Not going to lie, A Thousand Sons was a slow burner, but to me it did pay off big time.

Chris Wraight is the new wonderboy of the HH series. Path to Heaven was the first truly great book of the series I've read in a long time.

Are any of the Age of Sigmar books worth reading? I'm getting more into AoS as a game and would love to read some of it. Should I get the campaign books or novels?

I would definitely recommend AoS campaign books over novels anytime.

.. .. so ... any sign of this MMPB version of Deathfire anywhere...?

Asked -- again -- on the BL page but no response yet....

Interesting, Amazon has it down for release on the 27th...

hey look !

A book !

Crusaders of Dorn

A Space Marine Battles anthology

Seven tales of the crusading sons of Rogal Dorn see them take on dangerous aliens in infernal regions, and wage total war on Armageddon – the xenos won't know what hit them.

READ IT BECAUSE
It's a top quality collection of Guy Haley's Black Templars short stories, gathered together and placed in chronological order for the first time, including a brand new story.

THE STORY
For ten millennia, the Black Templars have continued the Great Crusade, remaining true to the Emperor's dream of a galaxy free of the alien, the traitor and the mutant. One of the few Chapters to venerate the Emperor as a god, they strive always to follow His example and secure His Imperium for all mankind. This anthology showcases seven tales of the sons of Sigismund, including an exploration of High Marshal Helbrecht's first crusade, and three stories from the Third War for Armageddon.

Includes the short stories Circle of Honour, The Black Pilgrims, Helbrecht: The Crusader, The Uncanny Crusade, The Glorious Tomb, Only Blood and Season of Shadows.

be getting this.

Glorious Tomb is my favourite 40k audio, very well done indeed.
