Ok dakka, I am going to be using a small squad of fallen dark angels as my chosen for my next 40k progect.

I was thinking of using DA Vets for the base modles but colors I am at a loss for. I was thinking of leaving the armor DA Green but giving them darker robes or something. I want people to know they are fallen, and not just some DA proxies. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

The armour would be black, as it was the original colour of the legion.

also remember that dnot all fallen angels are heretics.....

i would also suggest trying to convert boltguns or get hold of some 2nd ed or even RT bolters...

anyhoo good luck.... and remmber beakes or closed helms or even maxmimus helmet sfrom black templars sprue

The Imperium of Man is able to traverse the Warp with difficulty when their Emperor concentrates from his golden life support machine and lights the way. Unfortunately, because the Emperor has the attention span of the average 5-year-old Pokemon fanboy, this means that many an unfortunate Imperial ship has had the WTF WHERE'D THE LIGHTS GO experience, which in the Warp is invariably fatal.

Seems to me like a simple Chaos / Dark Angels plastics kit-bash coupled with a battered and chipped colour scheme.

I know Fallen are always shown to be wearing robes, but technically Dark Angels didn't introduce robes into their wardrobe until after "The Fall". The robes are worn only by inner circle members who know the chapter's dark secret. So why would Fallen wear the robes?

Although it may be a break from the fluff (which is unfortunate, as I tend to build mostly fluffy armies and make them competative) it definatly points to them being fallen. Otherwise if you just were to paint them black then people would confuse them with Black Legion or another ordinary CSM.

What I'm trying to say is that most people will recognize them as Fallen if they see the trademark DA robes (besides in my case I'm using them as chosen of I want them to be different).

When I did a band of the fallen, I used standard CSM models, but trimmed off all of the horns, spikes, and other chaos marks and used standard SM pads. Then I painted them black with white DA chapter badges.

No the inner circle has always had robes even before they became space marines.

Also note, all the Fallen Angels were seperated. If they come together in a band like this, they should look the part. I mean, it would have taken a lot of time to track down 5 of some couple hundred people in the vastness of the universe. They'd have adventures, battle scars, and weapons all their own. Like I said in the last thread Casper, try to make them tell a story. They aren't so much a squad of Battle Brothers as a group of individuals with common enemies and only old ties to hold them together.

In the older fluff for Dark Angels, such as the Deathwing expansion for the original spacehulk, they are pictured as being old north-american (no, not the immigrants that moved there the last 500 years) with a lot of feathers, plaited hair, beads, darker skintones, etc etc. Somehow that look was lost the last 10 years, and now they look just like any other generic spacemarine chapter. Only "official" thing left is the small feather beneath the weapon arm of the DA terminator in the GW-online store. Maybe you could use some of that for inspiration. Could be nice to break up the caucasian future of 40k :-)

Not true, Disciples of Caliban (Horus Heresy Novel) has DA wearing robes. They were monk-knights so wore robes over their armor.

Oye, I hate hearing people use BL books as reference for fluff. BL is never considered 100% canon, though I believe I was told the Ragnar/Space Wolf series is considered canon. They are horrible with their fluff, constantly adding stuff that occurs from other time periods and such. I've seen Mark 6/7 gear on their books when it shouldn't be, descriptions of weaponry that is still non-existant, and more. Please never use a BL book as reference for fluff.

"From the fires of Betrayal unto the blood of revenge we bring the name of Lorgar, the Bearer of the Word, the favored Son of Chaos, all praise be given to him. From those that would not heed we offer praise to those who do, that they might turn their gaze our way and gift us with the Boon of Pain, to turn the Galaxy red with the blood, and feed the hunger of the Gods."

The lead designer of warhammer online have clearly stated that "the warhammer world don't have canon, it has cannons!". And elaborated this to explain that the main rule is "is it fun?" and that enjoying a game is much more important than following the lore. I imagine that something similar is also true for warhammer 40k, but don't take my word for canon.

Where ever the Emperor needs his eyes

If only Inner Circle members are allowed to wear robes than why are Company Vets wearing robes? I was under the impression that Company Vets were the best a company had to offer, Marines that had not yet been made members of the Deathwing thus not members of the inner circle.

The only thing I hate about the Cypher model is his bolt pistol, it disgusts me. But that is GW's fault not yours.

The covers are not representative of the information given inside the pages.

It is a novel from the Horus Heresy storyline. If there is anything considered canon from the novels, I would think these would be.

Though, tbh, calling anything "canon" when referring to a game universe that changes everytime a novel/rulebook/codex comes out is pretty laughable.

Besides, its a big friggin universe. One persons interpretation is just as valid as anothers.

Personally, I would use Black armor, DA Green Robes, and make them as unique to each other as the characters from the BloodQuest Graphic Novel.

Bam, said the lady!
