Hey guys,

Well basically I am starting my high elf army for this years GT and I was wondering if anyone had any good tips and advice for painting high elves, or in fact and good tutorials and color recipes for painting them.

Any and all help will be appreciated.

Cheers, Matt

High Elves are known for their neat spotless clean white robes . What color you choose to shade the white with will greatly determine how well it goes with the 2ndary color.

I was thinking of not painting them with white robes tbh, primarily because my skills at painting white are none existent unless i use white primer, which i am reluctant to do, if i did do that i would probably just spray em white, then badab wash them then go over with white again to get it as clean and crisp as possible.

Its the accent color that is giving me the most problem, being as i am going for Caledor I was thinking red, does anyone have an good color recipes for either of the 2, my searches on the internet are coming up with nothing and the workshop website is particulary useless as always.

K , so your robes would be red then? Thats a very rich and majestic color . What color are you planning for their armor? the ornate mithril with light blue wash?
Or perhaps burnished gold? it would look really well with the red.

Especially the darker richer gold will be great contrast with their pale face complexion.

Aye its mainly to go with the fact that in 2000pts I have 2 Dragons and 2 units of Dragon Princes, I want the army to have a Caledorian theme running through it primarily (that and who doesnt love dragons)

Armour is as of yet indecided, I think for my basic troops I should stick with silver, don't think I will bother too much with the blue wash I have never been a massive fan of it, I can see the appeal but I just have always preferred my elves to not have the mithril look to them more a finely tempered steel if they are coming from Caledor instead.

So I think it should be combo of red and silver, and probably throw in some blue for things like sashes on the archers etc.

Only question is where do I even begin painting red robes.

Here i photo shopped some red you wanted , i would do the base of the red with scab red , and even brown wash for the deepest folds.
then some macharite red.

Thanks Luna thats pretty much perfect.

Hmm so Scab Red base, Mech Red for first layer, then a Brown Wash, then some Gore, Gore/Blood then Blood Highlights?

Think that would work for my robes?

Im not sure tbh , i dont have habits of washing over my high lights unless they are close to white.

I would do : scab red + brown wash for the fold lines 10% covered , scab red for the folds 30% covered , then your common reds for the rest of your 60% to be covered

Adrift within the vortex of my imagination.

I would visit Ulthuan.net, go to the painting forum there and browse down until you find the armt you like the look of. Then PM the army's owner if the thread is not recent if you have further questions. The website is cut down, it used to be far bigger as asur.org

You can get some nice ideas there or linked from there:
