All military campaigns should be named this way, that would be hilarious: "the Malayan Bother", "the Vietnam Disturbance", "Upset in the Pacific"...

Potentia

An Inquisition short story

When a murderous cultist inexplicably turns himself in to the Inquisition, his acolyte-interrogator seeks to learn the reason for the surrender.

READ IT BECAUSE
It's an unpredictable tale of darkness and deceit with a shocking twist.

THE STORY
Within every noble intention there lurks the potential for corruption, with every pious ideal the possibility of falling into darkness... When a murderous cultist inexplicably turns himself in to the Inquisition, his acolyte-interrogator seeks to learn the reason for the murderer's surrender but ends up receiving a very different lesson...

It's been pretty awesome, surprisingly so. I wouldn't have guessed they would hold so much of my HH love. The whole malcador, grey knights thing grabs more though, closely followed by the alpha legion.

To me though, it is a nice and compact arc that doesn't stretch things out, actually gives us good drama to work with (where does the Legion stand with regards to its loyalties) and most of the characters introduced are actually pretty damned likeable for a change. Even more so because they are assigned a bean counter who is trying her best to make them more effective and they actually listen to her, going so far as giving her a honorific title and treating her with respect.

I also finally got around to reading Unremembered Empire, which was okay and could've done with more of Kurze being a total badass. All we need now is for Sev to make a comeback.

Scars and Path of Heaven, but the short story Brotherhood of the Storm before Scars is a nice intro to the storyline too (I didn't read it until after Scars so it's not essential, but very good).

There's also the short story Brotherhood of the Moon and the audio drama Grey Talon, which both take place in between the main novels.

I personally have really enjoyed the Garro audiobooks, they show sides of the Imperium that you just don't really see in the HH novels, in a similar way to seeing a lot of civilian life in the Eisenhorn books. Shield of Lies in particular I enjoyed, both for the interesting outcome (which I'm quite chuffed about correctly guessing fairly early in the story) and for the display of Imperial civilian life and realities on Terra. Well, several thousand feet above Terra on one of the hovering sky-cities...

Wrapped up Vengeful Spirit last night, it was okay. It had its ups and its downs for sure, a few good lines as well.

"Go on then, take your best shot."

If anything the novel was an excellent send off for...

Spoiler:
Iacton Qruze, who proceeded to curbstomp four Luperci without any effort, even schooling them as he did so.

Now then, on to the Damnation of Pythos and after that, Deathfire, meaning I'll have sadly burned through all the legacy format novels to date, meaning a looooooooong wait is ahead once more.

I am a big fan of the Spoilered character, just a cool and interesting person, especially their backstory.

He got gak done, to say the least.

Though I also liked the bits where Samus got whipped again, which is quickly becoming a recurring theme and the Space Wolf biting out the throat of a possessed marine and noting that it showed fear during its last moments.

Corax on Saturday, nice to see BL putting up a brief reminder of what he had been up too. At times I'm completely lost on a character or legions past actions. There has been a lot of comings and goings in this series. A good short run through of everything that had happened to date would be a real treat, and I mean short one full scalp page and not a word more!

Alas and woe and all that, I'm already on the legacy format of Deathfire as of tonight. When can we expect the next legacy release to happen?

Here's hoping Deathfire will be a bit better than the Damnation of Pythos, which was a bloody slog to get through, damn it.

I've also got both Tallarn novella's at long last (it only took them six weeks to send it from the UK to my place, wahey!)

Deathfire feels like a series of novellas stitched together, but it's a masterwork compared to Pythos.

Well, that's a relief, as Pythos felt more like a useless tie-in to that Apocalypse book.. :(

Pythos was indeed awful. I have no idea at all how they even came up with the idea for it. It may have worked if the story had been condensed into an eshort or quick read but as a novel I was just left wondering why??

Absolutely loved praetorian of dorn though, great read. Jumped around a little but a good fun read.

Deathfire was an awful book.

Here's the spoiler, so you don't have to suffer through it.

Spoiler:
Vulkan returns to life and is sane again, on his homeworld after being transported back through the Ruinstorm. You have to suffer though several hundred pages of Salamanders getting mad at each other, then making up, all the while hollering "Vulkan Lives!" every 5 paragraphs. Oh, they fight the Death Guard too. Seriously, don't buy this book.

Could someone send me a PM about what happened to the Sisters of Silence? Thank you.

I skipped Pythos. I think that is the one book that's bought on my decline in buying the series. I used to collect them all now only get ones that take my fancy.

I really enjoyed the Knights Errant parts, but the rest wasn't so good in my opinion. I think it would have been better it being split into two and giving Qruze, Loken and the Knights in Grey more action time aboard the Spirit. Maybe having it as a story in the Garro series, just minus Garro There just seemed a lot of dumb stuff in it.
