Hey guys, this is just a silly idea I had. Here you can post pics or tell us about some of the worst models you have ever painted! I got this idea after I found one of my horribly painted dwarf slayers. This is mostly just for the fun of it so you can share things like that or really just get it off your chest. Think of it as model gamers anonymous.

You will need to upload the picture to somewhere like imageshack or photobucket before people can see it, you can't link straight from your PC.

On topic:

These gaurdians were some of my first models, I hate the way I painted them and have since then changed the paint scheme similar to what the gun platform looks like (which actually looks pretty good). Never again will I paint gold/silver units.

actually, the gold and silver look doesnt look SO bad, but it doesn't seem like it suits eldar too well. Maybe a space marines chapter or something of that sort.

I don't have a picture of them, but my first models were in the 3rd Edition paint set, 4 Bolter marines, and 1 Sgt, all like 2 piece models. The Sgt got such a heavy dose of Primer that his face and chest were washed of all detail and completely smooth. That was when i was about 13... 20 now

still have the models because i think its hilarious.

AW MAN I hate it when that happens I have a dwarf slayer with that problem, its because I kept repainting him over and over and his face now has no detail besides his nose and I was really enjoying painting him

I don't have a picture (since they have been lost to the sands of time), but my first Spehss Mahreens were pretty horrendous. Mostly black armor, red shoulder pads, and the edges of the shoulder pads were trimmed with Shining gold. The boltgun had a nice, splotchy dry brush of boltgun metal. The Vehicles were black with a grey drybrushing.

ugh, the first model I ever did was this Grey Knight.

I thought it was alright, but compared to what I do now it's friggin horrible!

Apply some washes to that GK and that is pretty much the level of my painting skills

The worst painted model that I had (I think I stripped it and chopped it up for parts it was so bad) was a genestealer that my brother painted.

I think he used red house paint on the hands/arms and a blue house paint on the body, with gold somewhere on there too. It was a giant blob and looked terrible

Though we were quite young at the time.

Here is one of my very first minis I ever painted:

I was seven at the time and figuring that I'm almost 24 now means that it was about...16-17 years ago.

The silver was a humbrol metallic silver while the red was some old poster paints I had lying around. I remember I had named the chapter Diamond Marines. Remember this was at a time when World Eaters were painted bright orange.

Armies:
(CSM/HH) - Iron Warriors; Death Guard; World Eaters; Night Lords
IG - Vestfalian Expeditionary
Force (Solar Auxilia - HH)
SM - Blades of Inaros (Homebrew)
DE - Kabal of Ouroboros

I recently tried to redo one of my original SM bolter guys, and sadly it was too late. I had painted him with model car paint, and he turned out entirely metallic, and the paint sealed itself, so i can't get it off. As for how he was painted imagine an entirely metallic ultramarine with a metallic green base painted with a craft brush *shudder*

Just my 2 cents

YES! Chrome and blue FTW!!!!!

My worst was when I first got into playing for real I was Chaos. The paint scheme I went with was a BACKWARDS Iron warriors scheme. So gold everywhere, with silver trim. You all know how bad gold turns out when your a new painter, so imagine that..... EVERYWHERE!

Twin.44 your GK really isnt bad at all. I think you just posted on here in the hopes that everyone says "oh that doesnt suck!"

In 1992, I got into minis by playing a demo of Space Hulk at a game/comic convention- a friend & I split on the box set then & there. Shortly after, I found a set of original plastic Space Marines at a Waldenbooks (why they had them, I'll never know) and painted them up along with the Space Hulk figs. All I knew of models/minis at that point was from building model cars, so I busted out my Testor's high gloss and went to work. All the terminators have since been stripped & repainted for my SM army, but I've kept around a few marines & genestealers to remind me of my roots.

My first marines- high gloss Testors is bad...

[Thumb - P7240417.JPG]
These genestealers may have been the first minis I ever painted- they looked mighty snazzy on the Space Hulk board in '92 ;)

At least the paint has stayed on well for 17 years...

God some of these minis are older than I am, like those 'stealers.

My first paint job was on some fire warriors. I still have them, they were white with blue soft armor, red eyes, and purple details. Primed white.
They didn't look all that bad really, they were just very, very plain. From the front they looked white with a little red dot and a purple shoulder pad emblem and a blue arm, from the back they were half blue half white.

My first 40k paintjobs were on some Space Hulk Terminators and the 3rd ed Space Marine Captain. The terminators have since been stripped and now serve in my vintage Crimson Fists army, while the commander is languishing in a box in Connecticut with his poorly painted brethren. I just caked on layers of Iron Wind Metals paints, and he ended up looking like a pastel Ultramarine. I go back home in August; I'll try to get a picture then.

My first models were SM Assault Marines. I was young when I painted them and had purchased them from a model shop around the corner. I had no idea what a base coat was, and I was using a combo of testors and water-base paint. The final result was streaky and thick at the same time, it was awful. Additionally, I though battle damage would be cool, so I stabbed the models with my hobby knife, drilled little holes in them, and gave them a healthy splash of bright red testors. Man those things were horrible, but I still have them.

This is where I keep my failed models. Only it isnt a cupboard, it is a box that sits in my closet. Occasionally I rummage through it and rip salvageable pieces off the models and use them in basing.

Why not, I'll get on the Shame Train

A little context
This was one of my first conversions, way back from the dim dark days of 2nd Ed. My main opponent at the time played Eldar, hence the trophy - designed more to annoy him than for any kind of background reason.

Shall we explore the travesty a little more?
  • The 'gem' (meant to be a captured spiritstone) probably fell off one of my sister's toys at some point, and was more than likely pink, hence the paintjob.
  • The streamers from the bannerpole are magnesium strips I pinched from school during that experiment everyone does when they burn magnesium.
  • The eldar corpse was the old 'everyone has the same pose' 2nd Ed guardian, which was missing its arms and a head. I replaced the arms with cunningly carved bits of sprue - I bet you couldn't even tell, right?
  • Yes, the bolt pistol is held on with straps made of paper, no I don't know how he's supposed to reach it either.

Oh god, WHY MUST YOU REMIND OF MY EARLY WARHAMMER DAYS?

My first painted models were from the old 5-man/6-paint starter set, and since it was before the Macragge one, I'm guessing it was the third edition one? Anyways, I had painted up 3 of them as smurfs, and one plain marine and the missile launcher in a scheme made up of yellow and white *groan* with some parts painted green, and silver X's on their shoulder pads. The normal marine even had blood pouring down him from his head and his knee -__-

The funny thing is, I still have the two "clown marines" as people have called them, in my DA army, along with a few of my Macragge marines. I don't want to repaint them, so instead I just made up a story about how my army is actually a company that recruits from different chapters, and they have to earn their DA armour.

I'll try to get pics sometime, if I can get my hands on a decent camera....

Although I can't put pictures on (yet), I can add to this discussion.
My worst model was one my (friend?) made to count as an Inquisitorial Advisior. It consisted of the following:

    Head: Space Marine Sergeant Head
    Torso:Space Marine MK 8 Armour
Left arm: Eldar Storm Guardian CCW Arm
Right arm: Eldar Storm Guardian Shuriken Pistol
    Legs: Ordinary Necron Legs

Needless to say, this model is the bane of my hobby. He now rests in the bottom of my spare parts box until I can be bothered to do something useful with him/
