I was wondering what will happen to Vassal when new codex's come out?

It would be ok with Space wolves where a Captain can be a count as special character but what about Necrons, where there possibly going to be entire new units?
How will Vassal cope with 6th edition, with no-one to update it?

My understanding of the matter is that the Vassal project is just fine, but the Vassal 40k project is currently dead in the water.

So unless you happen to find some secret group of rogue Vassal 40k developers, there aren't going to be any updates to accommodate new codices and rules.

Vassal got shut down by GW. I'm personally not happy about it, but GW has a right to defend their IP.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

You can still play online and I downloaded it recently. A quick google search and I found it, so its still about.

Well, sure. And people can go find all sorts of other abandoned software in various places, but that isn't going to magically produce updates for that software.

Some random person's Vassal 40k mirror isn't going to change anything.

Yep, they're still completely stuffed and the current software is going to be redundant soon.

so I just found out what vassal 40k is. If you can still download it, can you still play people online? or is it just the program with no online play? Can you play against the comp?

You can still play people, the Servers still exist. You cannot play the Comp, as the rules aren't programmed in, you have to know them yourself.

It's fun. It's full of the YMDC Gits, but still allows for some playtesting and pass the time. Most of the regulars are pretty cool.

nice, i think I'll download it and try it out. Do you need any particular program to run it? Winzip to open it or anything?
I'm a little technologically challenged....

Nope. Works pretty well. It's a Java/Sprite based program? Not a techie. Kind of like old school AOL Neverwinter nights with better sprites.

If you are technologically challenged then I can safely say you should probably avoid vassal 40k. It is not an overly intuitive system and therefore has kind of a steep learning curve and can be especially daunting to people who aren't that savvy with programs that don't walk you through things.

Yeah. Make sure you ask or let those know you are new. I run under "AJ" - you can ask for me if you see me.
