This is really helpfull. But I have a question about your ratios.
Your first layer you said 2:1 water:paint. When I do that I don't get anywhere near as thick a layer as you have. What am I doing wrong?

I use dropper bottles so my measurements are by drops. It's really accurate. If you are dipping in pots and then dipping in water to make your ratios that may be the problem. Other than that you could always try 1:1.. In the first layer you are just trying to make a wash out of the DA green.

It's really nice seeing instructions being performed instead of just text on a screen.
Nice job, and I look forward to seeing more of them.

Awesome paint job. I play Salamanders as well, so I was excited to see this.
However...your paint job is just a tad paler than I like mine. Just a personal thing.

Thanks guys!
The videos are being made to show fairly new people how to paint only needing brush control. No crazy techniques here.
@jimsolo- yeah everyone modifies their army to be the color they like. The person who owns the salamander I painted chose the colors. I just paint

Hmm watching the video i see that there are 2 immediate difference compared to when i paint my things....
1) your brush doesnt explode after each stroke ( mine does lol ) , infact it seems to hold its place for atleast 10 strokes ...
2) Your paint and wash seem to behave well and doesnt run all over the place when it dries.
If you can help me with these 2 problems i have, i think i can improve quite alot :<

LUNA!
1. Buy good brushes. You get what you pay for. DaVinci, WN Series 7, Blick Studio... all Kolinsky brushes. If you know how to take care of your brushes, these will last years.
2. I use VGC paints, always thin my paints 1:1, and I wipe most of the paint off my brush so I don't "flood" the paint in when I don't want it to.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Part 2 added. Tutorial in now complete. HD will take a while to process by youtube but it will be available soon enough.

That weathering kit you used. What is it made out of exactly, because it looks like some simple Make-Up Foundation, but when you put it on it looked like a oil based paint that had been almost dehydrated... lol
Very nice tutorial, I love the paint job, I think my favorite thing on the model was that subtle Zig-zag on the Leather Bolter Strap XD

OH NOOSE! you saw my little details. I also did the bullets in the clip off camera also. A lot of the little stuff is easy enough to do if you notice and like something not covered.
The Tamiya compacts look like makeup and are pretty hard. You have to rub the applicator on it pretty hard to get some color on it. But they are less messy compared to dry pigments and the effect is fast and subtle.

Really nice tutorial, seemed rather simple for a nice effect(although I am sure I would find some new way to screw it up beyond belief, practice makes perfect I guess).

How often will you be posting these little tutorials? maybe just a rough guess would do. I know you are probably still waiting for more models to show up this week. I took a look at the original thread. You have them organized by name with a number. I assume that is the queue number in which to be painted?

@ Watsabi- Yes the list is numbered by place in line. So the people that spent no time in sending me the models will have their requests done first. I plan on doing at least 2 per week if not more. Takes about a day to record. 2-4 hours to edit the clips, another hour to render the HD, and then upload to youtube takes about an hour. So 2 days per tutorial is about right. But only working on them during the week.
@DDRE- yeah Imperial Fists will come up eventually. White Scars are next so that will hit white. Another problem color people have trouble with.

Just a quick question, before I go blow some money on paints. The Vallejo Game Color paints have a better coverage then the citadel equivalents from what I've heard is this true? Also, what primer do you use to prime your models? And the final question is in the first video you are doing the dark angels green wash over the model and you do a cut, and the model is all done. I assume you are doing several coats of said wash, or is it all done in one coat? Thanks for your time.

1. Vallejo covers very well.
2. I use cheap ColorPlace Flat White paint as a primer.
3. 1 coat of DA green, then the camera comes back after the 1 coat is dry. the primer soaks up the green to a uniform finish.

Can I ask how you'd paint Salamanders tanks? I have been trying to paint a Rhino and every time I mix paints I get a slightly different shade, and on big flat surfaces it really shows up.

Still can't get over how helpful these videos are.
Is it possible for you to make part 2 a video response to part 1, and visa versa?

@ dexy- Dropper bottles give you the best measurements. If you use pots, transfer them to dropper bottles.
@medd- I guess I could. All you have to do to find the videos is to go to my channel and they are next to each other. And video response has been bugged on youtube for the past week. people have been needing to re-upload.

Not sure if it was intentional, but on the last tutorial, at the very end, it says "Slamander". Otherwise, good stuff. This is something people need to see to get them from crap to tabletop overnight, because just watching someone paint is hugely helpful. Good work, as always.

Lol, yeah it was an accident. Someone on youtube pointed that out.. Last time I try to finish up a video when tired. I also spelled Srtipts "Scrtipts" when I'm doing the Sakura Pen stuff. Ah well the purpose of the vid was served
I agree, seeing the stuff done really helps. Making tutorials for beginners is my goal now. I think it will have a great following on youtube.
Almost done with the white scars vid. Stay tuned!
