Aloha and welcome to a new battle report, and this one may just break a little ground

My friend Darren, Master Scribe and Commander of the Red Blok has come up with some novel new rules for
playing AT-43 in the Warhammer 40k universe. Attached is also a beta “Codex: Red Blok” which he would
love help to playtest. He has more AT-40k beta Codices on the horizon, stay tuned!

And without further ado…

AT-40K
In the 41st millennium, a distant star system emerged from behind a cosmic
shroud created by a warp storm. Imperial survey teams were dispatched, but the
mission attracted little attention in the heart of the Imperium. That is, until an
entire security detachment was lost in battle against an army of armed
aggressors. To the shock of Imperial observers, the enemy was organized, well
armed…and human.
An expeditionary force was immediately dispatched. What they discovered was
far beyond their imaging.
* * *
The screams echoed through the halls of the vast ship, a wail of pain and
despair that seemed to come from the depths of the man’s soul. Again and again
the howls came, dragged out of the man’s broken body by the searing probes of
his tormentor.
Capt. Takehiro James of the Storm Brigade 3rd Company watched
impassively as the Imperial inquisitor continued with the interrogation. This was
the fourth prisoner of the day to face the cranial scan and there would certainly
be more. Half the battle barge’s holding cells were filled with potential interview
subjects. If these men did not hold the answers, the Space Marines would simply
have to find more.
James suddenly focused his attention on the shackled man. The screams
of pain had turned into something else, a bellow of rage, a dying shout of hatred
with promises to never give up the fight. The Marine captain found himself
suppressing a grin of admiration. Whoever this man was, he was a soldier who
had found his mettle with his dying breath.
“Well Inquisitor,” James asked. “What have we learned?”
The hunched form of the Imperial psyker turned awkwardly. The strange,
broken man cocked his head before answering, as if to prime the answer on his
tongue.
“The same, Captain, more of the same,” the Inquisitor said. “He claims to
come from something called the Red Blok, a human collective of some sorts with
no apparent ties to the Imperium.”
“It is early, of course, in our investigation,” the psyker droned on, “but it
appears we have stumbled upon a branch of humanity that vanished from history
some 20,000 years ago and was somehow overlooked by the Emperor during his
Grand Crusade.”
“Lies, they tell nothing but lies!” erupted a voice from the back of the room.
Capt. James turned and stared into the barrel of a plasma pistol. Veteran
Sister Rook, it seemed, was not taking this well. The Battle Sister waved the gun
at the Inquisitor, seeming to dare him to speak.
“The Emperor unified humanity,” she shouted. “He brought his light into
every corner of space No one was overlooked. All that was lost was found...”
“And yet,” James interrupted, “here they are. A military force that no
Imperial source has knowledge of, equipped with arms and armor never before
seen, engaged in a battle with an alien enemy not recorded in any text anywhere
in the Imperium.”
The Space Marine turned his gaze on the Inquisitor. He realized the man
was conflicted, excited about the possibility of discovering a new branch of
humanity but terrified of heresy inherit in the situation.
“If you will permit me, I shall summarize what we know,” the Inquisitor
began. “This Red Blok appears to be engaged in a war on multiple fronts. They
have political differences with something called the United Nations of Ava, or
UNA.
“This UNA is the largest governing body these humans know of. The Red
Blok is a revolutionary force rooted in a workers movement. This is a fairly typical
circumstance in industrial societies in which class divisions lead to armed
rebellion. Historically speaking, the probability of these uprisings diminishes
exponentially once the light of Imperial governance reaches a world. In fact…”
The Inquisitor caught himself as he saw a scowl start to appear on both the
Marine and the Battle Sister.
“Anyway, the Red Blok and UNA are both threatened by at least two alien
forces, the Therians and the Karmans, and possibly more. To begin, the Therians
appear to be some sort of machine race.”
“Machines,” James interjected. “Like the Necrons?”
“Excellent question, Captain, but it seems they are not related to Necrons
at all. In fact, I have a hypothesis about their origins…” The Inquisitor trailed off,
glancing at Rook, his eyes focused on her gun.
“Go ahead, Inquisitor,” she said. “After all, we are speaking hypothetically,
correct?”
“Of course Sister Rook,” the psyker said gratefully. “One of our first
interviews was of a high ranking Red Blok officer who appeared to work in
intelligence. His testimony suggests the Therians have some kind of human
origin, perhaps tracing their lineage back to our home solar system. Just for
purposes of discussion, it is possible these aliens are actually a displaced
machine cult of the Adeptus Mechanicus.
“Their ability to manipulate technology is unlike anything we’ve seen. If
this Red Blok officer’s testimony is to be believed, then the Therians were
responsible for creating the Karman race, giving a primate-like species the gift of
intelligence.”
James turned away, stunned by the implications of what the Inquisitor was
saying.
“If that’s true, there’s only one possible explanation,” the marine said.
“These Therians must possess STC’s.”
‘That’s a reasonable conclusion, Captain,” the Inquisitor said.
“Furthermore, it’s possible each of these factions has some sort of access to
standard template constructs. Just look at their technology. Their weapons and
infrastructure have progressed on an entirely different track than anything found
in known space.”
The Space Marine glanced up at Rook, his steely gaze catching her own.
He could see that she understood their mission had just changed.
“Continue with your investigations, Inquisitor,” Rook said, the threat in her
voice apparent. “We must know who these people are. If what you say is true,
then they need more than just the cleansing truth of the Emperor’s light. They
need to be made to understand technology is a privilege to be administered by
the Imperium. If they do possess STC’s, that is a situation which must be
rectified.”
James let his gaze drift back to the body of the prisoner. He recalled the
defiance in the screams as he died. There was anger there, and strength. This,
the space marine decided, was not going to be an easy fight.

Salamanders-1750

Vulcan

4 ten man Tactical squads with Missle Launchers and Flamers. One squad has A Veteran Sargent with Power Fist and Combi-Flamer and
is mounted with Vulkan in a drop pod with death wind. Another squad has a Rhino.

One Dreadnaught with Multi-Melta in a drop pod with death wind.

5 man terminator squad with heavy flamer mounted in a land raider.

A vindicator

Red Blok- 1750

Classified (maybe Darren can add it later)

===================================================================================
Mission, Kill points. Set-up, Dawn of war. Darren wins the roll and initiative is not seized by the marines.

Turn One

The Red Blok use their search lights to take out a couple of marines while of the rest of their forces march on to the board.

The Marines return fire with little effect. They take the turn to move into position as Vulkan takes it to the heart of the Red Blok line

========================================================================================

Top of Turn Two

The Red Blok use their battle suits with flamers to decimate Vulkans squad and they engage him in combat.
The drop pod is illuminated under a hail of advanced human weaponry.

As the rest of the Salamanders support the Land Raider, the Terminators jump out but are just short
of a charge. Vulkan fights his second round of combat but can not seem to break through the armour of these enigmatic suits.

=====================================================================================

Top of Turn Three

The Red Blok Stand their ground and pour shot after shot into the Marines. If the Salamanders do not break through, they
will lose this battle. Vulkan has rolled nothing but ones and twos in his combat. Perhaps he is too amazed by this new human
technology and what it could mean to the Empire

The second drop pod arrives and the dreadnaught adds it’s fire power to the coming terminator assault. The Marines may just
be able to bring their fists down upon this new threat.

============================================================================

Top of Turn Four

The Warmachines of the Red Blok ready themselves for the Terminator assault as the dreadnaught loses both arms.
All of the Red Blok troops are destroyed but since the majority of the army are Warmachines, they are still in a strong position.

The Terminators Finally make it into combat and the tide has turned. The Red Blok has very little defense against close
combat for their Warmachines so even the armless dread as able to lend a foot to aid his brothers.

=======================================================================================

Top of Turn Five

Vulkan finally goes down just after Marines in the Rhino arrived last turn. He did his job by driving a wedge between
the two halves of the Red Blok Army. A mysterious Woman Leader counter attacks the Marines. She has a weapon
that hits like a powerfist and begins to take down marines left and right.

The other Red Blok flank has fallen. The Marines are amazed at how stubborn this army is, not to mention tough!

++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++

Final result: Marines 7, Red Blok 6. An Imperial victory, but only just!
Funfunfun. I will play against this army any time! He had me worrying big-time for the
first two thirds of the game. If my Land Raider had been taken down it would surely been a Red Blok win!

Stay tuned for more!

Next up....Karmans!

Aloha!

Interesting, but I'm of the opinion that AT-43 is the superior game system. What about a Space Marines army book for AT-43? They could be the descendants of the original Humans who took a different path than the Therians. However, this is a great work all by itself, because it gives me two reasons to collect a Red Blok army.

Ive never heard of AT before, and this gave me a rather good insight into a new game. Nice battle report...and nice codex! It looks very playable, but there are some issue with the point costs. Some of your points seem to be overprice. Dotch Yaga should cost less, as Abaddon is seen as overpriced, and he could rip it apart imo- as should a senior NCO, and the field officer (maybe). They have the general same stats as an imperial company commander, as well as wargear. They also have faction Command thingy, but I think the ccs orders are better. Also the commander is accomponied by 4 veterans.
The troops seem very good points-wise, so no queries there.
You might want to drop a few points of the Dragonovs. They resemble Guard vets, but cost much more. Same for the Kolosuss battlesuits-they seem to be able to play like terminators, however the flamer ones are 10pts more, can't deepstrike, have a lower BS, and now powerfists.
The Nakovalny Squadron is great, as is the Sierp Squadron. All in all, it seems like a good list. Look forwars to your next report

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

Thanks for the feedback folks! I hope Darren will show up later and give more responses from the perspective of the codex designer.

The Kolosuss at first glance do seem underpowered, but let me tell you , they are crazy hard to get rid of! With a toughness of 5, two wounds, a 2+ save and a 5+ invulnearable, not to mention a ws 4, they turn into a killer tar-pit unit!

This army has the shootyness of gaurd, the defense and leadership close to Marines, but without numerous powerweapons and powerfists, they need to stay out of combat. At least this is what I have seen so far.

More feed back please And have a happy TG

Sweet stuff morehammer. Can't wait for the Karmans rules. I've been interested in those guys for awhile.

Also, I think your points are fine for the army. Those Dragonov scouts seem like a good unit with the purchase of the 3 anti-tank guns. That unit could cause some serious trouble scouting ahead.

Great pictures - that battle looks like the sort that I always envisioned Warhammer to look like.

I'm going to have to investigate some of those Red Blok minis - they look awesome! Maybe use them as a IG army.

I'm not like them, but I can pretend.

Hi, author of Codex: Red Blok here. Thanks for all the feedback. Strictly speaking, I am a 40k player who started collecting Red Blok on the side, mostly because I love the models. I started this codex project about a year ago when Fantasy Flight Games had a massive AT-43 clearance sale when it decided to stop distributing the game. A lot of local players picked up bunches of units and wound up with sizable armies, big enough to play 40k. I thought it would be fun to combine the games and let those players get more use out of their AT-43 armies.

In case anyone's interested, here are some basic thoughts that went into the design process.

- AT-43, at its heart, is a shooting game. There are units capable of devastating close combat, but they are not common in the game.

- I placed the Dotch Yaga in the HQ section of the FOC because while I wanted to encourage its use, I didn't think it would be fun for anyone to face 3 of them on the table as heavy support options. I plan to do the same with similar units in other armies.

- When porting over special rules or pieces of equipment, as much as possible I attempted to find a suitable existing special rule in 40k rather than write entirely new rules. This was not always possible, but I did my best. For example, I went back and forth on the medic models in the infantry units. They are widespread in AT-43 and allow players to ignore a single casualty. This is very similar to the old apothecary rules found in the previous Space Marine codex. However, in both the new Marine codex and the new Imperial Guard codex, it seems GW is moving away from those rules, which in play were complex and time consuming. So I went with Feel No Pain and made the points cost high. Please let me know if you guys think it works.

I have the Karman codex written, but it needs to be proofed and formatted. Hopefully we'll get a game in soon and we can post another battle report. Please keep the feedback coming.

Why not use the Ork "Pain Boy" rules for medics? Seems like they'd be an instant fit...

I may be wrong here, but is that not the same as the Mpace Marine and Imperial Guard version? I belive all the Pain Boyz do is confer FNP to their unit.

By the way Darren, relative to the Red blok, what are Karmans going to be like? How will they fare against my on coming Hive Fleet Behemoth swarms

If The Red Blok can said to be (roughly) Tau+Igaurd+Marines, in that order of relevancy, what are the Karmans?

If you guys want me to, I can post the beginings of my Codex: Hestrajin(a renaming of the Cogs for 40K play).

There's no points costs yet(I haven't gottena feel yet for worth), and needs some playtesting, but could help you out with your project.

Nice - I love this kind of stuff. Really wish I had bought up some red block when they were going dirt cheap for a while there.
A few codex comments -
12" move seems out of line for the Kolossus suits - fleet and can shoot seems more reasonable, with a point reduction.
Some of the assault 2 weapons should be rapid fire. There's no reason an AK-47 type rifle should be able to move and shoot more effectively than a bolter.
I'd fit the fluff more to 40K - its a big universe - Red blok doesn't have to be a unique technology, just IG level stuff taking a bit of a different path.
I've never seen the BTR-5 model - does it exist? Actual 1/35 BTR models are great as a huge APC in 40K - maybe you could incorporate that into the codex.
Keep up the good work!

Runnin up on ya.

I can tell you've put a lot of work into this but it depresses me how much better than Tau this army is.

Six mistakes mankind keeps making century after century: Believing that personal gain is made by crushing others; Worrying about things that cannot be changed or corrected; Insisting that a thing is impossible because we cannot accomplish it; Refusing to set aside trivial preferences; Neglecting development and refinement of the mind; Attempting to compel others to believe and live as we do
