Going back to BFG I noticed on the Forge World page that there were ships for this race called the Demiurg and on Port Maw BFG forums they are apparently kick-ass in firepower just really slow.

http://www.forgeworld.co.uk/stronghold.htm

I got this from Port Maw:

" The Demiurg are a race of nomadic and somewhat reclusive beings observed primarily, if rarely, on the far eastern Fringes of the Galaxy. Whilst their ships are a common sight among the stellar atmospheres of deep-core stars of the Galactic bulge, and frequent denizens of the most bizarre
celestial phenomena, actual contact with the Demiurg is rare. From their majestic starships the Demiurg live out their solitary existence. Each vessel is known to be home to thousands of constructs and drones of the Demiurg, but the numbers of the race themselves onboard are scant. A brotherhood or three is the extent of their populations on any one ship, though how many this correlates to is at this point unknown. They are reclusive, often avoiding contact or notice of other species for many centuries and millennia only to majestically emerge from the corona of a star, appear at the edge of a star system, or slowly and methodically work their way out of the uncharted depths of dense asteroid belts and dust clouds where they reside, often unseen, for the passing of aeons. "

I remember in the BIG RED BOOK on page 119 they mentioned a whole bunch of 'younger races' like the Draxian Hegemony, Worldweave of the Noisome Reek, Church of Dracolith, and Ulumeathic League.

Who are these guys? Won't it be cool for GW to add one or more of them to the Tabletop game?

They were one touted idea for the return of a 'dwarf' race to 40k after the squats were abandoned.

It didn't come together and the tau were released instead, abandoning the space dwarf idea altogether.

Demiurg are Tau allies although they have no presence in the Tau codex.

Must be a fine alliance if you just hide somewhere ......

Or its just an 'unofficial' alliance, since it doesnt happen in both Tau codices.

Nicassar don't appear in either Tau codex, nor do Tarellian Dog Soldiers.

It's well established from other fluff sources that they are allies of Tau.

Demiurg are supposedly the source of Tau ion weapon technology.

Vespids didn't appear in the first codex. I'm not sure, but I think the codex is the only place in Tau related fluff they do appear.

It isn't possible to include all the Tau allies in the codex because it would upset game balance.

It would maybe upset those who didnt get a codex with their single race.......

But seriously, i doubt every ally contributes to the fighting or is even allowed to wield weapons.
Plus, most blue grey fans would be upset if their allies would get superior stats, because as is, they seem
to refuse to accept their actual BS .....

So we have a Tau codex full of Tau with some kroot and the valuable vespids.
I see this as a concept decision, which could change to more "star trek fed of planets", but wouldnt this ruin
the grimdark too much?

The point of the Tau was to relieve the grimdarkness. It would be stupid if they didn't upset emo players.

My idea was that Tau being bad at H2H could stick an uber H2H ally in the codex, and an uber magic ally, and end up much stronger than now. E.g. Tarellian Dog Soldiers could be like Kroot with better attacks and armour. Nicassar could be a psychic choir or farseer gang.

Obviously this would spoil the game.

Fine. Youre aware of the problem but still put forth this idea ?

We know the sillyness of our common provider of 40k rules'n fluff.
But even they wouldn't go there.

I could imagine some allies spread over the 40k range ( like one ally in BFG, another in PS or apoc, maybe a 3rd in 40k itself ), but no real multi-ethnic codex.

I put forth the idea in full in order to criticise it.

Nicassar are in BFG.

SMs are allowed fast biker, all tank drop pod, shooty assault armies with heavy psychic support, but not at the same time. A lot of the special stuff is locked to special characters. The Tau codex could be designed the same way.

Oh and Tau didnt get their "suit-heavy" list with a SC or a "all kroot" list back in the day?
Or have the only inbuild ally ( kroot, later kroot + vespids ) of any codex?

It would be a surprise if Tau could evade the SC-treatment if they get a 5th ed codex.

The Tau have a rediculous amount of allies as it is but I think it just gives fans more creative license just because Demiurg dont have a official mini's line doesnt mean you couldnt do dwarves with carapace armour and Tau Carbines.

But what I imagine them being like is the Spacers Guild basically engineers in space nomads considering their entire race was exterminated by the Tyranids.

.....Thats if we're assuming their Squats however

They dont call me Garybrandy for nothing!

how is it off topic? we hardly know what the topic even is!

Demiurg were going to be a sort of space dwarf if look at Jes Goodwin concept art. They have some connections with dwarfs like being technologically advanced, miners and they hate orks.

Heheh felt I needed to quote myself. in my post I say "Exterminated by Tyranids" more like "Hive Fleet Johnson!" Jervis Johnson that is.

I think it is the way it should be done, however on the basis of the past two Tau codexes I don't think GW will put in the effort.

The Tau Empire codex was a pretty disgraceful effort when all's said and done. It got worse under 5e.

Vespids have always been crap and no-one uses them. So much for a built-in ally.

Isn't it dangerous then to ask for more allies?

If youre unlucky, there is only 1 designer free to do the Tau => Mr jervisification.....

You know, tau arent horde ( cruddace ) or elite ( ward ) or funny/hairy ( kelly ). Doesnt leave much options.

Well thing is you ask for too much and Jervis's cowled agents whisk your Codex away to a shredder then the fluffmeisters invent a reason why your race suddenly took a extinction level event tumble....

Its a harsh world out there in Grimdark!
