So a couple of years ago, I decided to start an Ultramarine army after a trip to the Toronto Games Workshop. The results are a bunch of poorly painted smurfs and a Razorback my friend painted and gave me after he quit Space Marines. Since then, I have taken a couple years off of Warhammer 40k for some reason, but I am back and stuck with a bunch of Ultramarines. I then learned through reading the Codex through of the Zeist Campaign, where many different chapters sent a squad or a Predator or something to help defeat the Xenos. I bought AoBR, a Predator, and a couple single characters, and this is what I have (Only Ultramarines painted, in the process of painting Praetors of Orpheus and my own chapter on the white primered models).
Army List.
HQ:
Captain
Librarian
Chaplain (not pictured)
Troops:
2 Tactical squads of 10

Please comment on list and paint job.

looks like that razor back has bested some death of glory moments, you totaly need to get hold of some citadel washes too, give more shading

The list is probably too slow, which will become apparent when you play your first skirmish vs. another semi-mech Marine army or full mech Guard, Eldar, &c.
Washes of brown or black might bring out some more detail on the figures. If you're going for blood ... might want to try it on the assault marines as well -- a little gore over their chainswords with spatter on their front armor.

I personally don't like the blood effect, and I would re-paint the Razorback were I not lazy. However, I have begun to use black washes and highlighting on the then unpainted army. WIP pictures (hopefully) up soon.
@ghost11: Yeah, I mainly play against Orks as nearly everyone in my town plays Orks and I get destroyed. I'm planning on investing in some Landspeeders or motorcycles. What would you recommend?

I've always liked the idea of a "Campaign Army" ... it really appeals to my short attention span and loss of focus painting the same colors all the time !!

I'm going to be out of town for the holidays, but I will hopefully be back with some more Space Marines. I'm definitely going to also be picking up some washes and foundation paints at the NYC Games Workshop. Happy Holidays!

Hey, Back from New York. Sorry for being away and seemingly reviving this post, but I have a picture of my finished Praetor and a Bolter and Chainsword Space Marine Painter picture of my created chapter. Also, in Games Workshop Greenwich Village, I bought a Vindicator, Assault Squad, Ironclad Dreadnought, Drop Pod, and a Command Squad to add to my list. Here are the pictures:
BTW! Praetor is supposed to look dirty or muddy. Is there anything you think looks wrong or anything i could be doing better?

Sorry for the lack of updates again, I'm painting my Vindicator and it's taking a while. Hang in there!
