Well, someone at my FLGS gave me a bunch of catachan Guard so I'm going to use them in my Death Guard as traitors.

Some pics of them as they came to me:

The first thing I did was added some cork to all the bases. I'm going for the "moving through rocky terrain" look.

I also replaced a Guardsman's arm with a flag. Later I'm going to "Chaosify" it.

I then took the three Heavy Weapon teams I have and added lots of bits to them.

Team #1:

After:

Team #2:

Team #3:

This one has the most bits on it right now.

And that's it for now. I'm going to add some sand to all of the bases, as well as on parts of the guys. Remember, this is Traitor Guard for my Death Guard. They should look dirty if they hang around Plague Marines. \

More to come.

I going to probably just paint them the normal catachan colors and add some washes to make them look old and gross.

i was thinking that maybe (imho) it would look better that instead of the usual green there would be the use of green but with a more pronounced brown either drybrushed of simply painted roughly over the top to make them appear muddy and less...pretty i guess is a loose term for what im looking for
looks good, keep up the good work

Alright, about damn time for an update. I haven't been procrastinating, but I'm just too busy. Anyway, I got all of the bases finished, with some sand, and they are all primed black. Going for the "crusty" look, and some of them are supposed to look deeply "entrenched in filth".

Anyway, hope to get some painted real soon.

No offense, but they never will be, at this point. This post is like 6 months old, and I doubt I 'll ever get back around to 'em.

Noooooooo!!! I just found this thread (because it was bumped) and was all excited about it! Don't let them wind up on the Shelf of Shame!

Really, this was an inspired start. Don't let it die off. There's a lot of ways to crank out a large project like this with a quality look to it.

I'm hoping you change you mind.

Hmmm. I wasn't aware anyone even cared about this. Maybe I will have some inspiration now.

Yes, please do reconsider! If I thought your models were crap or not worth doing then I would not have even posted. I don't know what you have going on in the world outside of Dakka, but if you do not have a project going right now and do have time to model, dude you have SUCH an awesome start! The idea is solid, there's plenty of background, the application for the finished models are varied (rebel guard counts as normal guard codex, traitor guard, chaos cult, etc).

If you need motivation, I can show you links to other Traitor Guard projects. And selfishly, I am very interested in the work of others because eventually I plan on -stealing- using the ideas as inspiration. I have a ridiculously huge Death Guard army that I'm tooling up for APOC and plan on having about 200 or so Traitor Guard as a meat shield. In about 2 months I'm going to be right here next to you cranking out horribly warped and corrupted humans that have turned from the light of the Emperor and embraced the Ruinous Powers.

So what do you say? Restart the blog, paint up a prototype, get rave reviews and motivational feedback... come on, it'll be fun!

Well, when this project was started, I moved across the country, and I had a lot of other things to think about. I'm finally back into 40k after a few months, so I'll find time to squeeze these guys in.

Try putting aside your painting time for a couple of sessions to totally devote to painting like just one of these guys. You will almost certainly be bitten by the traitor guard bug and unable to resist painting them. There is something about the seductive lure of painting chaos traitors that is ironically fitting.

There are quite a few traitor guard blogs on here if you get stuck for inspiration.
