@Alpharius - YES, we dont want to penalise anyone over the timing of the campaign. you will be able to pledge later and still get all the same stuff.

Congrats on a big finish!

I've been hovering my mouse over the Pledge button for the last 3 days but in the end I couldn't justify buying into yet another game that I don't have anyone to play with. But best of luck to you.

I have no means to pledge but i hope after the pledgers have been satisfied there will be a nice starter set for us normal grunts

And there's still a chance that the Samurai style body guard for Idaho stretch goal will 'unlock' if they make enough in the post-campaign Pledge Manager phase!

I didn't even see this until JUST too late. Will these units be offered independently later on? If so, what would the estimated wait time be?

From the last update:

Paypal Pledges and Add-Ons-

We will be setting up some Paypal pledge options on our website for anyone who for whatever reason was not able to pledge during the KS itself, and Paypal pledges will count toward that £42K stretch goal which is £100 away at the moment.

We will also be using Paypal/credit card to allow anyone who wants to upgrade, change or Add to their pledge ammount at any time between now and when we ship the figures, so if you see some photos of a Unit in resin and think "I need more of that" it wont be a problem, and we will honour the KS prices between now and shipping rewards.

So right now is still not really too late. But you'll want to keep an eye on the Kickstarter for updates since

Survey/Pledge Manager -

At the moment, we dont know what a lot of you want, so we will be sending out a survey of some kind to find out, and give you a chance to add/amend your pledge, or let us know about any swaps you want.
We haven't decided exactly how to do the Pledge manager yet, so we are not sure exactly when we will send it out.

I also want to try and get ALL Units and figures totally finished in CAD before we send the pledge manager, so that you can see what all the Units look like when picking Add-Ons.

Sweet! Are the stretch goals going to be available as add ons? Are they going to be KS exclusives? Definitely setting some funds aside for this.

Probably. Only specifics mentioned so far is Monday:

We are taking a few days break to recover and plan out the next few months. and starting next Monday 3rd we will be gearing up the Anvil war machine to complete and produce over 14,000 high quality resin miniatures!

I'm not sure when they'll want to lock down specifics by, though. It's resin, but they're 3D sculpts (and thus 3D prints), with a target delivery date in February.

and THANK YOU for your support - the project had a fantastic last few days and we are still reeling! We now need to gear up to produce over FOURTEEN THOUSAND afterlife miniatures.

I would expect we will put out a firm update with all the details some time next week, when we have worked out the best way to run everything.

a WIP on the second War-Drone

Is there a review/battlereport/summary of the AFTERLIFE game and ruleset somewhere?

Personally I think the rules use a lot of good, modern conventions from fog of war to reactions but the basic resolution mechanic is really boring.

How so?

(Genuinely curious here - I'm about to dive in big with Afterlife...after all!)

It's just attack stat+d10, roll over target defense stat. It's old and generic and feels out of place in an otherwise very progressive system.

The question is, though, what other way could it be done that is actually an improvement rather than just different for the sake of it? I think it's simple, effective, and while a lot of games use similar mechanics, there's a reason for that: It works.

Yep, in the end I was quite tempted by the buggies, but stuck with my plan to pledge for 6 wardrones. Hoping to convert them as counts-as terminators (it will be easy to change the gun barrel to represent one bolter on each arm, just need to figure out the combat weapon).

How about the forgeworld chainsaw bayonets? Two of those would look pretty menacing.

EDIT: Or, in fact, Anvils Industries chainsaw bayonets.

@Lord Blackfang - I would say "simple" rather than boring. We did a lot of work in play testing to establish the minimum level of complexity with dice rolling which would still allow lots of statistical variation, and using a D10 combined with both an attacked and defender stat gives us the widest possible range of outcomes with a single roll.

Keeping the number of rolls down means that combat resolution is very fast, particularly once a player has memorised the Unit stats through playing the game several times. This speed in the resolution combined with the alternating Activations gives the game a sense of urgency, which is important for creating the realism of a fast moving urban battle.

Its probably not the most exciting way to roll dice (and by no means the only way to do it), but it means we can focus the detail in the game on other areas such as combined tactics and unit movements.

Just my thoughts on the subject of game design!

@Solkan - I am glad you like the miniatures, we certainly wanted to treat female figures in our game differently from how other companies tend to, so you will see many more tough, properly clothed and equipped female soldiers!

@RiTides - I have just checked and our "chainsaw bayonets" should work well attached under the arms. To attach a bolter barrel you would need to cut off the whole front of the arm guns to make a shorter weapon with a wide enough space. (The part painted black on dwartists "police" Wardrone.

Thanks for checking on that so quickly for me! I will have to ponder the conversion a bit and think it will be clearer once I have the models in-hand... so I guess I should try to forget about it until February

I would hope that we can get them to you before February.

We will be shipping each pledge as soon as we can, and if there are multiple pledges which can all go out at once, we will pack and ship to further away places first followed by more local people, to take into account the difference in shipping time.
In your case as its only one Unit type, it will ship as soon as we have that one mould made.

Oh man, I want one of those drones. I really want the body for a Techmarine or something, though I'd love to get my hands on a Taurus for a TFC.

What size base are the turrets on?

Could the Taurus Howitzer be pulled off for a Thunderfire Cannon conversion? (I want other options than finecrud.) If so, I want one! I also wish I could just buy the guns individually, I think that minigun would be an amazing stormbolter, or alternatively, two of them would be amazing sponsons for my Dakka predator.... (though I bet the older chaps would roll in their grave if I put that on a 2nd edition Rhino/Predator conversion.) Anyways, if the Taurus is the right size, I am definitely buying one.

Oh and Anvil, I finally got some more helmet crests from your exolords line. I can't wait to see the quality.
