Garro is out in e-format

Book 42: Garro

The Horus Heresy Book 42
Exclusive to eBook for a limited time!

Death Guard. Battle-Captain. Knight Errant. Agentia Primus. Hero. Nathaniel Garro's journey has been long and hard and now, you can read it all in one book, embellished and expanded from the original audio dramas.

READ IT BECAUSE
Garro hasn't reached the end of his journey quite yet – the Siege of Terra awaits him – but for the very first time, you can read his entire saga in a single volume, from his first mission as an agent of the Sigillite to his decision to break away and seek his own destiny.

THE STORY
From out of the shadows of the Silent War, a hero emerges. Clad all in grey, an errant warrior of the Legiones Astartes kneels before the Regent of Terra, and accepts a solemn new duty – Battle-Captain Garro, once commander of the Eisenstein, now Agentia Primus of Malcador the Sigillite. From the desolation of Isstvan to the halls of the Imperial Palace itself, he stands as a paragon of loyalty and protector of the innocent, ever ready to strike back at the traitorous allies of the Warmaster. But Garro is walking a path of his own, one that may lead him to question his own place in the Imperium... and what if he, too, should falter?

This book contains James Swallow’s complete saga of Nathaniel Garro in the Horus Heresy – the audio drama series is embellished and expanded in prose, with additional scenes to represent the author’s original vision. This all serves as prelude to the events of the novella Vow of Faith, bringing Garro closer to his inescapable destiny as the first true martyr of the Lectitio Divinitatus.

'Garro is not a collection of short stories - it's James Swallow's full novelisation of Nathaniel Garro's story arc, something we've previously only seen (in part) in the audio dramas and novella. There are new and extended scenes, whole new chapters in fact, making this just about the most definitive exploration of the founding of the Knights Errant, and everything that comes after...' - Laurie Goulding, The Horus Heresy series editor

Written by James Swallow

This novel includes content from the audio dramas Garro: Oath of Moment, Garro: Legion of One, Garro: Sword of Truth, Garro: Shield of Lies, Burden of Duty and Garro: Ashes of Fealty, plus the novella Garro: Vow of Faith.

ABOUT THIS EDITION
The eBook edition includes integrated illustrations of characters and events from the story, and an afterword that places the story in context within the series.

The Librarian's Acolyte

12 Days of Christmas: Day 1

A Warhammer 40,000 short story

Brother Loraeus, the newest recruit to the Ultramarines Librarius, is given a simple task by Chief Librarian Tigurius – but when danger strikes, Loraeus must use all his wits and cunning to survive.

READ IT BECAUSE

It's a small insight into the trials that would-be Librarians must face in order to be accepted into their Chapter's secretive brotherhood of psykers. Also, it has nurglings in it.

THE STORY
Within the great brotherhoods of the Space Marine Chapters, there are those who stand apart. The Librarians – powerful battle-psykers who use their connection to the roiling currents of the warp to devastate their foes – are feared and misunderstood by those they call brother, but are loyal servants of the Emperor nonetheless. One such warrior, new to his powers, Brother Loraeus is given his first task as a member of the Ultramarines Librarius. But when disaster strikes and enemies attack, Loraeus must channel his power to defeat them and save his life – and perhaps his soul.

It's a pity they resolve this loose thread from the excellent White Scars arc in this way, as I really, really liked the character and the sacrifices he made to help his adoptive Legion get through all that stuff.

..bags.

wow eh ?

TBF I got one from my store a while back due to..err.... a birthday or something ? ....... and it's nice enough.

Haven't actually used it however.

I recently bought/read 3 of the HH short stories from Xmas :The Grey Raven, Exocytosis & The Last Son of Prospero -- also picked up Prodigal, Wraithbound & Perpetual.

Enjoyed them all -- the HH ones whilst not essential, as such, certainly move forwards certain plot lines here and there :

Spoiler:

Grey Raven sees Librarian Balsar Kurthuri of the Raven Guard return to Terra, prove himself ... and then being given a grey suit of armour by Malcador... Umojen -- chief Librarian of the Salamanders seems to be a Knight Errant as well.

Exocytosis sees Typhon ....evolving ? changing ? decaying ? moving on anyway as he starts his descent. Some nice interplay with the traitor elements of the DA -- who are keen to throw their lot in with Horus allbeit, perhaps, for their own reasons. Ends with him setting off to rejoin Mortarion and the rest of his legion -- keen to share the new gifts he's picked up.

last son of prospero : ... well... probably rules out the Blood Raven idea -- at least from him.

... might he -- after all that happens -- actually be Janus ? The grim irony might fit.

Legends of the World That Was

12 Days of Christmas: Day 5
5 Time of Legends omnibuses for the price of 3

The man who became a god and founded an empire. The sorcerer who became a king of a realm of the dead. The heroes and villains of an ancient race who warred on each other. The man who held together an empire. The kings who tore down two mighty empires. These heroes – and more – will be found in the five Time of Legends omnibuses within this collection.

READ IT BECAUSE

It's a whopping fifteen novels jam-packed with all the heroes, action and excitement you could hope for from Warhammer Fantasy Battles novels – and then some. And available at an amazing price for a limited time only.

DESCRIPTION
The heroes and legends of the World That Was underpin the myths of the Age of Sigmar. Now you can experience many of those legends and read the tales of some of those heroes in a phenomenal bundle. Their deeds are legend. These are their stories.

The Legend of Sigmar by Graham McNeill
Sigmar is the greatest leader of men the world has ever known. By saving the high king of the dwarfs, he earned the eternal friendship of the mountain folk. When a mighty horde of orcs threatened his lands, he united the tribes of men to stand against them at Black Fire Pass. He broke the siege of Middenheim and pushed back the forces of Chaos. In defeating the great necromancer Nagash, he saved mankind and secured the future of his empire.

The Rise of Nagash by Mike Lee
Nagash was the first necromancer and the supreme lord of undeath. He wrested the secrets of dark magic from the elves and perverted them to suit his ends. When the priest-kings of Nehekhara stood united against him, he broke their armies and sacked their cities. He raised the largest army of the dead the world has ever known and became an immortal dark god.

The Sundering by Gav Thorpe
Malekith, betrayer and usurper, architect of the great war that will divide the race of elves. Alith Anar, wrathful avenger whose spirit will forever haunt the traitorous druchii. Caledor, reluctant leader, the one elf who can hold back the darkness and restore peace to Ulthuan. Witch King, Shadow King and Phoenix King.

The Black Plague by C L Werner
The Empire conceived by Sigmar has stood for more than a thousand years, but now it rests on the edge of destruction. As war and disease sweep across Sigmar’s realm, a hero rises in the north and begins to embrace his destiny as the future leader of a united Empire – if he can survive the trials to come.

War of Vengeance by Nick Kyme, Chris Wraight & C L Werner
The War of Vengeance, or War of the Beard, was a great and terrible conflict between the elves and dwarfs for the domination of the Old World. This bitter struggle left both races forever diminished and forged an enmity that would endure until the world's ending...

It's filler, but somewhat interesting filler if you've always wanted to know what happens to all those Tech-Heretics and their toys...

Also, one of the characters -the Iron Warrior peeping from behind the main character on the cover- is named after a James Bond villain. I'm going to let you guess how his character evolves throughout the story

Really???! That's, I guess good to hear, but very unusual. Usually only 100% fawning is for AD-B or comments about how dreamy he is and how he should/should've written everything I suppose Goodreads might be step 2 but if you go around and find all positives then, well...maybe it's worth your time I'm enjoying it so far but I know essentially nothing about this chapter so it's all brand new to me. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Today Cybernetica HH (loved it, personally) as MP3 moved to the BL audio app for $19.99. Glad to see the trend continues of a proportion discount on the app vs MP3 on the usual BL site. It looks like now if an audio book/drama is not on the app on the date of release it will be there the next day. Had an iTunes gift card balance so worth the wait. Full audiobooks at $10 cheaper on the app is nice but FYI for the short cheap ones under $5 the price is usually the same on the app.

We love our superheroes because they refuse to give up on us. We can analyze them out of existence, kill them, ban them, mock them, and still they return, patiently reminding us of who we are and what we wish we could be.

It is quite a common thing nowadays for a company to offer discounts to users of their App.

Its only going to become more commonplace too sadly as more people go digital.

I understand it's common, I just don't get what the actual justification is? If anything, non-mobile users should be the ones getting a discount since GW don't have to give anyone else a cut when they sell to us direct through their website.

I need to acquire plastic Skavenslaves, can you help?
I have a blog now, evidently. Featuring the Alternative Mordheim Model Megalist.

"Your society's broken, so who should we blame? Should we blame the rich, powerful people who caused it? No, lets blame the people with no power and no money and those immigrants who don't even have the vote. Yea, it must be their fething fault." - Iain M Banks

"The language of modern British politics is meant to sound benign. But words do not mean what they seem to mean. 'Reform' actually means 'cut' or 'end'. 'Flexibility' really means 'exploit'. 'Prudence' really means 'don't invest'. And 'efficient'? That means whatever you want it to mean, usually 'cut'. All really mean 'keep wages low for the masses, taxes low for the rich, profits high for the corporations, and accept the decline in public services and amenities this will cause'." - Robin McAlpine from Common Weal

I assume companies wish to funnel customers through their app. Once someone has downloaded your app and set up an account, they're more likely to impulsebuy stuff from it in the future. Plus you can send advertisements etc. through the apps I believe, making offers etc show up in your phones feed unless you've disabled such sillyness.

do intend to read some of those books but too steep for me, especially at this time of year.

I have the first four of these. Way too much action and fighting for me, they have some real gems of ideas amongst them but by focusing on action almost exclusively they are dull beyond words.
ThIs is pretty pathetic but in truth the only reason i bought 4 of them is because they look pretty on the shelf. Which they do, just remember if your going to open them and actually read them do it after you turn your brain off.

City of Secrets

A Legends of the Age of Sigmar novel

In the city of Excelsis, in the heart of the Realm of Beasts, Corporal Armand Callis of the city watch stumbles upon a dark secret and finds himself hunted, with just a witch hunter for companionship.

READ IT BECAUSE

It's an in depth look at life in a city of the Mortal Realms coupled with a rip-roaring tale of action and adventure, not to mention a most intriguing mystery, as you might expect of the City of Secrets…

THE STORY
Excelsis is the city of secrets, a grand and imposing bastion of civilisation in the savage Realm of Beasts. Within its winding streets and shadowy back alleys, merchants deal in raw prophecy mined from an ancient fragment of the World That Was, and even the poorest man may earn a glimpse of the future. Yet not all such prophecies can be trusted. When Corporal Armand Callis of the city guard stumbles upon a dark secret, he finds himself on the run from his former comrades, framed for a crime he did not commit. Only the Witch Hunter Hanniver Toll knows the truth of his innocence. Together the pair must race against time to save Excelsis from a cataclysm that would drown the city in madness and fear.
