Here are some pics of my latest bug. The Tyrannofex , made using the carny model and some milliput and GS. I've made the weapon to represent a rupture cannon.
I'm not very good with the greenstuff . The body has been made longer and the upper body was sort of hinged at the chest and filled with milliput . This left an inch gap on the top carapace , So its about that much wider and 3/4 of an inch taller than a standard carny. I hope you like.

I really, really like what you've done with the spikes on top. The gun's fairly solid, too. Certainly, you've exceeded my meager greenstuff skills.

Not sure if I like the Greenstuffed shell. It looks a bit too.. round and doughy, I think are the right words. Overall? Looks successful to me.

If I ignore the Scytal legs, which is just something I don't like and has nothing to do with how you've done it, I think it's really really good. Got one of the better Cannons I've seen, and he looks suitably bulked up. The first carapace plate could use a bit more shaping so it's not just a rounded edge. If you could bring the red back along the front edge, to give it a similar contour to a normal Fex and maybe put a bit of a groove between the two rows of spites on each side it could help out the appearance of it.

It looks good. Can't wait to see it painted. Only thing that stuck out as odd to me was the mix of the scything talon forward limbs and the standard rear legs.
The one thing I would have done differently(personally), since you kept the standard rear legs, would be to have a set of 'spikes' at the base of the forward limbs that would be able to "dig in" when the thing fires.

I kept it as near to the codex as possible. Except swapping the sything talons to the middle socket. It would have been to hard the other way.

I've always considered them a matriarchal society. Like bees ruled by a queen ( Norn queen ) , and the bigger bugs female too , like the dominatrix. Beside my friend had a hive tyrant that he called "hivey" which ended up being shortened to "Ivy".

Yeah, that's a nice model. You've got room to improve with your GS sculpting, but not bad by any stretch of the imagination. Certainly better than me. The cannon looks a bit mushy in parts, but I like the way the arms feed into it and that bone-spike bayonet is a stroke of genius.
I especially like the way the head gets partly overlapped by the carapace. That goes far toward making it look big.
But that base is really the unsung bit that really completes the piece. I don't know that I've ever seen a more effective depiction of mud on a base. How'd you get that texture?

^I guess I'm not really the one to answer this but my guess would be a thin layer of something (Green stuff, dried glue, etc) then painted, and then given a heavy (maybe more than 1) gloss varnish.

JOHIRO, I agree with everything you said. I need to keep using the GS and improve.

Its what I use on all my bases , even to glue the models to the base. Its called " no nails " its a building glue that comes in a big plastic tube. Costs around £4 and is easy to find in a hardware store . Smear the stuff on and paint it up. I used a bit of magic wash to make it look wet and glossy ( same with the carapace).

On the green stuff bit, you did all right but what erks me the most is the fact that the gs bit doesn't merge into the carapace. It's just on top of the plastic bit.
