I want to get Germans (likely SS) and was wondering how helpful the 2nd issue was, and if the first book is worth getting.

I'm thinking of a winter theme.

I've flipped through them before...and really wasn't impressed.

You can probably find better through Osprey or Squadron Signals Publications.

Anyone know what Osprey or Squadron Signals books would have a decent uniform color guide for British Airlanding troops?

Actually, I've got nothing on that front Chaplain. They've got plenty on the Commandos, tons on British Armour, and plenty on the SAS now.

But British Airlanding Troops seem to be distinctly missing(outside of looking at their tactics).

Crap. I'm ordering a few models to start an Airlanding company, but I don't want to put them up like Paras with the red berets and everything unless that's also accurate for Airlanding.

Maroon (not red) berets where worn by the entire parachute regiment including glider troops. As far as I know they where worn by other regiments in the Airborne divisions as well. I've certainly never heard anything to the contrary anyway.

I've got both art of war books. The first one is more a general 'look at the pretty pictures' type of book with some nice ideas for basing and techniques, but nothing you will have not seen from years of GW publications. Book 2 is very very useful if you are painting a german force and lists every colour you'll need, where you'll need it, every tiny little detail you can apply to your troops and every major variation of german forces that FoW produce at the moment. In short, yes, get it!

I read the wermacht addition gave me some slight inspiration to do a urban winter theme 1943 Stalingrad but other than that as Legoburner said "pretty pictures".

They are very pretty pictures though for the most part. The interviews with the painters were also interesting for picking up a few tips here and there. The German book does have quite a bit of colour information and tips.

I found both books to be pretty useful.

The first book had useful tips for modeling smaller scale minis (basing the infantry teams in particular) and the second gave good advice for German playersn which was nice for me since I run both Genpanzerte and panzerkompanie armies.

For someone first entering into the world of FoW, the Art of War books do a magnificent job of doing what they were designed to do: Take you from the sealed blisterpack of miniatures to the final painted product, making it easy all along the way.

I highly reccomend them.
