Ok guys so I have a small guard army(about 800pts so far) and am needing to get some motivation in building it up... this (as you know) is where you all come in!!

So I will add some pics in a minute, just to let you know there will be some plain kit-bashing but not much other converting (i.e. sculpting) cos I ain't very good at that tbh.

For now

Firstly here is the CCS, The heavy flamer is gonna be swapped out for a sniper rifle in due course.

Second, is the Infantry squad from the platoon.

The sarge of that squad

A guardsman w/ a grenade launcher (and a bloody nose )

And my fav guardsman from that squad. I love the stance that he has...

Next is the second Infantry Squad, close ups of some of them will follow.

The only Leman Russ for now. I will only give heavy stubbers to tanks without sponsons, along w/ the fluff from "Gunheads". But more on that later.

And finally my first Sentinel

I have also:

A PCS (unpainted)
A Veteran squad (half painted)
A second sentinel (unpainted)

Feedback is much appreciated

Imp. Monkey

I just like the look of them, plus they are not on the board at the start of the game, they outflank and come on to flame/gun a unit to ash/pieces

I really like how you've painted them. The single red shoulder pad is really striking.

Oh and Vulkan_He'stan, what's wrong with Scout Sentinels. You be suprised about how much damage 3 Lascannon-totting, Outflanking Walkers can do to enemy tanks or flamer armed ones to infantry.

Yeh, I really don't go for the painstaking highlights on infantry, they look too bright and garish often (and I'm pants at it) but the dry brush always looks good imho.

thanks for the comments guys...keep it coming

also, the Russ' mud was the tamiya weathering powders...they is amazing, on men as well as tanks.

And the colour of stripe on each squads fatigues denotes the platoon, squad, etc. For example the Command squad has gold while the platoon has blue...

That is VERY nice guard army. I just have one suggestion, a black wash on the black armor will give a GREAT look. I picked this up at my Local GW when they where painting LoTD.

@Mewiththeface- Ok i'll try the wash, It may add some more definition...That will happen to the PCS (eventually) as the guinea pigs

@ poipo32- Hmmmm... I don't talk to traitors normally The commisairs are very strict!! Lol But i will keep going.

Can I have some ideas on a name for them, they could be a cadian army, I see them being stationed somewhere on the eastern fringes... on a pretty heavily populated planet.
Ideas wanted

Cheers all

I like the face on the Sentinel pilot. Will you give the troops any kind of squad markings?

Nice models. Clean and neat paintjobs. And the weathering on the Russ is looking good too.

The blending on the sentinel pilot´s glasses is really good as well.

Nice job with this conversion mate. He looks like he´s waving the others forward after having spotted something.

I can see the scene now....

"Krane knew they had to be there. The enemy had Armour coming through this stretch of wilderness, and by the Emperor he would find them.

A movement far off to the right caught his attention.

A dust cloud, rising from the southeast.

As he waved the rest of his unit forwards, he started smiling. The Emperor would surely be with them today, as they rode to glory or death.Either way, they would stop the enemy here, while he was exposed..."

I like it, but in my mind it would be more like this...

Leaning on the roll bars Sgt. Moody looked out at the plain beyond. Four days they had been waiting in this burnt out shell of what must have once been a quaint little village alone in the wilds of Tarnbeck. Now however there was movement on the plains. The enemy was passing their position 20 degrees north, 147 degrees south. Exactly where Major General Phrogan had said they would be. The trap was ready, the recon company was set to commence in the first stage of the operation.
Putting binoculars to his eyes Moody could see the clouds of dust billowing out from the many vehicles exhausts and treads. Now was the time.
"Recon company forward, The liberation of Tarnbeck has begun, and we shall be those lucky enough to spill first blood!" He called, a moment of static sounding in his ear as his Vox-booster branched the signal to the other pilots. Seconds later cries of "For the Emperor!" and "Devil's Shoulder!*" came back across the network.

Lurching, Moody's walker stepped over the fallen roof and out onto the plain. "For the Emperor." he muttered under his breath, gunning the engine and urging his machine toward the fast moving dust cloud...

I dig the guardsmen.

Question does the red strip indicate a platoon marking or something?

SkyWolves. 1250 points.
Dwarves. 900 points.

The one thing about the sentinel would be that if the guy is out and signaling or something, I would imagine that the sentinel would stop and stand at a perfect stand.

I dig the army. Very characterful and decently painted(it looks like you need to thin your paints down a bit and do multiple coats of red[some of the primer coat is showing through. It just means that the red isn't covering well, which is a common issue with red paint period]).

My only real issue is with the "Command Sentinel".

Why the heck is the driver standing up like that? Sentinels have some of the most advanced comms systems in the Guard, period. Not to mention multiple redundancies built in to ensure that those comms actually keep working.
If he's supposed to be 'directing' the other Sentinels...he'd be doing it on foot, not standing up making himself a nicely elevated target for anyone within a few hundred feet.

@Shadowbrand- The colour of stripe on their fatigues denotes the platoon or squad.
@Mewiththeface- I see what you mean, I'll do that with another sentinel. This is doing this just to keep him level in a crowded area (ruined town would mean very few open spaces...)

Kanluwen wrote:Why the heck is the driver standing up like that? Sentinels have some of the most advanced comms systems in the Guard, period. Not to mention multiple redundancies built in to ensure that those comms actually keep working.

@Kanluwen- The driver is standing so as to get a good view of the enemy he is ambushing (as the wee story tells) The comms booster is just to look cool, and on planets with high electronic-y force stuff (read gunheads) they would need them as normal comms don't work properly. He is not a target as he is ambushing an enemy column or convoy from a ruin of some kind (also in the fluff story) But thanks for the thoughts. Keep it coming!

Nice red guardsmen. I would very much prefer more color on the regimental flag though. And more detail on the faces,i know thats the more challenging part of painting a mini, but heck if it's worth doing, let's do it alittle more better than the next guy right?

Good painting on the CCS commander, liked him.
