Anyone up for a game at the hobbit next Saturday? I just moved to the area & I'd like to get a game of WHFB or 40k (I've got a set of planetstrike terrain painted up) in.

Still deployed, but there are always 40K players there every Saturday. Typical size games are 2000 points (at least since 2003 when I arrived), but points totals can obviously be changed to whatever folks want to play.

Best of luck. Hope to see you around later this year.

Sounds like a plan - I'm meeting a buddy there this weekend for a planetstrike game - his marines vs. my IG.

I was stationed in Fort Bragg from 1998 to 2002. Is the store in Springlake just outside the gate off of Bragg Blvd still there?

I don't think so - at least I haven't seen one.

According to the GW store finder, there's a place in Spring Lake called Gamer's Guild. The store website doesn't have much and what it does have is card-game info.

Gamers Guild moved up the street across Spring lake out on 81. It wend back to its original strip mall location out on the edge of town.

They have alot of cards, Klicks, and D and D stuff. They also have more then thier fair share of munchkins.

Only game in that town though, so thats to be expected.

I go in there from time to time to get stuff, and kick it around with the guy that works up in there. He's a pretty good guy. I don't know him personally, I live in the bowels of Fayettenam, so I only go up there a couple of times in a blue moon.

A bunch of the same fellows that play in the hobbit play up there, though and im sure they can pipe in how it is up there with them. Rick ran off all the crazy snotlings when they started getting uppity and pulling thier silly kid stuff with ripping things off, and carrying on. Thinning out that heard did wonders for the quality of the gaming there.

Flames of War is the big game going over there with 40k and fantasy being the close second.

The Hobbit is solid gaming. Serious competition, award winning players, and a good all around crowd. Just keep your hands out of the D and D cages in the back of the game area, those guys have the potential to bite them off.

I've been slacking for the past couple of months between going to the hot place and getting work done on my leg, but they have great all around gaming with a great crowd.

Rick runs the Rogue Trader tourneys and works both Warhammer and 40K stuff. Solid people and have known him for over ten years and then some.

( damn... Its been THAT LONG!!! )

Wow, I guess I should head to spring lake and check the store out then - that's a good bit closer to my house.

I'm hoping to be able to play at the hobbit semi-regularly, but my work schedule isn't really conducive to free time at the moment.

Thanks for the review,

Dan

Came home for R&R and stopped by the Hobbit last Saturday. During the early afternoon, they had 2 Fantasy and 3 40K games going on. There was also a board game, D&D and a Flames of War game being played as well as painting lessons going on by another previous GD winner. While not the busiest day I've seen, it does demonstrate that despite almost the entire 82nd Division being deployed, there are still a good number of players showing up.

Deployments, sadly, has been the biggest hindrance in getting all of us together at the same time. Our typical RTT's draw 20-30 players and the Ard Boyz draws 30-40 players. These numbers are pretty standard since I arrived back in 2003.

I've not been to Gamer's Guild in a couple of years. They pretty much quit supporting GW games. The shop is dominated by card game players.

There's another shop in Southern Pines that has got a 40K group going, but I've not had the opportunity to visit there as of yet. IIRC correctly, it's called Hit Pointe Hobbies.

I play at the Hobbit just about every Saturday. It's kind of a crap-shoot to see what the big game is going to be on any given day. Last week was a 40k 'ardboyz semi-finals and a 15,000pt per side Fantasy game, but sometimes you'll get a room full of Flames of War and a few 40k and Fantasy tables scattered around. I'd suggest bringing your own terrain, if you're picky about how the battlefield looks, but other than that I haven't seen a better community for gaming, and the store owners and employees are great.
