It can move in any direction you want without turning. It can go backwards, forwards, sideways, however you want.

Which always was a silly move. I mean really... can your Rhino REALLY move sideways? Shouldn't it have to pivot, move to the spot, and pivot again? And won't said movement require some degree of space between it and the two or three other Rhinos around it, disallowing that Rhino Wall from moving dead sideways in compleat defiance of physics and logic?

Where can you find the rules saying you have to move "forwards"?

You have a rule saying you are permitted to move.
There is no rule preventing you from moving sideways.
Thus, you are permitted to move sideways.

Vehicles used to have a direction that they had to move in. I think that rule went out the window with 2nd edition.

What's interesting is that page 57 says vehicles may combine forward and reverse movement in the same turn providing it does not exceed it's maximum movement and may turn by pivoting and expressly prohibits "wheeling".

Since the ruleset is permissive, not prohibitive, I would suggest that since the rules don't say you may move sideways that you may not.

*edit for punctuation.

There is no rule prohibiting my Rhino from flying! I can jump over terrain as long as I don't move more than 12".
