Hello all,

I'm a long time reader of the dakka forum, and I felt obligated to share some great economic news if your in the United States. Right now is an excellent time to buy Forgeworld products if you have the extra cash. The GBP (Great british pound) or Sterling is currently suffering a sharp decline. It dropped to a 2 year low today, 1.46(USD) at one point. This projection was not expected so quickly. Forecasters now believe that its possible the pound might drop to a 1.40 (USD). The upcoming election is causing investors to abandon the GBP, a number of other factors come into account for the downturn as well. Today for instance AIG (a global firm) announced some numbers which hurt the pound even more.

How long does it keep dropping? Well different forecasters are saying different things, but the GBP should bottom out soon. Who knows though, it could continue to drop. If anything, keep an eye on the exchange rate, just google GBP to dollars, and you ought to get an accurate number for rate.

So how does this effect you? Well that same Reaver titan which would have cost you 600+ at the 1.60 exchange rate is only 560 if and when the pound drops to 1.40. From a pure investment standpoint, buying at a cheaper rate means your purchase will increase in value as the pound climbs back up! Economies ebb and flow, and most likely the pound will recover, albeit slowly. Will it get back to 2.00$ USD? If/when requires some serious thought and research. Anyway, if you have the extra cash, keep an eye on the exchange rate, because your getting yourself that cool model you wanted, and your getting an investment! It's a great way to justify that purchase you've been mulling over, because you can eventually sell for a profit (given the exchange rate). Just something to think about friends.

If you're looking for an investment, there are ways to handle currency speculation that don't involve Forgeworld resin.

If you're looking to score cheaper superheavies and megadaemons, then yes, it's a good time to be yank.

Haha nah Im not an employee, its just a good opportunity to buy. Got my tax return though and that Reaver is looking mighty tempting. Its really hard to pass it up given economics of the matter. And for me its a great way to convince the wife of an "investment" hehe

Whether or not he's a FW employee has very little to do with the fact that he's right. The exchange rate right now makes some FW goodies alot easier to swallow on this side of the ocean.

Dude what is your guy's funny problemo. Ha.

I just got the info - but not about FW, but about the dropping dollar and discounts on further wargaming manufacturers. He is very very accurate - i see drop in prices all over the board for products made across over there ;P.

Its as if FW needed your order anyways. They are always swamped ha.

xe.com- 1USD= 1.49GBP

If you're looking to make a small order, it might not tickle you enough to pull the trigger.

OTOH, if you're going to order an expensive kit or make a large order, you'll notice significant savings. All the more reason to aim for free shipping!

I was actually trying to hold off until the open day myself, but I will probably pull the trigger soon enough.

I don't care if you think I work for FW, I am a happy Virginian thank you, but the value is great right now. I hadn't even thought about the savings across the board. Any products made in Great Britain are a good buy right now! I just happen to love Forgeworld, but I hate how expensive the models are. I remember buying a Warhound 2 years ago, and its so much cheaper now. If you hate Forgeworld, then dont buy their stuff. But if you are like me, and you want to make your dollar go further, then now is the time to do it! Again, just keep an eye on the exchange rate, and the news, it will be very interesting to see how the GBP responds. When investors start bailing on a currency, it can really kill confidence, on the other hand if it gets cheap enough it might look like a good buy which will stabilize the price. Just watch the market fellas, thats all I'm saying.

I'm sorely tempted to finally get that Mega-Dread I've been putting off since it was released.

my warhams, let me show them to you
Necrons of Acheron: 2596 finished (last update: 5/15/11 Nightbringer) (army complete!) (still 4E points values)
Warlord Grimgutz's Waaagh: 2456 finished (last update: 9/30/11 3 more Nob Bikers)
Iron Marauders (unfinished, shelved for now): 770 finished
Ultramarine/Blood Raven Joint Strike Force: 2656 finished (last update: 8/16/11, 2x Blood Raven Scout squads)
All points totals calculated using models & visible, equipped wargear (WYSIWYG), painted by myself to as high a standard as I was capable of at the time of painting... which isn't that good.

If anyone is wondering, the reason for the decline is due to the fact that the government may end up a split parliament.

Google it.

It = VERY bad...

The exchange rate is currently at 1.51-1 and was at 1.50-1 a three hours earlier. It is trending back up.

Don't get me wrong it is still better than the 2.16-1 it reached back a few years ago.
