I think someone posted a negative review of the rules on Facebook and it's gotten echo'ed a hundred times.
Other playtest reports seemed more positive but it wasn't sensational. I rate them rather highly.

I think it's less to do with the main rules (although there is disagreement about them),

but more about the state of the firefight set which don't seem to be at such a solid (like it or not) stage

I had quick look through the Mantic forums just now and Stew is pretty adamant that the rulebooks will ship in September, while that might be OK for the large battle version Firefight seems to be lagging behind and some feel it needs more time. I have no insight into to this I've had a quick flick through the beta rules but I'm not interested in play testing it I just want the final ruleset ready to go and if that means it needs another 6 months so be it. Mantic need to get this ruleset right it's their 3rd attempt at Warpath and far to many of their rulebooks have errors or need a follow up KS for a new rulebook to resolve issues.

Ah yes, my only experience is the mass battles version; I haven't really checked out Firefight.

Imagine a person who has only ever played Kings of War and Deadzone.

Have him watch a game of 40k. Not read the rules or play, just watch one game.

Now tell him to write something that plays just like 40k. Remember, he doesn't actually have any gaming experience other than Deadzone and Kings of War.

What you get is Warpath.

You haven't seen negative reviews in the Mantic echo chamber? Shocking!

If anyone didn't see this coming from them avoiding any and all discussion about firefight rules during the Kickstarter combined with the extremely raw state DZ1's book published in followed by that wonderfully produced Dungeon Saga book.. yeah.. none of this is surprising.. Mantic's failure to directly address these questions during the active campaign to fun this is exactly why they haven't gotten any of my money. They have some decent models coming out so I might scoop up some of those but it will absolutely be for another company's rules.

As far as I'm aware there's been months of regular updates to the public beta playtest. How has your input been received?

Gentle reminder that Mantic already released Mass Battles and Firefight rules for Warpath before, so people can still play those if they are unsatisfied with the new one.

I have always been curious as to what would've happened if Mantic had made a KS for any one of these...

Painted Forge Father Hultr Half-Track - now in Dust PVC rather than resin

We've taken a look at the numbers ordered and have decided that we will upgrade all of the Hultr Half-Tracks to our new PVC material - the same that we used for the miniatures from Deadzone: Infestation!

Well, we'll see how well the PVC handles large flat surfaces and sharp angles, huh.

It's the DUST stuff though, right? All those vehicles are pretty great.

Who wore it best?
Spoiler:

Seriously though.. after all the comparisons between these and 80s action figure vehicles did you "really" expect it to not look like an 80's action figure? I do agree though.. I bought a LOT of the FF infantry.

Warpath Beta v1.3 Released 22nd July

https://www.dropbox.com/s/2du4pqt2450nh7s/Warpath%20Beta%2022-07-16.docx?dl=0

Areas of Focus
Force Selection – this has now been reviewed in depth and added to the rules. Please, try and break it .
General Points Values and Balance – Again, these have been fully reviewed and should now be far more balanced, but please let us know how you get on.
Missions and Objectives – As above - I think we've caught everything, but there may be a combination I missed.

Change Log
Schedule dates have been updated again to give us more time to refine the book. We are really keen to get as much feedback as possible in the remaining time - please play as much as you can and let us know how it goes.
The whole document has been reformatted to make it clearer for the designer when it goes into layout and speed up the process. This also means I've left all the fluff in this time - enjoy .

Main Changes
General clarifications and corrections throughout, and a full review of weapon stats and points in line with testing - 80% of the units have had something tweaked, so please recalculate your army lists before playing again. Also, please let me know if you spot any inconsistencies. I've tripled checked it all, but numbers do get boring after a while .
Changed the Anti-Tank rule - instead of exploding 5s it now works in the same way as Blast, just on the wound roll, and only against Vehicles. This is more in line with the rest of the rules, and allows better differentiation of unit roles within the lists, adding more thought to army selection. Anti-tank units are now less useful against infantry, so you'll need to take more of a mix of weapons. In line with this change, a lot of weapon stats have been revised as mentioned above.
Force Selection - this whole section has now been added, using the High Value Assets idea from the other thread along with a few extra rules. Still keeps it simple, but should restrict the unbeatable all-tank lists. We theorised about a few examples, and found that the VP penalty made the game pretty much unwinnable if you took such a skewed list. However, as always, please look out for anything I've missed.

Other
Added in what I think are now the last missing units - Ten'ur Go, the Asterian special character, and the missing weapon options for some of the vehicles.
Tweaked Black Talons to better differentiate their role compared to Sky Razors.
Tanks can no longer react to a change when marked as activated.
Clarified section on terrain types to make it clearer how to deal with obstacles such as small walls.
Added symbols to certain Orders to make it clearer as to when they can and can't be given.
Limited the number of VPs available for a few of the Secondary Objectives.
Simplified the Courage Under Fire Order.
Added Hit and Run Order.

Im not up on my warpath lore but aren't the forgefathers supposed to be nearly as advanced in weaponry as the enforcers? I don't know, but to me that tank looks like something you would see on a ww1 battlefield.

Actually, theyre supposed to be *more* advanced... the enforcers get their peacekeeper armour from them...

Exactly!

How do they compare in the rules/stats?

If we go with aesthetics I'd love something more compact. That turret sits too high for my taste. Tho this is nothing new for forgefathers vehicles and guns are what killed that army for me and turned me into an enforcer minion.

I like the look of the Strider & for £12.49 looks like a steal.
The Brokkrs look very much like Hasslefree's Grymn though (http://www.hfminis.co.uk/shop?category=sci%252dfi-%26%0D%0Aweird-war~grymn-light-infantry)

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

I won't cry about the tunnel runners changing material if they are actually as sharp as the painted ones

(wonder if they're resin masters/prints or the real deal)

good to know we can do head swaps with the pilot

and the interceptor looks good (it's coming de-sprued like the jet bike, but that was done ok on mine so hopefully this will be too)

Good on the tunnel runner, because that DUST plastic is infinitely more desirable than Mantic's shoddy metal castings
