Is the power gap in Warhammer truly that bad? I mean, I think about starting a fantasy army, but the only army I would start would be orcs, and it seems there's a general opinion that Orcs can't win (MAYBE gobbos can, if they take a pile of fanatics/doom divers/ect.)

But my thing is, if a 40k player can win games with fething Necrons and Grey Knights, why can't Warhammer players win a lot of games with Ogres and Orcs&Goblins?

So I have a challenge to you O&G/OK players, beat Chaos daemons. Figure it out. There must be a way.

Edit: And let the flamewar commence!

They can....it depends what the list is and who the general is, I've seen the Store Manager with his Ogres crush a Kairos Tzeentch daemons list at 2000 points.

Nice thing about O&G, they're getting new models in may, but not a new armybook. They're still competitive, I'm not wise with them however, but any army can win, it all depends how you play them and how good you are at making decisions (favor with the dice gods doesn't hurt either)

It's not that they *can't* win, it's just that it's an uphill battle. When played well, the top builds of Dark Elves and Demons are quite hard. Same as it goes for Necrons against top builds in 40K (or so I imagine).

On a delicate chain at her throat, she keeps it with her to this day.”

It's true, but I've seen a few necron lists getting in the top of certain local events.

All in all it seems like your right though. The orc army just seems like a lot of fun, there's tons of randomness in there...I'm just not sure if that randomness is worth it.

All armies can win, it depends much on the skill of the person playing said army. But some armies have a tougher times as said before in this tread.

I think there is somewhat of a power gap, although the skills of the player do have alot to figure in on it. Some of the newer books are better designed towards powergaming than the older ones - there is a reason that Demons, Dark Elves and others are consistently finishing in the top percentages of tournaments everywhere. On the flip side, Orcs&Goblins and Ogres consistently finish in the lower tiers.
It really comes down to what the player is hoping to accomplish - you can go for the powergaming aspect or go for the fluff/having fun style.

And as a Dark Elf general I have to admit, even a 'fluffy' Dark Elf army can be extremely dangerous if used well.

Case in point: Executioners are probably our worst unit. T3 and 5+ AS on a unit with Great Weapons has severe issues in continuing combats. On the other hand, they have S4 (S6 with Great Weapons), Killing Blow, and Hatred to boot! So on the charge they can be absolutely devastating.

And that's our worst unit!
