I am a WH40K player, currently playing Space Wolves. I am coming up to around 3000 points in SW, so am looking for something new. Naturally, i'm turning to a new system. Based on the fact that I enjoy the combat focus of the SW, and the un-squishiness of them, what should I play? I narrowed it to something like Beastmen, Dark Elves, Lizardmen, or one of the chaos. But then, I know nothing, so feel free to suggest something other than those four.

I think he meant sturdy.
I agree with dwarfs to an extent. I started with fantasy dwarfs and when I thought about 40k, I felt a natural draw to SW. There must be something about the dwarfs combat ability, loyality, and toughness that I saw in SW.
But out of the armies you listed, I think lizardmen and WoC can be tough combat armies.

At first I did'nt consider dwarves because of the movement speed. Is there any way this can be countered? Otherwise yes, dwarves are probably a good idea. I have a friend who's starting Fantasy, and has chosen WoC, so i'm staying away from them.

There are some runic items that allow dwarfs to make a movement before the game even starts, or could make an enemy charge you. The anvil also has a power that allows you to have a unit or d3 units make an extra move. Oathstones are useful for negating flank and rear charges, but your unit is then stuck in that spot for the rest of the game. That is all I can think of for now. Take a look at some of Red_Zeke's battle reports and you may see some of those tactics.

I'm going to pretend I know what that means, but it sounds good. Dwarves definitley been considered. Another question, firstly are they very mainstream (like SM in 40K) and are they high points, but hard to kill like Necrons, or throw them into battle and hope that some of them survive, but it dosn't really matter because you have 200 like the Orks?

I wouldn't call them mainstream like SM. Sorry, I don't know anything about necrons, but dwarfs have a lot of lasting power. They have a 4 weapon skill, 4 toughness, a pretty good armor save, and their lowest leadership is a 9, so chances are they will be around for the whole fight. They are cheap enough to get decent blocks, but not so cheap as to have a hoard army. Dwarfs don't have any magic, but have the best war machines in the game. They also have runic items that let you customize your characters a little more than other armies.
The other choice I would suggest is Lizardmen. They have all the same advantages as the dwarfs, but have better movement, not a whole lot of shooting, but pretty good magic. You also get to run around with dinosaurs.

I think you tend to see Dwarfs more at club level than in tournaments. You may find them quite frustrating to play if you want to run combat style, and many play them as a stand still and shoot kind of army which some folks don't like.
Warriors are combat/magic heavy, lizards' competitive builds tend towards monsters, magic and skirmishers. Dark Elves are nasty but not at all durable.
If you want something durable and fighty, I'd probably recommend Warriors of Chaos. The only other thing to factor in is where and when you expect to play (i.e. against a few friends vs. GTs).

Well, I thought they looked cool, and after looking through the army book found some pretty cool un-squishy stuff, like the blood knights. Also it has a character called Zacharias, which happens to be my real name. You are right, zombies are ultra squishy, but I decided not to use them, and use skeletons. Though they're not much better.

Doesn't matter how squishy you are if you can be raised up faster than you go down... Have fun with them!

Thanks! The raise 5 D6 Zombies spell definitley makes this a horde army that can come back faster than they can be killed!

I say for you Lizardmen are nice. But I also think that Warriors of Chaos are pretty nice.
Dwarves are a good army, but the biggest thing is they lack a robust movement phase. Now they make up for it with great toughness, leadership, and combat prowess. BUT, you may get bored of the tactics involved with Dwarves.
I still stick by Lizardmen.
