D'you ever get that feeling, when you're in the middle of an army to just start buying models from another race? Happens to be all the time :/ - it just leaves me with two small forces I can't do squat with. Well, OK, technically I can but w/e. ATM I'm just trying to give my Crimson Fists some TLC and buy some more models that I can paint to a decent standard (more on that in my WIP topic in the P&M WIP section... or whatevs...) and get a more tourny reasonable army (i.e. eventually convert some tactical squads to sternguard with combi weapons and SM nicknacks.. I think we'd be looking £50 for 10 guys :/). Anyway, the real question is, how do you guys resist this kinda urge? I can't stay on track for one minute lol. I've got my marines (the largest of everything I have... if I added up all my models I never use I'd have about 5500pts or more...), got some Wolves, some nids somewhere, a few Tau, a bunch of IG, even some Orks and Chaos... but I was given the Chaos by someone who doesn't play anymore :/ So yeah, any idea's would be good!

I let the urge take me. Eventually after buying small amounts of models from other races, i end up with 2000 + points worth of other races and about 500 of my main choice. So i get to play everything iexcept the army I wanna play :(

lol man that's unlucky.

If I usually get the urge to buy/start/begin anything, usually because of shiny new kits/codex releases/what-have-you, I usually wait a couple months, and if I still feel like I really want it, then I go and buy it, knowing that Im not just attracted to the 'oooh shiny', or the novelty of the idea. Two examples of this include my Ork army, my first 40k army, in which after painting a horde of boys I feel disenchanted and wanted to start something like, like Eldar or Tau. But after competing in a small tournament amongst my friends, and whomping some (and losing to some), I feel refreshed about my orks and have an urge to expand on them.

Another is Space Wolves. It's always been my favourite Chapter, back when I was a kid and didnt even play 40k, but I was put off by the slightly out-dated Codex. With the new update, and the subsequent releases, I loved them, but I decided to wait for it all to die down so that a) I dont look like a bandwagoner, b) wanted to make sure I actually really did like the new Wolves, and c) wait til other people come up with some neat tactics and paintjobs/conversion works and voila, I own the Space Wolves codex and is currently my second army, after my orks. With the new Blood Angels codex around the corner, and hearing all the crazy rumours and neat stuff they get, I feel almost tempted, but once again, Im gonna wait it out and see if I actually would want to collect them (cause I never was a fan of the Blood angels chapter, though their Primarch's badass). I'd probably pick up one of the new kits though, just as a hobby project.

My new plan is to fall to my every whim, but force my self to stay with it till 500-750 points, so then i will have lots of mini army's and if i like an army enough i will continue them.

After spending a lot in a very short time on a CSM army I've gotten a little bored with painting the same colour scheme over and over, so I plan on starting a much slower Tyranid force too. I'll work on both side by side. I found this when I played before too, especially with marine armies. Painting the same panels the same way over and over gets a little tedious, so I like to have a second force too.

I suffer the urge to do a cool painting and conversion army, only one of which I could legitamently tie to my main (I have DE, I want to do kroot and I have full fluff reasons why they'd work well together that are more than 'the DE pay them'. Also have occasional urges to do a WFB lizardmen army and a flexible Alpha Legion that can be run as loyalists or chaos as the whim takes me)

I resist by reminding myself of all the painting and converting I have to do for my main army and how I get these urges when I'm board of, say, sculpting 2 dozen feet. And wondering why I thought this was a good idea in the first place.

The multiple armys is why I miss the old ally rules. You could field 25% (I think) of your points from an allied army. But the way to do it under the current rules is to take 2 force org charts with one per army and have the opponent do the same with either one codex or two. I fell prey to the problem because when I started IG was all metal and I couldn't afford to do a decent guard list. My current method of slowing down the multiple army problem is to look at the amount I have painted vs the amount I don't and to be annoyed when I field unpainted models. So far it's working, but we'll see for how long.

DO YOU HEAR THE VOICES TOO?!

As if on cue, you hear two people singing from the stairwell, and the door is opened and a pair of very smelly, very dirty guardsmen stumble in, completely drunk, and covered in vomit, and immediately collapse unconsious on the porch. You drag them to their beds, realising that they will not be waking up for some time.

I mainly remind myself of how much I love my bank account, and also how little space I have to put everything. That usually curbs any urges I have to buy other things.

I spent upwards of $1000 in 3 months on my marines and can't bring myself to buy a new army. So I'll just buy the MEQ 'dexs do I don't need to get new models.
