Okay. Bear with me, first time writing up rules for...well, anything. It's designed as a "for fun and background" for my Successor Chapter I'm working on.

With that caveat out of the way, here we go:

Redemptor Squad 290 points

5 model squad (4 Brother-Redemptors led by a Redemptor Sergeant.)

Equipment: Terminator Armour, Shard of Caliban and Bulwark of Retribution.
Upgrades: Knight-Redemptor at +50 points.

Background: The Redemptors are, as it stands, exclusively employed by the Order of the Redeeming Blades. The Redemptors came about during the campaign on Cadia to bring to heel the warband of Arkanos the Fellblooded and Arkanos' methods of employing Daemons and Berzerkers inside of the defensive perimeters of the 82nd Special Tasks Group and its firebases--before striking with his personal cadre of leftover Fallen at the most critical targets within the perimeter.

The common method of the Order deploying their Terminators just did not end up working as well as it should have, due to the cramped confines of the defensive perimeters and the fact that normal teleportation protocols ended up with the Assault Terminator squads being sent where the combat was already over, or into such close quarters that their Thunder Hammers and Storm Shields were a liability rather than an asset.

Through careful refinement and fine-tuning of the teleporters secreted within their orbiting vessels, and the ingeniuity of one of the Order's Knight-Captains named Mikael, a plan slowly began to formulate in preparation for Arkanos' next assault. While the Order's artificers turned their attentions towards modifying the Storm Shields of Assault Terminator squads into what they dubbed "Bulwarks of Retribution", by modifying the energy output of the shields to such that they give off a severe burst of energy when struck by even a glancing blow. To counter the ineffectiveness of the Thunder Hammers, the Order's warsmiths devised something brilliant to gift the Assault Terminators with. Taking ore refined from the very heart of ruined Caliban, the warsmiths crafted masterfully balanced blades of solid adamantine etched with platinum wards and runes of the Imperium. Dubbing their works "Shards of Caliban", the twenty five blades were gifted to the five Terminator Assault Squads that the Order's First Company boasted. Knight-Captain Mikael then renamed the units from the customary "Paladin" title of the Assault Squads to the Redemptor title they currently boast.

Not long after, the call for aid from a Special Tasks Group firebase was received. Mikael and his Redemptor squads formed up and prepared for the STG's Kasrkin units to activate their teleport beacons when Arkanos himself entered the fray. Upon his and his warband's arrival, the Kasrkin immediately fired up the beacons and the air was filled with a coruscation of energy followed by the thunderclap of displaced air as the Redemptors entered the fray. Setting to their work, the Redemptors tore through Arkanos' warband and the Knight-Captain cast the Fellblooded himself down upon the field. Seeing their champion defeated, the warband and its horde of followers fled only to be cut down by the drop podded Battle-Brothers of the Order and the remnants of the STG and its Sentinel units.

Since that successful campaign, the Order has made a point to train their Scout and Tactical units in the specific timing of the teleport beacon activations, and when the Order on occasion works with the STG they make it a point to ensure that the proper protocol and tactics are still remembered.

Notes:
Shard of Caliban: The Shards of Caliban are masterfully crafted Power Swords, balanced to deliver incredible damage with each blow. As a result, the wielders strike as +1S than normal and are allowed a reroll as per standard Master-Crafted weapons.

Bulwark of Retribution: The Bulwarks of Retribution are specially modified Storm Shields which the Redemptor units employ to great effect when they teleport directly into the fray. The shields allow for the wielders to effectively counterattack while at the same time blocking incoming attacks. The modifications to the field, however, have compromised the field generators they employ resulting in an Invulnerable Save in close combat being as 5+ rather than the standard 4+. However, this is offset by the fact that whenever the Redemptors are struck by a successful hit in close combat, they may force the attacker to take a single S3 AP- hit.

Knight-Exemplar: The Redemptors are at times led by what the Order refers to as a "Knight-Exemplar". The Knight-Exemplars are standard Terminator Sergeants who have been trained or gifted with a personality that exudes faith and vengeance to the Order. Knight-Exemplars confer the Litanies of Hate and Honour of the Chapter special rules upon the squads they lead.

Interventors: The specialized teleportation tactics and alterations to the teleporters themselves developed by the Order's Redemptors allow for the Redemptors to be teleported directly into the fray. Due to the fact that the Order either employs the Redemptors explicitly in this role, or as shock assault units carried in Land Raiders, the Redemptors may only Deep Strike using a friendly squad engaged in close combat as its centering point. Standard Deep Strike rules apply, but if the Redemptors would land on a friendly unit rather than terrain or an enemy unit, then the friendly unit may be moved back and the Redemptors may take their place in the combat they're currently engaged in.

If no units matching this set of circumstances are available, then the Redemptors may be deployed as normal Troops on foot or held in reserve until the circumstances are met.

Bog standard Terminator stats.

The point wasn't to make some kind of uber-souped up unit, but an alternative unit to Thunder Hammer/Storm Shield Terminators for friendly games.

the problem is that Terminator armor has a 5++ save standard so the shields are pointless beyond giving a Str3 hit each time a hit is rendered.

Another thing is that as of now the Shards aren't power weapons so they are actually not very scary.

Yeah, that came up when I was discussing it with someone else too. Chalk it up to inexperience in writing homebrew units on my part.

I'd forgotten to write in that the Shards are, in fact, Master-Crafted Power Weapons and to do something actually useful with the Bulwarks.

Suggestions on how to make the Bulwarks more useful?

well if you were a vanilla marine chapter it would be an easy solution, but since you are a dark angles successor (or use the same rules) you still have the old 4++ in close combat storm shields. if you were normal marines i would say a 4++ invuln would represent a smaller Storm shield, but since you start at that there is not much to do

a fix for the bulwarks could be. They give a 4+ invuln and count as an additional Close combat weapon. this represents the backlash as an additional weapon not an extra attack that will not do alot. Str3 is practically useless against enemies that you would be sending termies at. it could also represent sharpened edges on the shields.

Well see, the thing is the Bulwarks aren't going to be a smaller(model wise or fluff wise) storm shield. It's going to be either the standard size or the size of Hector Rex's.
