I have always wanted to write a single backstory for all my armys. and at the center of this story is the rogue trader Theadore Holt. along with ordos xenos inquisitor Hax and his daughter Clarissa. but every hero needs a weakness, inquisitor Hax prefers to work hands off and Clarissa is trigger happy. because theadore is the hero of the story he needs a major weakness, but the best heros are able to transform their weakness into a strength. but at the same time a hero needs a destiny that will be revealed early in the story. now the eldars skill at prophecy as well as the xenophobia of the imperium provided the perfect Idea, I'll make him half eldar. but I'm not sure if humans and eldar can breed and create viable offspring. I mean if an eldar and a human can interbreed will the offspring be able to reproduce or will they be like a liger or a mule? so is it possible for a human and an eldar to produce an viable child?

Yes, there has been a mention in the fluff somewhere, iirc. Not that anyone ever really cross bred, but that it would be possible. At least, I seem to recall so, unless it's been retconned.

There are some mentions of such in the fluff, so yeah (If you feel real grim dark you could say that his mother was raped by Dark Eldar).

Would be pretty ironic (in a good way) if he was unknowingly a half-breed who hates Xenos with extreme fervor.

Could be possible but very unlikley as the eldar tend to be very aloof & I doubt the DE would allow a human to live long enough to give birth.

Also he'd have to avoid the inquisition at all costs as his birth itself, according to our beloved commissar Fuklaw is "EXTRA Heretical" (google him if you don't know)

Right so if eldar and humans can cross breed could another race like tau as i am not sure how these frog things mate

now the way I saw it theadores mother was the eldar seer. and inquisitor Hax is theadores fathers best friend, so hes been covering up the fact that theadore is half eldar. furthermore theadore does not even know he is half eldar, he was told by his father that his mother died in childbirth. in reality she was called back to her craftworld when the kabal of the twisted heart killed a good portion of her family. he is somewhat accepted by the eldar side of his family because of a prophecy made by his mother that he would lead to the destruction of the kabal of the twisted heart.

There was a thread that discussed this in detail and some of the facts dug up were.


Eldar require multiple "visits" to concieve. Only a portion of the required genes are implanted at once. this means an eldar can have multiple male parents. this does allows for genetic diversity, but this coupled with the fact a female only ovulates every few years means the rate of reproduction is slow.

The only way an eldar/human hybrid could possably happen is with a male human and female eldar. This assumes that the eldar chromosomes are compatable, in some earth species it is the female who has the Y chromosome that determines the sex of the offspring(birds, some reptiles) if eldar are this way a human/eldar cross would only happen 50% of the time and other times the result would be a mutant

Also would an eldar even concider reproducing with a dirty "mon'keigh". They concider humans mere animals, prey, and vermin to their galaxy.

Well as I see it, it once existed, and never has been adressed or retconned, so must still be official.

Also, having (fertile) offspring means that Eldar and Humans are technically the same spieces. Thanks alot, Old Ones!

Xenology is a more recent source and retcons. It pretty bluntly lays out the ways in which eldar and humans are biologically different. Details about the bone and muscle structure, the layout of the internal organs etc.

While the 'multiple conceptions' issue has been addressed above, I think this quote from it is further proof it is not possible for them to breed:

Quintuple vs binary helix and twenty bases vs four? Yeah, no way in hell are eldar and humans compatible.

Note, not being able to breed has no impact on whether they can have sex, that's more a simple plumbing matter.

It supposedly has happened in some Black Libary books I've read so I say go for it.

So if it is possible, what would a human eldar hybrid look like? of course he would have somewhat pointy ears, but seeing as he lived in imperial society most of his life he probably had some kind of plastic surgery to make his ears look human. but are there any other less noticeable eldar traits? also I'm thinking of making theadore very lucky, so lucky that inquisitor Hax suspects that he is somewhere between lambda and kappa on the assignment scale after theadore played a game of cards with the inquisitor.

Several decades ago it was possible but since then Games Workshop have quite rightly moved away from interspecies breeding and it is no longer part of the background so to answer your question the answer is no.

Realisitically, saying that a human and an eldar could breed would be like saying a human and a platypus could breed; it is not possible. Really, human/alien sexual intercourse would be the same as bestiality and within the Imperium I would imagine such a disgusting person would be immolated on the spot, and rightly so

I'm just wondering, would this cause less of a fuss if I tried the same idea with WHFB instead of WH40K? because I was on the fence between 40K and fantasy, mostly because my friends prefer fantasy. so I'm willing to rewrite this as a fantasy story.
